A pretty fucked up guy, but hugely influential. For me he embodies in visual form that same sort of intentional greasy ugliness as Frank Zappa's music and both are sort of hit-and-miss but with a singular style that the world would be emptier without.
The documentary about him is more enjoyable than his actual work IMO but that's because it's one of the best ever.
His music is actually kind of neat too

I can see how Edmund McMillen was inspired by him
he's the most basic bitch the underground comix artists. take a look at how creative the others can be and you'll quickly realize how formulaic and lame his shit was.
He was the original illustrator for Harvey Pekar, and has tons of his own autobio comics about how he likes to jack off. They did more to canonize autism than anyone else
Before based Shad, there was the mighty Crumb. This man knew that the future belonged to the booty.
Hideous self-insert
Other than his weird fetishes, what is fucked up about him?
There's nothing weird about liking big fat asses
Based and redpilled
I think he's a great artist, but I agree in terms of creativity. Victor Moscoso's comics are brilliant, shame he didn't keep up that side of his career.
Like a lot, Would love to find his complete collections/whole work or similar stuff scanned.
Seen the documentary with his brother. They are both autistic, but Robert managed to channel his autism into comics. If it wasn't his talent for creating comics and he fact he was an icon during late 60s, I think he would not fit at any job, not even burger flipping.
He was also the one who launched the movement in general.
>bent arms
As bodyweight-fit fag this pic offends me.
Does tumblr not know who he is? I feel he’d be the first one to get attacked by them honestly.

Robert Crumb explains the Bean Effect
None that I can safely post, I'm afraid.
Oh shut up.
His whole upbringing was fucked up. One of his brothers ended up being mentally ill and commited suicide soon after the movie was released, and the other pursued art but was also deeply troubled. Their parents weren't ideal either. Other than that, he sometimes was a contrarian to almost everything that was popular around him, which made his fame actually grew much to his chagrin. Feminists hate them but some women actually love him for introducing fatter women/sexually promiscuous women in his work.
Vaughn Bode and Spain Rodriguez had more spark, but Vaughn died too young and Rodriguez never managed to jump into the mainstream like Crumb. Crumb's work is iconic for several reasons. I wonder if working for a greeting card company helped train that skill.
Oh wait, did I say that there was nothing more I could safely post? Silly me.
Truly a man ahead of his time, I wonder what he'd think of chan-culture or modern degeneracy shit in general.
>that pose
The original VimHomeless
i didn't know that until i read this post but it makes sense.
Wow, he...he actually draws himself as accurately as possible in his comics. Like shit, that's near 1 to 1.
I saw a comic where he drew a sexy female sasqautch and had a shameful boner.
yep, and here's an example from 2016
He'd hate the idea of Chan-Culture but would stick around for the big women.
>comparing Crumb to Shad of all people
Hey, Shad is just the 21st century Crumb. And that's a good thing.
Ironic and satirical racism is lost on snowflakes.
Shad's drawings look like shit compared to Crumb's
Also, Shad jumps on every new trend contrary to Crumb who doesn't give a fuck on whats popular at the moment and draws whatever the fuck he wants
hes a man after my own heart
youtube.com
shad seems like a nice guy at least
I like the way he draws women and all his unbirthing comics
At some comics awards ceremony Crumb was booed by those who attended
He's from a time I never experienced and can't relate to, and his comics only make sense in its context.
>Thoughts on R. Crumb?
I keep forgetting to order a copy of his illustrated Book of Genesis. I took a copy out from the library once when I was a teenager and it read the whole thing front to back several times. Great stuff.
I think R. Crumb is one 'of' the greatest American Cartoonists, but he's got really weird taste in women.
If only Bode didn't go out like David Carradine
If only Carradine didn't go out like Carradine
I've always been fascinated at his complete honesty about himself, not a lot of people in the pre-internet days would be so brazen about their fetishes and self critical about them in print.
Didn't the mention of his name at the Eisners or something recently make people start booing?
>I think R. Crumb is one 'of' the greatest American Cartoonists, but he's got really weird taste in women.
He strikes me as sort of a gentile Larry David: smart, funny, comically neurotic, and hyper-self-aware. He knows exactly what he wants, and has carefully found the specific traits necessary to maximize his pleasure (he's done several of these weird autistic check-lists), but at the same time he's afflicted by his puritan morality. He's so loaded with Progressive ideology that he can't get past the Whore-Madonna complex. This afflicts a lot of people, but it's almost comical in his case because he has these caricature-like, almost grotesque, desires and wants and just he always seems to get hung up on how it's "bad" of him to feel that way. The comic where he gets cucked by, and then cucks, Donald Trump is a good example of this.
I feel bad for him that he's not Jewish, honestly. The crowd of degenerates, libertines, and rebels he was part of in his younger days has now rejected him for being an anti-semitic alt-right RethugliKKKan dog-whistler or whatever when he's clearly just an old degenerate who never left the 70s.
A couple years ago there was a twitter thread where John Backderf tried explaining to a bunch of people that Crumb's absurdly unabashed racism and sexism was meant as satire, but thousands of tumblr people argued with him about it until he spinelessly made a 180 and said that yes, Crumb is bad
