Thread to discuss latest cycling news and lesser races prior to world championship. Also general shitposting.
Races: Today (18.09): Giro della Toscana (1.1) Grand Prix de Wallonie (1.1) Tour of Slovakia (2.1) 18.09 - 21.09
Upcoming: Coppa Sabatini (1.1) 19.09 Kampioenschap van Vlaanderen (1.1) 19.09 Primus Classic (1.HC) 21.09 Memorial Marco Pantani (1.1) 21.09 Gooikse Pijl (1.1) 22.09 Grand Prix d'Isbergues - Pas de Calais (1.1) 22.09 Trofeo Matteotti (1.1) 22.09 Omloop van het Houtland Lichtervelde (1.1) 25.09
Based. Let's hope the thread survives until the WC. I am VERY hyped
About the Dutch team: I don't understand why Gesink is not there, he did a great job at Vuelta. It should be all about Mathieu but I don't see Terpstra or Mollema working for him, they always only think about themselves. And Weening wtf? Is this 2005? I am a bit worried.
Camden Clark
>“I don’t understand,” Stuyven told Belga. “Apart from Greg and Phil, our leaders, which other riders in the selection can show better results than me?
is he fucking serious? t b h I'd only rate Declerq lower than him, but every team need good domestiques.
Late to the news but just heard Big Dave has cancer. Diagnosed during the tdf. Feel bad know for laughing at the head on him in this photo from the Dauphine
Thought it would be above 420 Watts or something like that.
Back then over 450 Watt would be common for the very best.
Leo Garcia
Too cold. I'd go with a tour of the Stans. Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan. Maybe a little detour into India or Nepal. Abdoujaparov could be the spokesperson for this new grand tour
Joseph Turner
Back in the days Abdou often appeared on Eurosport Russia during big races and talked smack about Cipollini lul
Colton Roberts
Unless they have the exact power data and rider weights (they don't) then this is meaningless.
Levi Richardson
Back then they were heavier. These wattages for the skeletons we have now are ridiculous.
>That damage control Just shut up Tom you are making it too obvious you were involved.
Connor Rodriguez
Lutsenko was apparently alone for 90 km or something insane like that, will probably win the WC
Chase Campbell
not possible anymore they suspend your whole team if you have more than than 2 or 3 doping cases in a season >Spellcheck cringe, i exptected better off him i hope so because he seems like a genuine nice guy instead of gloating that hes the best kazakh rider by a mile but unless its an uphill sprint there are too many guys who could beat him if he isnt alone
So what's the redpill on the WC course? Impossible to see how much climbing there actually is, some are saying even a sprinter like Bennett could compete
Jaxson Thomas
>sprinter
no way. the redpill is that the race most closely resembles Amstel Gold, so expect people that do well there to do well in Yorkshire
pretty classic parcours. several asshole hills could be kill for pure sprinters, especially if temp will be high. ideal for puncheurs like MVDP and Allahflip. Sagan and GVA could also do well.
>TFW trying to get my mind ready for fall/winter rides bros...
Thomas Martin
Might be biased herel, but a tour of the USA would be kino af, we literally have every type of environment, from eserts, to flatlands, to mountains, to forests. Biggest challenge though is that it's too big to feasibly get the whole US represented, unless they do the Trans-Am bike route with the teams going to different areas of the US on the rest days.
John Morris
7 for Allah is nice but you're going to get cukced by van der poel
Ryan Green
Already have my zwift ready. Can't say I look forward to it
Charles Morris
Or you could easily do the race in different parts in different years.
>-2.6°C this morning >road 50/50 dry/wet >wet parts about 50/50 frozen/wet >tfw The first rides with frozen roads are always the sketchiest feeling.
Jaxon Sanchez
>tfw my garmin showed me 26.5C during the lunch ride today can't remember such warm weather here in literal siberia in september like ever maybe global warming is real after all
Do you use spikes? When it's frozen I always pussy out and stay home
Jace Phillips
Nice. We also had really warm start to September. But this week it returned back to normal weather.
Not right now but once it gets a bit colder so that there's consistently icy mornings I change to studded tires. The worst times for bike riding are fall and spring since both make the roads icy as fuck and super slippery. Riding on snow isn't bad and you could do that on any cx/gravel tire that isn't completely slick. With studs even the ice isn't that bad unless it's one of those days where it looks like a Zamboni drove down the streets.
William Ward
Personally, in autumn/spring, when there's no snow but still thin ice on the road, I just use spiked tire on front wheel and normal at back. It's usually enough.
Oliver Diaz
September/October is hotter than ever and March/April is colder than ever. I think the seasons have shifted forward a month. Someone check the earths axis. Perhaps earth is flat after all
Brandon Reyes
Today on menu is fairly boring criterium race, judging from the profile.
Kampioenschap van Vlaanderen (1.1) Koolskamp - Koolskamp 185.1 km
>moved to Denver CO >winter is coming >my two shitty options are buying a CX bike or buying a smart trainer
what do lads?
Robert Perry
both t b h
William Hernandez
Both desu, and unless you plan on doing CX races a gravel bike is a better option. The geometry works better for general riding than on a CX bike that has high BB and steep head tube angle. And you can still do CX races on a gravel bike, it's just not optimal.
Michael Turner
2bh gravel grinding is fun as hell on my aero bike, provided they're very granular roads, for which the high country out here has plenty of
I know you don't necessarily need a gravel bike for gravel riding. It's just CX bikes are bad for anything other than racing CX because of their geo. But if you want something that can take a bit wider tire and be used as a "winter bike" then a gravel frame will be much better than a CX frame.
Anthony Barnes
Quickstep signed this dude last week and he already won second race for them.
I am at a hotel in Bruges and the guys from Trek and Katusha are here. Fun
Parker Hill
Did you get autographs
Henry Anderson
Sadly our heroes from the 2nd line of Katusha and Trek had all gone to bed. Trek complained to the hotel manager that we were making too much noise, so expect big things from Trek with that level of focus I guess??
>Poomoulin indirectly exposed a few days ago >Allah indirectly exposed now
And then there are still retards thinking cycling is clean lmao.
Asher Myers
What. You mean men and women together relays. Now they really are going too far with this equality shit. Thank God I can still enjoy politically incorrect Rambo movies in this day and age before they turn it into some kind of Rambolina crap.
Kayden Wilson
>UCI wants to include mixed relay to 2024 Olympics Ha ha, they need the EPO to keep up with the men.
Owen Clark
This shit goes on in every elite sport, just need to mask it or microdose before the main event. Everyone is looking for that body chemical upgrade nowadays. Look at major bodybuilding contests, they are all on body enhancing drugs. And no one gives a fuck.
Isaac Collins
Yves Lampaert won Tour of Slovakia by one second over Arnaud Démare
Geraint Thomas has withdrawn from participating in the time trial at the UCI Road World Championships, citing a lack of form as the reason for skipping. Will be replaced by John Archibald.
>Everyone is looking for that body chemical upgrade nowadays >nowadays Nigga they've been after it always. Nowadays it's just frowned upon by the public unlike a few decades ago when they did it openly.
Anthony Baker
I get what you mean, these days there are more kinds of drugs available, more ways to mask it. Nowadays it's more sophisticated compared to tens of years ago.
Henry Rodriguez
Sure looks like a beautiful afternoon in this part of Belgium.
Hunter Smith
Literally who?
Cooper Richardson
>John Archibald Track cyclist
Gavin Ramirez
What a turbo faggot he skipped the Vuelta for that and now he won't even do it.
literally who can stop him, is there a head to head with van der fraud ?
Dylan Reyes
Hilly riders are way overrated on this parcours imo Got Nils Politt at 400/1 a few days ago. Kristoff at above 50 is a steal with the distance/weather/parcours combo. Can't believe France didn't select Demare he would have as good a chance as Alaphilippe.
I really like the light blue and yellow Kazakh colors. Been tempted to buy an Astana jersey for a few years already. I just have so many jerseys already that I have no real need for any more.
>Van Der Poel - 19th HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA THIS IS THE MAN WHO'S GONNA WIN GOLD!???? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Jackson Torres
Have done two rides (82km and 87km) this week with 2 rest days in between.
New routes with nasty 11%-14% undulation in succession....they blow my quads away, cannot recover from it, and at the end I always end up with a pathetic overall average speed of 25 km/h, about 900 m elevation gain.
John Rodriguez
At this rate I'd be very surprised if he doesn't choke at the worlds
Brody Campbell
It was a training day for him today. After the race he did another 100 km on his own
>training ride >had no energy to finish in top 10 sure thing
Logan Lee
Mathieu is probably depressed at once again getting dabbed on by Groenewegen, Jakobsen and Teunissen. It was a fun flash in the pan before he got exposed, if you want Dutch success I recommend the elite women's world championship instead
Julian Carter
Did no one see mvdp absolutely dabbing on sagan and gva?
Levi Cox
Yes. He dropped them on that molehill without any effort. If he doesn't get sick or crash or something he is unbeatable next week.
Liam Kelly
If the finish line was 50km earlier that would've been really impressive
Joshua Reyes
The lotto soudal chef has a Twitter account of his foods. He's cooking for the Belgian cycling team this worlds also. His stuff looks amazing. twitter.com/CarolDeDobb
Carter Cruz
It's about form, not about who won some irrelevant shitter race
>thought WC was today >it's next week fuck, I was all hyped up
Xavier Anderson
We need to talk about erectlie dysfunction
Kayden Scott
he'll do the same at the worlds, the man can't into tactics - it's a miracle he won Amstel, that early attack had put him out of contention
Gavin Torres
Based 0iq zoomers with their attacks early in the race.
Christopher Sanchez
It would have been funny to watch if they would send a team with vVleuten vdBreggen and Vos, even if the male team would consist of me and two fellow anons we would still win.
Meh, I've already lived in Germany, it's not like it's any worse than Finland. Being within driving distance of the Alps will help me with the depression. And coming from a small town almost in the Arctic I'm not sure how it can get more depressing.
Wew the man taking the throne with a thot in his lap. Is he finnished now?
Nathaniel Fisher
> Martin Toft Madsen
World class minesweeper player, technical brainlet
Michael Long
What's the "uci world cycling centre" time?
Jason Mitchell
Just a team of riders from shithole countries.
Kayden Parker
I said this about the Danish profiles as well, but those hills are significant for rhythm etc, even if they're not long. Hiding them away just because the overall profile is "flat" is a 0iq move.
Matthew Watson
You can meet up with German user and do some drugs in the mountains.
Aaron Cook
That'd be ideal, but getting pretty much anywhere from Finland is the main goal right now.
Interesting to compare times between mean women. Pogacar has the fastest time but the best woman is only 11 seconds slower.
There is a U turn at the bottom of the hill. Could be dodgy
Liam Martin
What's wrong with Finland?
Brody Perry
>Team time trial got replaced with this shitshow
Nicholas Williams
Commies, astronomical housing prices compared to salaries, fucked up pension system built for boomers by boomers at the cost of everyone else. I understand that it may not be any better elsewhere but at least the pay will be better.
Even if it's just to do classics season, there is a lot of money to be made.
Sebastian Evans
>using land
Zachary Long
speaking of WVA, he consider legal action against ASO for damages. Although I don't really get on what ground. I mean, he is the only one who crashed on that corner.
They create a new meme discipline to get people interested in women cycling, ofc they're gonna try to have people come by paying more
Grayson Morales
Don`t forget dogs getting in the way.
Brody Scott
What a spiteful loser
Tyler Cox
>ride into a fence >blame the race organization Bravo
Eli Garcia
Based Sporza showing the women's junior ITT live. Just woke up and immediate comfy watching
Jace Wood
***growing cycling***
Each UCI prez is trying to invent more ridiculous shit than his predecessor, it's some kind of competition. Nowadays one would think Hein was not bad at all. He was a ruthless corrupt fuck, but at least he wasn't a brainless slug like Cookie, or a puny loser like the French Mayor.
LOL Russian girl takes the wrong road, has to turn around and still wins with 3 seconds
Luke Parker
Clearly EPO'ed from Chad Putin.
Anthony Morgan
For sure, without that mishap she would have destroyed the field. It was all around pretty kino with the British girl that almost crashed Fuglsang-style and still got bronze. Can't wait for the men's juniors
2.2.023 During men junior and women junior events, the maximum gear ratio authorised is that which gives a distance covered per pedal revolution of 7.93 metres.
Hunter Walker
btw, Vino's son is participating in event
Ian Mitchell
Finnish nationalism on the rise in YouTube live chat, lmao.
Adrian Murphy
And is shit. Maybe he needs Kashechkin's son's blood
Grayson Cox
Marco Brenner has been named the new Evenepoel already. Let's see how he does or whether it's a fraud
Connor Miller
ok this actually the dumbest shit I've seen in a while. how can they justify this. even if they wanted to attract riders they didn't need to go full retard with the prize money. absolute clowns running things
Hudson Cooper
>Italian bikes
Brandon Ortiz
Brenner exposed. He is only 17 though so he still has next year
Ayden Torres
Do you think you could win the junior women TT? 36km/h is not bad on a hilly course
Easily. I could probably finish pretty high even on the junior men's TT, especially on a course where they're spinning out due to gear limitations.
Ryder Gonzalez
Starting to think they did it on purpose and Tiberi did the whole course on a motorized bike. He's gonna win
Justin Torres
The is super retarded though with essentially a huge fuckoff spike pointing at passing riders. It's a miracle this is the first time it's happened.
Aiden James
e.g. 41x11, 45x12 or 52x14
Julian Bell
I know, the fences had a retarded design and were a massive safety hazard. Hopefully they'll improve.
Big brain tactics desu.
James Sanders
Watched a Sean Kelly documentary. What a nice man he is
Colton Baker
Probably not desu. Barely top 10 if I had to guess. Oh well.
Leo Evans
Yeah. Especially with a TT bike
Anthony Evans
Imagine the speed if horses were able to ride bikes
Wyatt Fisher
Where do you stand on Strade Blanche potentially as a future 6th monument?
Brayden Brooks
Too much dead weight I think, maybe on the flat they could be fast but I dont think they would be able to climb very well. Also, only their rear legs would be useful on a bicycle of course.
Carson Hughes
Give it another 30-40 years and we'll see. It has potential but who knows what happens.
