Quite a few bought back when the housing market wasn't ridiculously inflated. London is unironically becoming whiter though because of gentrification and cost of living. If you go to areas like Hackney or Brixton the demographics have changed massively over the last 10 years and there are a lot more rich whites living there than before. A lot more eastern Euros living here as well in comparison to a decade ago.

poor people in major cities always baffle me. I remember seeing some guy on Yea Forums bragging about living in a rent-controlled box right in manhattan, and it just seems so bizarre for someone to accept that. I understand young people who move to the city trying to "make it," but you get 45 year old grown ass men who would rather live off welfare and live like a peasant than work a minimum wage job in the midwest and live like a king

To a lot of poor people who live in London and who were born here the idea of moving out doesn't even cross their minds. I've met people who've never even left London before and who are in their early 20s. It's crazy but at the same time it happens pretty much everywhere. People still live in terrible shit holes like Middlesborough and Sunderland when they could live a much better live in a city down south.
