You should only bet an underdog if their is a trend to exploit, which is rarely. The last underdog I bet on was Titans against Patriots in the wild card. One of the few times when you should've caught the bookies slipping. Made $1000 on that bet laying $300

College basketball is the biggest home field advantage sport there is. The refs openly refball away teams. It's part of NCAA culture. Unless it's a ranked team vs. some scrub, betting on away team is not advisable.

Maybe your problem is that you were betting on the most volatile team in the league. I never bet on a Nuggets game. They're in 2nd place in the West, but they only have a 3.3 point differential with their opponents. Compare that to 1st place Lakers at 7.8, and the 3rd place Clippers at 6.2. Basically, Denver is not a very consistent team.
