There's a lot of factors involved here that have little to do with Ronaldo
1. squad building is completely fucked with Uncle Flo buying galacticos and odd Mendes players here and there who just don't fit Real Madrid
2. decline of the core players from 2014-2017. Modric is old, Kroos is average, Casemiro is no longer world class, Varane has stagnated, Marcelo got old, Isco/Asensio have become overrated dogshit
3. players are tired from having won those champions leagues. Winner fatigue happens and at this point you could argue that most of the RM core that won the 3 back to back CLs stopped giving a fuck since their legacies are secured as serial winners in Europe. Nevermind the fact that they only won La liga once since the Decima in 2014 but to their credit, they managed to fool the casuals into thinking they are the best by just not giving a fuck about the league while Barcelona were stupid enough to compete in every competition and stretch themselves thin - even though Barcelona could have easily won those Champions leagues and beaten RM given how many times they assrape RM and their CL choking issues have to do with player fatigue from going all out in every competition.

They were successful for these reasons.
1. Keylor Navas is the fastest keeper off his line of all time, and had 2 to 3 game saving moves/saves per game, since madrid hardly ever played defense.. his saves were all at important times to make sure madrid didnt go down early.
2. Ronaldo spear headed the attack and put in a shit load of goals and was clutch enough to score in big moments.
3. Marcelo was a bit younger.
