Thoughts on R. Crumb?

If only Bode didn't go out like David Carradine

If only Carradine didn't go out like Carradine

I've always been fascinated at his complete honesty about himself, not a lot of people in the pre-internet days would be so brazen about their fetishes and self critical about them in print.

Didn't the mention of his name at the Eisners or something recently make people start booing?

>I think R. Crumb is one 'of' the greatest American Cartoonists, but he's got really weird taste in women.
He strikes me as sort of a gentile Larry David: smart, funny, comically neurotic, and hyper-self-aware. He knows exactly what he wants, and has carefully found the specific traits necessary to maximize his pleasure (he's done several of these weird autistic check-lists), but at the same time he's afflicted by his puritan morality. He's so loaded with Progressive ideology that he can't get past the Whore-Madonna complex. This afflicts a lot of people, but it's almost comical in his case because he has these caricature-like, almost grotesque, desires and wants and just he always seems to get hung up on how it's "bad" of him to feel that way. The comic where he gets cucked by, and then cucks, Donald Trump is a good example of this.

I feel bad for him that he's not Jewish, honestly. The crowd of degenerates, libertines, and rebels he was part of in his younger days has now rejected him for being an anti-semitic alt-right RethugliKKKan dog-whistler or whatever when he's clearly just an old degenerate who never left the 70s.

A couple years ago there was a twitter thread where John Backderf tried explaining to a bunch of people that Crumb's absurdly unabashed racism and sexism was meant as satire, but thousands of tumblr people argued with him about it until he spinelessly made a 180 and said that yes, Crumb is bad
