Dak has been running a veteran offense since day 1. It was an offense tailored for a wizard-genius aka ROMO. It requires 3-level reads, constant down-field passing, and pre-snap recognition of defensive coverages. That’s a tall order for a rookie-sophomore. On top of this we ran single-digit WR screens last year and only a handful of RPOs. Mentally and physically, we made it really hard on him. And honestly should’ve utilized simpler concepts. But on the plus side, Dak has had a lot of reps at decision making and imo decision making is the MOST IMPORTANT trait of a successful qb.
Now let’s compare that to Wentz:
1) he ran the 3rd most screens in the league last year 2) he was #1 in RPOs .. here’s the thing about RPOs: it’s a single player read .. not even a single-level read .. your keying off one single player Wentz ran 181 RPOs out of 440 passes, a whopping 41% 21% of Wentz’ throws were behind or at the LOS I think it’s pretty clear when Foles comes in and wins the SB that it’s more the system, less the qb. So what I’m saying is Wentz hasn’t had nearly as much practice at in-game, multi-level decision making. And one more thing. I remember another player who ran a shit ton of RPOs and WR screens taking the league by storm and being the Eagles new franchise QB. His name: Nick Foles. But then the league caught on and Foles began a downward spiral getting worse and worse each year until he was out of a job.
I honestly believe the league will catch on to the Wentz system. You can’t rely on screens and RPOs for more than a season. So either he starts to develop a higher-level offense and we see a learning curve or they run the same gimmick and aren’t as successful.
