Why was it so bland and forgettable?
Why was it so bland and forgettable?
But you clearly didn't forget it; you made a thread with a nice big pic and everything.
Good on you user. Good on you!
Because we're reaching comics that have less of a defined tone and atmosphere.
I actually really liked Ant-Man and the Wasp.
Ghost was cute and that's all i really remember about the movie
the villain wasn't really a villain and it was basically an extension of ant-man 1 and a setup for endgame.
that said, it wasn't bad, at all. if you view the MCU as a show you could say this was a filler ep. or at least setup. we all knew Evangeline was gonna be the wasp, so the biggest point of this movie is reuniting Hank with his wife and getting Scott in the quantum realm.
Ghost was a good character
Because the writers have the mentality of "lol Ant Man! How lame!" when they write the character.
Like for fucks sake, there is so much squandered potential with this franchise.
I am SO FUCKING TIRED of seeing people bemoaning the mediocrity of things I HAVE NOT EVEN HAD A CHANCE TO SEE.
Most of the conflict was being pushed by a sleazy salesman who had nothing to do with the plot.
Too much showing off how incapable Scott was compared to Hope, who is a very flat character now that she doesn't hate her dad anymore.
It was also poorly edited and overall just not very exciting.
>Why was it so bland and forgettable?
Describes 95% of MCU movies
its been out for a long time retard. either watch it or stop complaining. you're insufferable. its even on Netflix shit for brains.
>unironically has Netflix
Honestly this.
OP sounds like a big ol' faggot.
It was an okay movie with a low key plot that is not amazingly interesting, two months after the culmination of all things MCU with it's fuckhuge plot.
See i would equate it to one of those one off episodes of Buffy, like the silence episode.
I wonder when we are getting a anthology superhero movie.
The whole movie is 85-90% running around San Francisco in a hurry through traffic and crowds. The villain turned out to not really be much of a villain. And the plot sort of fizzled out among wacky goofy mafia guy and dumb ex con friends hijinks.
It was not a terrible movie, but far from an over the top super action superhero movie. There was no major third act fight with a supervllain or major victory after it was all over.
Tried too hard to be exactly like the first movie. they just kept repeatting shit that wasn't funny enough to merit repeating, like that Michael Pena recap scene. Also way too much dumb hand waving about subatomic bullshit to magic their way out of problems.
But all in all it was still a pretty decent movie. Like people have mentioned, Ghost is a good character and a cute. CUTE. Her powers also foiled perfectly against the others, for some pretty great action sequences. I also personally enjoyed the little touches like how everything in the world had a slightly toy like quality.
at least Michael Peña was fun
Not enough of grouchy Punished Hank getting constantly shat on by everyone, and Evangeline didnt have her bobcut
Its one of the best MCU movies desu
It was fun. More memorable than Captain Marvel, at least.
More memorable than Shazam too
I think they lost sight of the fact they're making a movie about criminals trying to be heroes by acting outside the law rather than a superhero movie. What made the first one so good was it was a heist movie first and foremost
Shes definitely mommy
I loved it.
10th post best post
>Actors and Actresses confirmed to have leeway with their makeup crews.
>Women wear reduced makeup with each successive movie endeavor
>That look on the first date
>That look on the second date
Hell, I remember when one of my dates took off her lipstick during the date after we got comfortable
user, you're never seeing that bobcut again
Because it was a filler movie for Infinity War. The idea that it got as many good reviews as it did would be absurd if it was standalone.
It was an ok movie with some charming moments, the first Ant-Man was much better.
I don't think that in showed much of how incapable is Scott compared to Hope because he was really competent even with a malfunctioning suit, he even saves her a lot. At the end, the movie stills feels like Scott's show.
Zero stakes, the villain (who wasn't even a villain) didn't even show up until the second act, the crew was nowhere near as funny as the first movie, evangeline lilly wasn't as hot as she was in the first movie, need I continue.
Stagnation and Marvel still having flaws with their villians. Ghost doesn't look all that cool or threatening. This and Captain Marvel are like the Iron man 2 and Dark World of the new movies. Good ideas but suffers in execution and having to be support pillars for the next movies. Also quips have gotten boring and way more shallow. The first Ant Man had better set up comedy.
It's funny, the general public thinks Ants and the Wasp was a much better movie than the first, and Yea Forums treats the first like it's the Holy Grail.
I liked it
>It's funny, the general public thinks Ants and the Wasp was a much better movie than the first
No they don't. It has an A- cinemascore while the first one has an A. It's also lower rated on every audience review site. And it had shorter legs than the first one at the box office.
It boggles the mind that Marvel is so disinterested in having good villains. If after 12 years, you can count off memorable villains on one hand something has gone very wrong in the writers room.
They're both extremely lame. The best thing about either is the comedy and honestly, that shouldn't be a compliment.
They needed to come up with a more structured third act.
It's a mixed bag, it is more of the same but done worse. A lot of friends think the first one was better. Ant-Man 1 is top MCU to be honest.
>Evangeline didnt have her bobcut
i've said it once, i'll say it again: exquisite taste
I really like the first Ant Man. It had a good story and a good script. Pacing is good. My only issue is that the villain doesn't look cool and threatening and since they're in suits, It's not really engaging when they beat each other up. I sorta wished the "ant man suits" weren't full body armors because of it. You can't even see the damage like with Iron Man.
Ghost actually works really well as a character, but the movie needed a proper antagonist. IMHO Sonny Birch should have taken a darker turn or been revealed to be working for a dangerous big bad.
>My only issue is that the villain doesn't look cool and threatening
I disagree completely, user. Yellowjacket may be a weak villain in characterisation and depth but the redeeming quality for me is that his suit and design is pure sex.
I think this is more difference of taste because I love the full bodysuit theme they go with Ant-Man in general. If anything my only complain of the suits is for the them to stop trying show the face of the actor through the eye visor, it should be less transparent, it would look way better.
I understand but I still think it looks bad. The arms are too mechanical for my taste and the face isn't as memorable or intimidating as I would like. I actually thought the character was alright. Darren Cross was intimidating enough and he was Pym's "bad guy reflection" more than Lang's.
I think it comes down to the villain for a number of reasons.
1: Because Ghost can't shrink, you can't have as many creative or fun shrinky-dinky set-pieces like the Thomas the Tank Engine scene.
2: Villain isn't really a villain trope. She's slowly dying and too impatient to stop and talk out a solution. The entire climax scene could have been avoided entirely if she had just waited 5 minutes for the good guys to pull out Jan.
3: Pulling out Jan to magically cure Ghost was a bit of a cop-out ending.
So basically it's a very low-stakes movie that doesn't capitalise on fun set-pieces as much as the first film did.
Ghost should have been closer to the movie version. A creepy emaciated looking guy with perhaps a more serious agenda. Except then you can't really make it a comedy which is probably what the MCU Ant-Man films should aim for in my opinion. Like Ragnarok.
It's the marvel formula and it works
>Ghost should have been closer to the comic version
Is what I meant
>Ghost should have been closer to the movie version. A creepy emaciated looking guy with perhaps a more serious agenda
I did like the movie version but I would've loved to have seen a creepy, anti-corporatist/capitalist villain who was trying to bring the whole system down.
I feel like Marvel is too obsessed with comedy. They can make work without. Iron Man 1 worked well and the comedy on that film was more about Tony handling situations while finding his feet. It's not like the quips add anything in the new movies.
Ant Man can be serious. Lang is a smart guy. He's an engineer. I feels bad for when Marvel makes them look stupid. I noticed this but Marvel is relying too much on CGI, even when unnecessary. It mkes their films look unconvincing and shallow more than their early films.
I disagree, the only pure comedy movies are Guardians, Thor Ragnarok, and Ant-Man/Wasp. The biggest sellers are the more serious films like Civil War, Infinity War, Iron Man 3, etc..
Those serious movies still have quips. That's the only thing that annoys me. At worst, They take away from the gravity of the situation like it's constant reminder than nothing bad would happen or if it did, It would be undone soon.
Let's agree to disagree. I said weak compared to the best MCU villians, I do think he is far from the worst and that he has some neat things, like his father/son relationship with Pym.
>The best thing about either is the comedy and honestly, that shouldn't be a compliment.
Movies that go out of their way to be much more comedic than the average MCU film shouldn't take "the comedy is the best part" as a compliment? You fucking idiot.
i have never heard of this and refuse to believe it is real
Eh, I never felt that Lang is either dumb or incapable of being serious. The dude has a really good track record for being just an avarage man with some good skills.
You simple bitch. Any idiot can make a comedy, they didn't even fucking try to make the movie decent in any other respect.
it was a fun movie, that mexican guy was funny and that cartoony as fuck wacky races-like pursuit in the second half was unironically comedy kino
I enjoyed it more than Age of ultron, dr strange or capt marvel
Any idiot can make anything, you legitimate retard.
I keep seeing people say this about Ant-Man and Thor movies, I agree but I don't know why. I just never feel the need to see them and don't feel like I've missed out after watching.
Ghost was cool and so were the shrink-fu fights.
Thor 1 & 2 are really dull and only passable for the 5 minutes Thor and Loki share screentime. And Anthony Hopkins when he wants to act.
Kat Dennings wasn't allowed to show off her body of work which was a little disappointing. Natalie Portman just phones in her performances.
Don't call me a retard, you pheasant. It's a shit movie that's getting praised SOLELY because of the brand it's attached too.
Hope first action scene and Wasp and Pym traveling into the quantum realm were memorable along the cool credits with the figurines.
Also this
That's blatantly false because no one praises or even talks about Thor 2 despite the brand, same for the first Thor too sorta, and the Ant-Man movies have had the least connection to the rest of the MCU than any other movie except arguably Doctor Strange.
>Thor 1 & 2 are really dull
At least they treated themselves like Thor movies and not parodies like Ragnarok
>Kat Dennings wasn't allowed to show off her body of work which was a little disappointing
The real disappointment I'm sure comes from the realization that she has no talent outside of having huge tits.
>At least they treated themselves like Thor movies and not parodies like Ragnarok
Nah. Ragnarok is the only one that feels like a Thor movie. Kill yourself redditor.
I just didn't care for the goal (find/save Janet), or the suit malfunctions that only served to nerf Scott
Stop being mean to me right fucking now.
Eat a fucking chode dude. You have no taste.
Kat was pretty good in 2 Broke Girls when I watched it with my mom.
cute.
Well yeah that's the Marvel Method, true believer.
Because he is a solo hero that arrived late to the party and was sandwiched between two hero teams.
Cap and Tony are usually the main strength of the Avengers team, their movies are a must. Thor case is that he, apart from the Avengers that can't get a solo movie is the weakest link. One must watch Guardians to keep up with the cosmic side of things, everybody else either has an Infinity Stone or sells in name. Even then,I would argue that watching movies like Black Panther, Homecoming or Captain Marvel are necessary to understand the great scheme of things in the MCU. Ant-Man's big payoff is yet to occur in the next Avengers movie.
I do find funny that a hero that appears to be small in the great plan is one of the few that is going to see through the end, even being a pivotal part of it and that's good, Ant-Man deserves a good end.
>watching movies like Black Panther, Homecoming or Captain Marvel are necessary
are not*
I fucked up
Ragnarok does look closer but does it discards some of Thor's mythology like it's garbage. I can understand that it was a weak part of previous films but they usually tried to incorporate it and trying instead of outright trashing it. Asgard is also lacking in some flair with the Hela fight. Wariors 3 doesn't even get mentioned by Thor.
I'll argue that they nailed the Kirby stile, but make a parody of the classical epic feel of the Thor stories. You have Thor making quips while his friends get murder in gruesome ways, his entire kingdom burns in front of him and the movie use that as the set up of a joke.
They try to make the "he stood alone at the bridge gjallerbru" moment but it doesn't work because they make the character lame, what better indicator you need that the fact that they ruined one of the best moments in Thor comic history?
I could say the Ant Man movies are my favorite because it's the underdog
Yeah but the guy behind him was Norman Osborn
this whole movie felt like filler episode
