Can we talk about two of the worst characters in this entire series?
Mercury doesn't have a semblance, at least not anymore. His semblance was focused solely into his legs due to the training from hell he received from his abusive father. He wanted it to be something he could use to finally escape from the man. When he did get it, his father cut off both his legs so that he could never use his semblance as a way to teach Mercury that superpowers based on your Soul is weak and too hax in the world of Hunters.
My bet is that his semblance was going to be Superspeed a la the Flash

If anyone was within a light year of Flash power they’d be unstoppable.
That's why the bastard did it immediately when Merc's semblance triggered. It's fucked up because at first you think the guy had the ability to just take away semblances but no, bastard did the more horrifying thing and destroyed his son the moment when he got what essentially is a person's inner strength on meth just to prove a point that makes no fucking sense in the first place.
Flash went through the same thing Merc did
A shame then that Mercury couldn't get his legs back like the Flash did.
