The get the ball fall rolling, I'm gonna start my rant off about green bitch.
Her semblance allows her to create illusions and hallucinations.
As far as I've observed, she can use it indefinately and even on large groups of people. It has no cooldown and no limitations, meaning it can be used on literally anyone no matter how high their aura level.
She used this power to fool an entire stadium filled with thousands of people into thinking Yang broke Mercury's leg.
She could quite literally fool the entire cast into killing each other and it would work since they arent very smart.
If the writers weren't idiots, they would have killed her off sooner or at least made her not so fucking broken.
Why she isnt considered one of the biggest threats in the show is fucking retarded.

He just kicks things. With his boots. And he has prosthetic legs. That's about it. I dont remember what his semblance is or if it was ever even explained.
But somehow this gives him an edge over other characters and puts him within the same tier as Yang and Pryhha.

Few things Mercury doesn't have a semblance its all skill. Also Emerald can barely influence 2 people. Anymore and she passes out.
Her comfortable limit is two, aura protects the body, she fooled Yang into attracting Merc not the audience. At least pay attention to the show.

it's been almost half a decade since I saw this shit and I'm currently re-watching the entire series so my memory of it is pretty foggy.
Now that you mention it she has used it on more than two people at once before and yeah she was pretty exhausted almost immediately afterwards so guess you're right.

While the writing and animation has gotten marginally better, the fu king characters and animation have taken a huge nosedive in quality.
Take the fight between Cinder and the blonde lady with glasses in Episode 1. That was great and was truly a battle between spellcasters. Monty may have had the writing skills of a 13 year old web but he voul corrgraph some genuinely cool fight scenes.

She can't do it to large groups of people without getting a migraine or possibly giving herself a stroke. Last time I recalled her using that power on large groups she literally passed out. Otherwise she has to tunnel-vision on someone and maintain concentration to keep the illusions going. So really all you have to do to kill her/stop her is bait her into using it while having someone else wait out of her line of sight to gank her.
Mercury doesn't have one, because his dad is a dick apparently who had the ability to steal other people's powers, how that man is dead is beyond me. So he had to train and make due without one. He still has aura which apparently is enough to do some bullshit.

Well no.
For one, she can use it on one person without limitations. Two gives her headaches and makes it hard to maintain. Trying it on 5 knocked her out after only a few seconds and she needed to have a mental breakdown just to accomplish this.
Second they're imperfect, and don't react to the physical world the way an actual object would (ie dust blowing through the illusion girl without touching her).
Third they don't work nearly as well once you know she can do it, and she exposed her abilities to all the good guys so they're wary of it.

He was a drunk so Mercury waited till he'd drunk himself unconsious for the day then set the house ablaze and killed a drunken man on fire. Who already took his semblence so that power wouldn't work on it.
It didn't sound like he had much beyond taking Semblences and having some decent assassin skills. Based on his opinion of semblences being a crutch people rely on to make them weak he mostly targeted hunters who had strong semblences and relied on them for the most part, who fell apart when he stole them.

I'd argue that she wasn't all that bad 1-4 but her reverting back to her 1-3 personality the moment she got her voice back is terrible. Especially when they had scenes like her being put off by Tyrian going crazy.

Cinder should die at the end of vol 5. She could pass her Maiden powers to Mercury and that way Mercury become relevant for the plot and had a reason for mourning Cinder (she thought on me before dying) while learning to use her powers off-camera during vol 6. Way better than just standing there. Probably Cinder is the Ponyhead of RWBY, the writers love her.

Emerald's power requires preemptive research and intense concentration if she wants to do anything other than project her own inner fears and Mercury's backstory of his father taking his semblance so he wouldn't come to rely on it when fighting but killing him before getting it back is one of the more interesting backstories.

Mercury doesn't have a semblance, at least not anymore. His semblance was focused solely into his legs due to the training from hell he received from his abusive father. He wanted it to be something he could use to finally escape from the man. When he did get it, his father cut off both his legs so that he could never use his semblance as a way to teach Mercury that superpowers based on your Soul is weak and too hax in the world of Hunters.
My bet is that his semblance was going to be Superspeed a la the Flash
