The plot in season 1 develops over the pilot, mid-season special and season finale, if you're thinking about skipping episodes please don't, there are a ton of character development moments and introductions in what may seem like just filler episodes, plus cute moments.

In exactly 3 episodes. 1 is filler, 1 is a bonding episode between Raps and her mum, and 1 is the midseason special where shit gets REAL

The animation for the most part is pretty great (Especially the facial animations of course), but some moments look kinda cheap. Especially when characters are walking or turning around to face someone. This isn't to discount the work of the animators of course, but stuff like that is pretty easy to spot from ToonBoom made productions, at least to me. Or I'm just a massive retard with no knowledge of animation software. Probably both.

Just finished season 1 bros. Holy shit that was fantastic. The song, Varian's perfect transition from a bumbling nerd to an autistic creep, Rapunzel goes fucking super saiyan. It all just works, despite how ridiculous it sounds on paper. I think if this and Cinderella 3 proved anything, if you wanna make a good Disney Princess sequel you just need to let a great team say fuck it and do whatever the hell they want. I'm almost 100 percent positive Frozen 2 will fuck that up gravely It's an absolute crime this show is as slept on as it is. You'd think the more universal nature of Disney's brand and animation would make it infinitely more approachable than Horseshit to more people but apparently not. For personal favorite, probaby Eugene. Not only is he absolute bro tier but him and Rapunzel's relationship are handled so well, you really feel like they care for each other. Also Zachary Levi clearly has a ton of fun with the role. Second personal fave would probably be Rapunzel. They did such a fantastic job of making her a likeable protaganist here. She doesn't work as an independent protag because the show just needs her to be one, she has her own tangible goals and aspiration and grows as a character. I feel like a lot of protags in these """""serious""""" animated shows the mainstream lauds could learn a lot from how she's handled.
As for the BEST character, probably Varian. You see where he's coming from, especially since he's still just an immature child and was legitimately let down badly by someone he trusted. But despite all that he still turns out to be a dick you love to hate. In Didney's age of twist villains, this one's a great example of how it should be done. If we're going with Wreck It Ralph as the first time they started pulling that shit, this show still stands as Disney's best version of their self made cliche.

Probably nobody in this thread cares except me but I'm really disappointed with the latin spanish dub for this series.
Disney usually has decent enough dubs to make it enjoyable to watch their movies and series in either english or spanish and I'm used to double dip because of it, but the songs localization and many of voice cast choices are just weird and in many cases simply bad.
They got the voice actress of Anna from Frozen to play Rapunzel instead of the original movie voice actress and it's really off putting.
Eugene is ok and to be fair it was unrealistic to expect them to get Chayanne to replay his part from the movie.
But Cassandra is just awful, I hate her accent.

Something she actively fought against in S1. Why would Rapunzel desire that when she lives for adventure and risk? I think it was a mistake and they ignored this aspect of Rapunzel's character just to make the plot work.

She wanted independence and adventure. Then in Queen For A Day, she got to feel real responsibility and consequences. When Mattthews put her in the Black Mercy dream, he targeted the weakest part of her, the Rapunzel we see is a fragment, the frightened child that misses certainty and security. The strong confident woman she's become isolated itself to protect her, and helped her see that the true path is never the easiest.

It's not out of character for her to be tempted. Even Christ was tempted. But ultimately she did not succumb.

I'm calling it, in the last episode (after the wedding) Raps and Eugene will visit the grave of Cass.
