Looking over my collection after skimming Identity Crisis made me realise that for how often the tied up and captured heroine was used as fetish fuel, for all the edgy takes from Ultimate Marvel to the Vertigo DC and even shit like The Boys, very few heroines have had to deal with being sexually assault and it's rarely been used as fetish fuel.
The closest example played straight that comes to mind is Sue Dibny.
>The closest example played straight that comes to mind is Sue Dibny. Wasn’t it implied she was sodomized later for some reason?
Ryan Wood
Considering the amount that get killed to give their male partner/husband some motivation I think we can be thankful for having dodged that bullet
Nathan Ward
>This was calling the male narrative out. My point was to explore and comment on how female characters, their kind of emotional lives aren’t represented… What if, in fact, she went willingly? What if she just cheated on Hawkeye? What if this ridiculous story, of this grown woman being kidnapped and drugged and held for months, is just a story that a jilted lover tells himself?
>Sue gets killed >Gets a rape retconned into her past the next issue BEST OF BOTH WORLDS!
Rape is honestly a pretty cheap means of creating drama in a story, so it's used pretty often in comics. I'd assume the most prevalent time would be the 90s to early 2000s. I know nearly ever Image hero was saving women from clear gang rape attempts in the early books.
Dylan White
Honestly, that WOULD make more sense than the original stupid story if Cain had addressed THIS moment at all. It's... kind of important to establish if Bobbi let her rapist fall to his death or simply disposed of her lover when she was done with him.
more or less cheaper than winding up in the fridge?
Owen Smith
His life was porn.
Well, agreed to a degree, but it is also something that makes sense as a risk when you are putting on body-paint tight costumes and confronting criminals and rapists. There is also the fetish factor that near misses can be tittilating.
It was such a stupid retcon to make, but it was so pointless considering it was 30 years ago, concerned a character no one really cared about and had been effectively ignored since
Adam Scott
You know honestly? Grant Morrison has a lot of perverse superhero shit. Seven soldiers had a whole subplot about it.
Henry Phillips
Really wish that heart attack killed him,.
Sebastian Turner
Rape is the easiest plot device there is, it's boring.
Cameron Morales
The best part is it's not just part of her life, it's tied into her origin >I trained so I could kill my rapist! >Then he died in an accident >So I used my training to... STEAL JEWELS! Not to bring justice to other rape victims... I just realized I liked stuff!
Depends. Even male characters get raped so they can be given a kid for drama purposes. Cape characters dealing with rape is handled about as well as they deal with being killed... they mention it from time to time, but it's not really important unless the writer wants to make it important that month.
Eli Morales
I hope Kevin Smith never gets to revisit that considering he'll no doubt take the opportunity to tell us all about how Felicia uncontrollably pissed and shat herself in the aftermath of her attack.
>But her powers allow her to magic it away, so her shit smells of strawberries and her piss tastes of honey! He's a pretty silly guy.
Asher Russell
Casual here, what the fuck is this?
Dylan Jenkins
This is what happens when you turn your continuity into fan fiction with an agenda. Instead of new stories, we get people that shouldn't be writing comic books in the first place re-writing old stories into propaganda. No wonder Marvel and DC cannot sell 100,000 copies of anything during the biggest explosion of superhero popularity ever.
Wait, wat? I have that on my shelf and I don't recall much if any rape. I remember Zatanna and her daddy getting a little too familiar verbally while he is possessed, but maybe that distracted me.
Hunter Gray
Nightwing got raped. Batman's night with Talia got retconned so she had drugged him, making it rape.
Carson Cox
tl;dr Mockingbird was sexually assaulted by Phantom Rider, who she later fought and didn't outright kill, but let fall to his death after she defeated him. This caused tension in her marriage to Hawkeye (who's a strict believer in the no-kill rule), ultimately leading to their relationship falling apart.
This was untouched for 30 odd years and had largely been forgotten when pic-related decides to drag it back up again for some reason and retcon it as Mockingbird having an affair, because no strong woman who's comfortable in her own skin can be a victim apparently. Of course this actually just paints her in a worse light considering by virtue of her retcon, she flat out murdered the guy she cheated on her husband with to cover it up.
What if they had retconned this to being consensual?
Jack Brooks
Yeah, Nightwing gettign raped is almost 'iconic' (if in a bad way) at this point, Batman himself being date raped to produce Damien, and you have the scene from Invincible which is more gratuitious than any male-to-female rape scene will ever be allowed to be in mainline comics.
starlight got raped by the homelander in the boys by garth ennis. i heard theyre doing a tv series and that scene will be heavily downplayed
Jaxon Ross
Honestly, all you're doing is whining about culture war bullshit, and that proves you don't actually know enough about storytelling to even keep up with a real discussion. You're a lot more of the problem then you'll ever be part of the solution, because you don't actually understand the real underlying problems. You just regurgitate empty buzzwords.
Honestly, if you researched wrestling, it would help you get a better grasp of how storytelling like this needs to be handled.
Angel Young
Bulleteer? It's got that whole deal with her husband being addicted to superhero porn and that a superhero porn star was drugged up and forced to fight death battles in the nude. With Zatanna you even had a superhero talking about being gang raped by demons.
Made for it, groomed for it, and probably liked it.
Ian Taylor
I would actually pay to read that. Sue sending Dr Light a text message saying "Come on over, baby. They're gone" and they get so into it that they lose track of time, and when the Justice League comes back to the satellite, she pretends Light was raping her. And the final twist is that Sue's baby was actually Light's, because she couldn't stay off his dick even after the lobotomy. Sue was trying to get an abortion but she know Elastic Cuck would find out, so she got Jean Loring to micro-fry the baby, but she botched it and she ended up killing Sue.
Identity Crisis > Cuck Crisis. Fuck, that would be awesome.
Jaxson Cooper
That was hot.
Jason Rodriguez
Easy there, cowboy. I think your fedora is too tight around your head. Why don't you go back to trying to impress fat chicks at cons? How's your Watchmen-only-better shitty comic going?
>Easy there, cowboy. See, you couldn't even take a constructive comment and now you're getting defensive. Learn basic storytelling so you understand what is actually going on.
Lincoln Torres
What if a male hero was raped by a male villain? Could you take him seriously after that? I know I couldn't.
Snyder wanted Batman to be raped in prison... so just assume that's canon for Affleck Batman.
Logan Morris
Rogue got raped by henchmen, and then curled in the fetal position in the corner of a room.
Hunter Howard
I think they went out of their way to establish she was "only" molested a bit. Going from no touching to that was probably more than enough to make her mentally retreat for a bit.
When Gabby got her grubby hands on her. She'll never recover from that dialogue.
Adam Hall
It's mentioned in one of the Young Avengers specials as being what motivated her to start training in self defense. They don't explicitly call it rape but it's heavily implied.
Honestly if the story was originally written this way, I would have been fine with it. It's a good plot twist. But retconning it in 30 years later is just bullshit
Brody Davis
That's Sharon VENTURA, user. Better known as She-Thing.
Showing once again she is probably the worst-shafted character at Marvel.
Charles Johnson
>worst-shafted Maybe literally. That looks like a lot of henches.
Did Pixie form the X-Men ever got raped? I recall seeing a page of her being raped by mutant haters or something but I don't know if it's a official comic. I think she's cute and I'd be upset if she was
Starfire had it pretty rough in post-crisis. They seem to have given her a more simple warrior-woman fleeing warriors who just want to kill her recently though.
Dubs of truth check'd. Someone has to stop the Benis.
Cooper Rodriguez
Is that mother fucking Havik ?
Luke Morgan
Batman was raped
Brandon Stewart
Jesus , how horrifying
William Bailey
HOW? The moment a motherfucker tries to touch her or put a dick, he gets knocked the fuck out. How did they do it, wear latex gloves, latex suits and had quadruple condoms?
Owen Torres
Starlight from the Boys
Parker Martin
It’s the opening of the storyline, the rape scene is a flashback revealing that Zatanna mindwiped Batman’s mind so he would tattle that she lobotomized Light
Thomas Rivera
Must have been one of the multiple times she has lost her powers.
She was definitely abused by him and Homelander is a psychotic piece of shit even if he wasn't as bad as he thought he was, but saying that she was outright raped is debatable even in the context of the series. I felt bad for her but I also sympathized with Hughie's outrage towards her, especially when you compare it with the other rapes and murders that happen.
>that was just Greg Land. I don't know what that means, but I saw that panel. She was beat really bad but not raped
Carson Johnson
Teenage Gamora got gangraped when she went to a seedy planet unsupervised and Thanos had to save her.
Jackson Lopez
aquaman was raped by siren the flash was sexually assaulted by the cheetah green arrow was raped by shado why does DC have so many female rapists running around
