after the 2022 WC cycle, the two confeds will begin the processing of merging with the hosting of an expanded Copa America in 2024

after the 48 team World Cup in 2026, the CONAM will then create an expanded nation's league, and the Copa America will then become a playoffs for that league.

this is the plan unless the unlikely event that the current leadership of USSF and SUM is altered. there still isn't a clear plan for Copa Lib, as it's not clear about any clubs agreeing to the travel involved. it might be that Copa Lib and CONCACAF Champion's League stay as separate things with a Cup Final between each winner

also unclear is how MLS and LigaMX interconnection will play out. Some big LigaMX teams want to adopt a closed league system like MLS, but overall the Mexican Federation doesn't want to merge. MLS is interested in some type of merger so long as they control it.
