XFL needs to change so that their season falls inline between otas and the NFL pre season. It'll only compete against the MLB. The way it should work is that the best college teams play their championship games, the NFL playoffs have some of the best teams playing each other and culminating in the best teams from 2 divisions, and the XFL follows up what should be weeks of the best football with play that ranges from college level to 2nd/3rd string NFL ball. You can be the opening act or the room clearer. Assuming there's a 2nd season. It'll also leave openings for teams with shitty and long winters to have good games. I'm a Lions fan and I'd go see mid summer football if my team is competitive, I'm sure the rest of the NFCN cities, Cincinnati and Cleveland would fell the same.

problem is you're opening up against a bunch of beginning of summer sports shit that isnt football and competing against the beginning of summer itself. i think they made the right decision to run it immediately after the super bowl because there's nothing to compete against than day to day marathon nhl/nba/cbb to make a good first impression

They can easily finish after the NBA/NHL and start before the pre season. They might even be able to have some post NFL draft special where guys that don't get signed may get a chance to play a little more before the NFL regular season. Timing is bad is all I'm saying. There are 4 big american sports and football is evidently the leader. Motorsport is seperate for this and other summer sports are niche. They have die hard fans that will watch their preference first. As for MLB regular season someone is willing to turn off 1 of a 100 games especially if the game feels inconsequential like a lot of them do in this modern era. I just don't think this level of play works following the biggest game of the year. Last year, maybe. The owl was shit but then the AAF went to shit real quick and you couldn't even find some games on tv. Going in 4 weeks from the Super Bowl to a webcam feed only available online with no announcers is a rough sell.

Honestly I knew the AAF was doomed when they introduced special guest announcer Marv Lewis right after he got shit canned.
