If not for him Scooby Doo would have been cancelled in 1979 and remembered now only by a small group of fans as obscure cult classic from 70s.
Was Scrappy a hero we needed, but did not deserve?

Was Scrappy a hero we needed, but did not deserve?
As a kid, I liked Scrappy, and when i got older and got the internet, I was kinda surprised by how hated he was
>If not for him Scooby Doo would have been cancelled in 1979
But that is what Scooby Doo deserves
I was fine with Scrappy, I remember one time when I was 8 and my friend began shouting Scrappy's catchphrases I joined him and we had a good laugh about it, though even as a kid I hated how Fred, Daphnie and Velma suddenly went missing
>WB scrubbed The New Scooby and Scrappy-Doo Show from the face of the Earth and it has no home video releases
its on Amazon and Itunes at least, but it triggers my tism there is a huge chunk of the Scooby Doo canon I can't own on home video
Yeah, the disappearance of the others bugged me too. Didn't Velma still make some appearances, though?
Ghoul School sequel when?
After Curse of the 13th Ghost, do you really want that? This actually makes me a bit worried about the Zombie Island follow-up.
Daphne was the only returning regular in later seasons, though Fred and Velma made rare guest-appearances.
Yeah, I'm sure they'll do the "monsters are not real" Crap again.
I hate that shit...There's a reason why the Scooby.Doo movies with real monsters are the most popular.
I honestly don't know what he did to get so hated, especially since he was the only one of the trio that actually attempted to capture ghosts instead of running away all the time.
I hated Scooby Dum a lot more than him.
Same. What's the deal?
He's an easy strawman to blame for the shitty quality of the 80s Scooby series when the animation budget dropped to about $50.
This is basically the most correct answer
I've always felt like Scrappy Hate was pure revisionism or a meme that went too far. He was never particularly annoying when I was a kid.
The only hate he deserves is the hate he gets for the Scrappy Rap.
Scrappy hate was really because when they removed Fred and Velma. He then ended up taking their traits.
I never liked Scooby Doo as a kid.
What's some essential Scooby Kino, so IO can educate myself?
original show
a pup named scooby doo
some of the movies
johnny bravo
maybe mystery inc although ymmv
Unironically hating Scrappy Doo, Batman & Robin, and Sikver Age is so... 2000s
>we could live in a universe where Scooby Doo died out and Hanna Barbera instead chose to constantly reinvent and reboot Captain Caveman and the Teen Angels
IT'S NOT FAIR
FUCK YOU AND FUCK YOUR PUPPY POWER
>some of the movies
zombie island
witch's ghost
ghoul school
>reading wikipedia on the scooby movies real quick
>see this
"A sequel, titled Scooby-Doo! Return to Zombie Island is in development"
huh, okay I suppose I can be down. Better be animated by the same company though.
>A sequel, titled Scooby-Doo! Return to Zombie Island is in development
IT'S TERROOOOR TIME AGAIN!
>t.scrappy
We got it, though it was just an episode of OK-KO.
Me too. Scrappy is like Meg Griffin.
>OK-KO.
Don't you dare to talk about that crap.
those were the best episodes imo. they were mostly generic straight-man characters who barely contributed. it was when the Scrappy trio's adventures got really interesting since it turned into a "real paranormal" chase comedy.
There was even one episode where Scrappy had his own trio
Cringe.
>yfw they retcon the events of “Zombie Island” as an elaborate scheme/hallucination like with “13 Ghosts”
how dare you use that word
It's honestly just a meme at this point, perpetrated by oldfag fans. His tenure lasted far longer than the OG cast so obviously he was successful for the kids at the time.
>defending Scrappy Doo
The contrarianism has gone too far. Cease.
How do people not hate Scrappy?
He was an overconfident idiot who thought he was tough shit even though he literally did nothing besides have to be rescued. Also his voice was incredibly annoying.
How old are you two? Scrappy was the coolest for a long time.
Never understood why they removed them, unless the VAs at the time were doing different things. We know Frank Welker did a lot of VA work since then.
I know those two weren't as popular back then, so maybe they thought they could remove them, but obviously they were popular enough for people to be retroactively pissed about the change.
>one episode where Scrappy had his own tri
>one episode
There were several. When it was just Scooby, Shaggy, & Scrappy every episode had 3 segments with one often being about Scrappy and the cops.
