You can play teams of four anytime anywhere. It's the ultimate high school sport here. Not to mention it's fast as fuck so you develop your skills much better.

It was part of highschool curriculum and also standard for training football during the winter break with youth and adult amateur teams.

How come it's so big in Brazil? I always took it for a cold weather sport because it's common winter practice here. Especially since you can split a field team in 2 and have just enough players for 2 futsal teams

It's what most people play here when they want to kick some balls.
Easier to jump in and just play unlike real football.
Lots of abandoned warehouses and stuff gets turned into futsal courts.
We even got our first season of futsal league this year.

Our futsal fields are usually out in the open. Only in my neighborhood there's 4.

Brazilian public schools can't possibly afford to have a football field, I don't know a single one that does, so they have these courts where kids can play futsal, basketball, volleyball, handball. But mostly futsal, lol.
