Aki basho 2: Now It's Personal Edition >Will Tochinoshin get revenge for Takakeisho's role in his demotion last March or will Takakeisho continue the ongoing humiliation of the 5-5 Ozeki, and come 1 step closer to regaining his rank? >Is Enho all he's chalked up to be? >Is another Maegashitter gonna take the Cup? All this and more, starting on day 11!
Ishiura did judo before becoming a rikishi. He doesn't do that great. But, he is in the top ~10%.
Jordan Allen
A lot of successful guys have judo backgrounds. It's also why Mongolians do well because most of them have mongolian wrestling backgrounds. The main issue is retaining their grappling ability as they build up their size.
Jacob Nelson
For me, it's based ENHO (whether he loses or wins)
Alexander Morris
Can Mitakeumi pull it off or will he choke like last year?
>Enho is based >Takakeisho is based and round >Asanoyama will get his second yusho >Goeido will fall to Sekiwake along with Tochi
It has been decreed.
Blake Ward
I forgot Goeido was injured last basho. He just needs two wins anyway so he'll probably do what he always does and henka a couple fucks. Beat Chiyotairyu tomorrow, henka Ryuden, then take the rest of the tournament off while giving Tochinoshin or Takakeisho a fusen.
William Taylor
The fuck was that tachiai
Cooper Reyes
It was too high level for you, you just couldn't understand it
Ayden Lee
He saw what happened to Ishiura and didn't want a repeat.

The whole match was pretty slow and heavy on technique, I enjoyed it.

this is the song used by AbemaTV in their sumo intro
>/jp/ had a thread last basho. I tried at least two times to get /jp/ more interested in sumo terrible board and moderation the only advantage over Yea Forums would be a more relaxed speed: here we have to bump every 2 hours or even less
we should make an effort to let other boards to notice that Yea Forums follows sumo; a couple of posts on /int/, Yea Forums, /ck/, /fit/ for example; or post a webm with audio on /wsg/ with a crosslink to came here etc.
Owen Baker
/jp/ isn't 'Japanese stuff', it's 'Otaku Culture' Sumo isn't really on topic there
Kayden Martinez
there are 100s different kinds of otaku including "sumo otaku"
anyway, I just posted a reminder in the Japan General at /trv/; that'd be enough for me today :)

wtf are you smoking, this is the best he's looked since his yusho
Apparently his stable was just him, Kakuryu, and two lower division guys? Wonder what happens to stables like that when the stablemaster just dies, will Kakuryu and his attendants just move to a different stable?

Where do you watch sumo? any good youtube channels or something?
Isaac Taylor
NattoSumo uploads full top division highlights a few hours after the matches happen in japan, he does clutter the screen with stats but when you get more nuanced in the sport it's actually pretty nice to see
Nathaniel Johnson
second natto. comes up at 1830 korean time, or 530 EST, so its up in the morning. The stats that mentioned are nice, and disappears after a few seconds. Pic is the stats. No english commentary though, but will flash up the winning move at the end during the reply
I've posted Miselet links in the last thread; also at Sumoforum they usually post tons of videos, new or old; for the very old ones there are links everywhere inside the sumoDB
Thomas Peterson
also NHK World shows the highlights with English commentary several times each day, then they upload them here:
current Juryo leaders are ranked J11 and J12 jobbers trying to hang in Juryo must be axed this time: I want at least 9 demotions to Makushita
any update on Toyonoshima possible retirement? that would free another spot to be added to the one left by Yoshikaze, and so a nice number of promotions into the salaried ranks
Christopher Butler
Kaisei bout show on natto. 6-5 even woth injury Chiyomaru makes an appearance, but loses to tochiozan. I missed his bulk Meisei keeps in the race, and ishiura had better sumo than he's had the last couple days Kotoyuki walks out of the ring Takarafuji kachi-koshi Okinoumi probably out of the running now Tsurugishio gets his kachikoshi. Enho works kotoshogiku front mawashi very well. 1 from kachikoshi. might be able to get it against takarafuji tomorrow with how slow amd not very mobile looking he is Salt man loses to an injured wrestler Aoiyama just giving people wins this tournament Hokutofuji gets under asanoyama, controls the whole match, and pushes him out Endo with a good move. 1 more to kachikoshi too Abi falls on his face. Good stability by tamawashi mitakiumi was moving foward well till ryuden turned him around and pushed him out Takakeisho decides that one person isn't enough to take out. eiffel towers tochinoshin with the goyji, and trust too hard and tumbles both. Decent belt work too. Tochi gets one more bogey. mitakiumi should be hungry for a win tomorrow after fighting hard today but getting out maneuver. Goeido wins after a million false starts
Takakeisho for the yusho. thats just cause taka is a powerhouse
While his knee is still obviously causing a problem, Tochi's problems seem 90% mental at this point. Took the tachiai really well (at least considering how Takakeisho's opponents normally end up) but then just floundered, weakly pawing at him until he was pushed over. No game plan, no aggression.
Carson Powell
I imagine he's leveraging aggression against the continuing health of his right knee. For instance, he probably could use his full-strength patented lift-out in one match this basho, at the cost of a literal exploding knee. Since he doesn't want that, and doesn't want to retire, he's trying to split the difference by using the minimum strength necessary to have a chance to win. Come to think of it, Tochi losing his right leg is a lot like Kise losing his left arm.
Ian Morales
I dont think he could get his hands on takakeisho's mawashi. taka was able to slap his hands away pretty well and get inside. Its usually over when someone that much shorter stands you up while inside like that, removes any leverages
Elijah Kelly
Hiro Morita is doing a public lecture in Tbilisi in a few days. What should I ask him?
Kayden Long
aoiyama so half-hearted. happy to see tomokaze pick up the win though
lmao at tochinoshin taking out the gyoji
Benjamin Fisher
Very weak footwork by Ishiura, could've saved it otherwise. Ah well. Okinoumi choking it. Not good. Nice win for Enho. Love seeing him boss larger rikishi like that. Terutsuyoshi in complete shambles. Sad! Asanoyama got destroyed today. Couldn't do crap. Endo won, Abi lost and my mood got improved just like that. Mitakeumi jobbing to Ryuden, holy fr*ck. Are all "title contenders" doing this today? The hell is going on? Thank gods for TakaBEAST. Just give him the cup already. Tochinoshin lost and I'm not even bothered. Man, what a great bout. Both went in with full force and delivered on the spectacle. And a flying gyoji too. Fantastic. Okay, the replays have it as if Tochi's knee buckled, but still.
Takakeisho and Meisei up there challenging and another 5 rikishi on a 8-3, this is gonna be great.
Kindly don't agree with your view of the bout, but the mentality part is something I do, kinda. I believe he's more aware of the fact that he is not 100% healthy and can't go full force and this is what's hindering him.
Tyler Cox
Enho is a god
Hunter Rodriguez
>Enho is a god
With his style of sumo, I wonder that nobody did brake his neck so far.
How wide open is this basho holy shit! 7 rikishi with a chance to take it. Takakeisho gotta be the favourite at this point, he's looking quite in form.
Mason Cox
Ura was the sacrifice we suffered to gain a tiny makuuchi rikishi who will have a long career.
Leo Brooks
i dont think theres anyone left that can beat him unless he himeslf doesn't perform well. hes got myogiryu, and probably goeido and abi, and one lower rank guy that's pretty not in the running so they can set up a playoff if takakeisho loses one of those ichinojo will happen next tournament if enho gets kachikoshi. it just has to.
Blake Nelson
>ichinojo will happen next tournament if enho gets kachikoshi. it just has to.
It's entirely possible. Ichinojo will get demoted enough to where they will be in match scheduling range next tournament.
Samuel Thompson
i was hoping for it this tournament, but ichi needed his nap. its probably going to be one of the first few bouts. with hiw ranks should shake out
Jordan Carter
m8, you could punch a sumotori in the head with karate fists for 15 straight minutes and he would feel nothing and laugh them off. That's how strong they are. It's true, I saw it in an anime.
Noah Young
>will Kakuryu and his attendants just move to a different stable? Pretty much, unless there's an on-hand replacement. That's one of the reasons the stables are all in groups.

Why do so many Japanese get stomach and pancreas cancers?
Bentley Hernandez
>Tochi's problems seem 90% mental at this point No way. The guy is covered with injection marks. He's full of painkillers. He probably can't even feel his feet.

Aiden Campbell

Gabriel Gutierrez
>Cancer isn't a single disease. Go smartassing with your mother, you stupid cocksucker!
Dylan Lee
Wouldn't that make him very prone to using his full strength and thus being more susceptible to re-injury? Given that we haven't seen him even attempt to use his old moves, I doubt that he's all that drugged-up.
Chase Morales
Obesity and diabetes are heavy risk factors for both. Smoking is also a heavy risk factor which is why you see it so much in older guys. Heavy alcohol consumption can also exacerbate other conditions that in turn increase the risk for pancreatic cancer, although the direct link between alcohol and cancer is weak. Add that all up and simply being a sumo wrestler is a massive risk for developing those types of cancers.
Nah he tried to use his old moves. Check out his bout with Chiotaiyruu (or w.e). Tochinoshin typically steamrolls him and carries him outside the ring like a baby. This tournament he struggled to lift him at all.
His knee is basically fucked and at this point he's just accelerating the rate at which he will be in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. It's been like this for the last two tournaments. Something is seriously wrong that he won't fix because the reconstructive surgery one hundred percent guarantees he will lose his ozeki rank.
>Takakeisho gotta be the favourite at this point, he's looking quite in form. Looks like a beast and only legitimately lost one bout, but just because he was robbed in the previous one and didn't clear his mind.
>and abi Gonna be a henka, innit.
>because the reconstructive surgery one hundred percent guarantees he will lose his ozeki rank Losing bouts does that too, you know.
Neat.

Juan King
OK, Tochi losing his rank ...
Dominic Hill
Yutakayama with a fabulous saving throw while balancing on one foot on the roop. Kachikoshi for him Tsurugishio with an easy win. he'll probably get ten. Salt man takes a win. Will he get ten losses? Shohozan gets beaten pretty bad and misses out on kachikoshi today Okinoumi beats meisei both tied now, probably out of running. Enho loses to takarafuji. I think he should have kept circling dark souls style and eventually get behind fuji and ride him out Kotoeko with a powerful overarm throw on ishiura Asanoyama shouldn't have gone downike that. Daieisho has his number like said Hokutofuji looked in trouble for a second. good save and finish Aoiyama actually looking good. he needs to fight like that all the time Shodia looked like he just gave up against abi. Tamawashi with a strong showing against endo, endo couldn't do anything. both are one away from kachikoshi
****OZEKI Takakeisho. Cap it off with the yusho too? will they promote him to yokozuna if he wins this and the next?****
The fucking goyjis this tournament. There was no reason to stop the goeido match either time. Goeido finally finishes it with a nice belt throw. Kachikoshi for him so he keeps his rank Goyji wasn't happy just fucking up one match, had to double down on tochi's. Mitakeumi takes the win, tochi looked in better position on the first go that shouldnt have been stopped, might have won too. might be it for him. He should beat ryuden tomorrow, but goeido might be who he loses rank to. is this the one who fell and stepped on taka's foot? takakeisho has the yusho if he wins out. he'll be motivated by that for sure.
>is this the one who fell and stepped on taka's foot? ... and the one who was pushed out by Tochi yesterday.
Dominic Gutierrez
Tochi looked like he was seething when that matta was called I feel sorry for him but at the end of the day he's the one who decides what to do about that knee
Austin Brown
>will they promote him to yokozuna if he wins this and the next? unlikely they waited one tournament to award him the Ozeki rank; they'll do the same; but there is a great need for a Japanese yokozuna: next year there are the Olympics, what if they want a jap to perform an entering ceremony there instead of the Mongolians? I'm not forgetting the rule of 2 consecutive yusho at ozeki, this time they may overlook that considering the current semi-ozeki stratus; also, what if he beats the 2 others yokozuna? what if it's a zensho yusho?
tl;dr probability > 0%
Josiah Richardson

Kevin Johnson
the quasi ozeki status might not be enough for them, but a zensho yusho might do it, especially if hak and kak are still in it, and takayasus back healthy.
Cameron Hernandez
That rope dancing by Yutakayama lmao. Looks like Takarafuji got Enho solved for this bout. Ishiura v Kotoeko was a very interesting bout. Very similar "bodily conditions", but it seemed as Koto got the superior technique. Also, Ishiura is 29 years old WTF? I believe one simply can not enjoy TakaBEAST's bouts. He is just this great. BTW what are yokozuna requirements? What the fuck is this gyoji doing, what a moron.
John Jones
This guy lmao.
>I believe one simply can not enjoy TakaBEAST's bouts. Shouldn't it be "can not not enjoy"? Ah well.
Henry Nguyen

Robert White
It's doable. Especially with chumps like Kakuryu up there.
Jeremiah Kelly
Absolutely pathetic performance by Chiyoshoma.
Jaxson Morris
Webm user, can you post Terutsuyoshi vs Azumaryu? I need to save that disgusting henka.
It’s just 1 ref fucking up every time. Same guy tripped Taka, tripped and fell out of the ring, got knocked out of the ring by Tochi yesterday, and made like 4 bad matta calls today
Camden Rodriguez
Takakeisho has a good chance for yokozuna next year if he stays healthy. What's the youngest yokozuna ever? He's only just turned 23
Its not the same guy. The one that triped Takakeishou and fell was Kimura Tamajiro and the one today with the matta calls was the Tate gyoji Shikimori Inouske
Samuel Wood
The shimpan and gyoji have been right on time with their shitty calls this basho. They must have been practicing.
Justin Gutierrez
I bet the TV ratings went up a bit because people expect another episode
they tend to put rikishi with the same score against each other; if salt-bae was 3-1 like Enho at the beginning they'd have met on Day 5 or 6 probably there are days in which they prefer to go by the "closest ranked" rule, while sometimes they chose 2 rikishi that never met before, and so on; this is for salaried ranks, lower divisions are more schematic
Died age 62. I wonder what sumo life expectancy is compared to the normal population
Gabriel Jackson
About 10 years shorter than average
Jayden Young
10 years less, give or take. The sample size is too small though, you get outliers like 22 and 95 actually having an effect because of how few rikishi there are. It all comes down to how much damage you take to vital organs.
It's different for rikishi because their fat is subcutaneous, not visceral. They still have some of the circulation issues and all of the joint problems, but not most obesity related complications.
Mason Lee
Sumo obesity is surely not the same as regular obesity though. Very active lifestyle and relatively healthy diet apart from the supersize meals. Although I believe strongmen have poor life expectancy too. Might be all the steroids
Nathan Nelson
>strongmen have poor life expectancy too. Strongmen eat like shit compared to sumo wrestlers and live a much less healthy lifestyle. They are the regular kind of obese (plus muscle). Lots of visceral fat, heart health issues, etc.

Justin Watson
Ryuden is today for us on this side of the world, a few hours really. i think goeido is the one who takes him out, but ryuden can do it to since he'll be fighting to try and squeak out kachikoshi
Charles Murphy
Chiyonokuni won
William Torres
they'll be around Ms4 and Ms9 in November, fighting each other again over the Juryo promotion
Enho up early in the tournament. Looked like he slipped while being pulled down. 9 for Yutakayama Meisei and Shohozan are slow to start and another two unnecessary stop. Meisei messes up his own throw/footwork and Shohozan gets kachikoshi Tochiozan looks like hes giving up against kotoyuki. turns his back too soon Salt man henkaed and return to the dirt Takarafuji gets tossed by tsurugishio. I thought fuji had the force out Okinoumi gets to 10. Chiyotairu's wost tournament in a while Asanoyama slips tom Aoiyama to little to late on the wins. resorting to slap down almost lost him this one too Hokutofuji with great saves all around, including the one for the win Endo good belt work and great use of the rope to keep himself in. kachikoshi Abi with his usual disgusting to watch sumo, but a wins a win and he gets kachikoshi. Mitakiumi almost lost that. 10 for him Tochi walks ryuden out of the ring. two more Takakeisho goes too low letting goeido get ahold of the back of his belt and cant do anything to regain balance. might have had a shot if he could have grabbed goeido's mawashi 4 man race now >j10 >j6 goeido was good enough to get the belt over the shoulder. takakeisho usually starts like that and then powers through mita might loses to goeido. goeido's got a shot at the tusho if he wins out with mita tomorrow and tochi on 15, and everyone else drops one. sumo association trying to rig him a yusho?
We're due Chokeido soon though, it might not be until senshuraku but he's starting to look good now which is usually when it happens, I think Mita wins tomorrow desu
Chase Rogers
keep in mind mitas had it rough the last few days besides brokenoshin. he almost lost today, did lose to ryuden, and was shoved around by tamawashi till tom got sloppy
Eli Ramirez
Not much to say about Enho and Ishiura other than that the first one lost and the other went with a henka. Shohozan v Meisei was another bout with crappy gyoji - the time he allowed them to duel was not any better than all the ones he ordered to restart. And having been slapped out of the title race like that must've hurt. What a nice bout that Tsurugisho v Takarafuji was. Very strong tachi-ai and some nice clinch action. Great witn for Tsuru. Solid win for Okinoumi, looked pretty evenly matched with Kagayaki, but good on his feet with a cheeky torso twist and pulled off a win. Kotoeko looked like he was about to get thrown out of the dohyo, but managed to push out his rival in the end. Pretty darn impressive. Hokutofuji v Tomokaze very exciting bout. So was Kotoshogiku v Endo. Endo showed he has potential for some top-tier sumo in him. Tochinoshin v Ryuuden looked like they both expected the other one to henka lmao. Solid bout and important win for Tochi. Takakeisho got defeated too easily, but it was a very good move by Goeido. Made use of his height advantage, good grip on the mawashi and just pushed Taka onto the clay. Still my favourite for the title.
Joshua Williams
>Not much to say about Enho and Ishiura other than that the first one lost and the other went with a henka. We can say that he deserves it because of yesterday
Tyler Garcia
>>j10 >>j6 sure, but still: 25 of the 33 wins were against past and present top division guys, while only 2 of the 12 defeats come from someone that has never been in the top division
Brody Garcia
There's also a large gulf between mid and lower maegashira, who are "top division", and actual sanyaku guys, especially yokozuna. It's why one of the conditions of ozeki promotion is already being sekiwake, because they face all the other sanyaku and top maegashira. 11 wins against that level of competition is much more impressive than 11 wins against juryo or lower maegashira.
Brandon Allen
total wins for an ozeki run don't even count until your rank is at sekiwake level
The last 4 ozeki promotions all started their runs at komusubi or lower but anyway I don't think he's actually saying he should be promoted straight to ozeki my dudes
Jordan Mitchell
I know that, my point is that double digit wins in the lower ranks doesn't necessarily mean someone will do amazingly higher up, because the quality of competition is so different.
Joseph Martin
bring Yago and Kaisei back up please
Brandon Evans
I love when Tochi does that flex and then waddles quickly over to the salt before the tachiai, always gets me hyped up
Jaxon Young
Try to figure THIS shit out... Ozeki- Goeido and Takayasu, safe till next basho. Takakeisho returns freeing up a sekiwake slot Tochinoshin will likely lose his rank.
Sekiwake- Mitaki is safe on the east side. Taka will go freeing up the west, but for who?
Komosube- Abi and Endo both made kashi koshi, so can rightfully be promoted.
If there's no room for promotion, I guess they'll just hold Abi and Endo in place again next basho.
Abi got an 8-7 last tournament at komusubi and stayed put because Takakeisho dropped to sekiwake like Tochinoshin might do this time. If Tochi is somehow able to keep his spot then the higher of Abi or Endo will get promoted, otherwise it's doubtful even with a 10-5 thanks to Mitakeumi having such a strong score. There might be an outside chance of one of them getting promoted if Asanoyama finishes strong enough that they want to promote him to komusubi, but even then they could just make him a third komusubi.
Jackson Jones
Day 15: Takakeisho 11 -3 Tsurigisho 11 - 3
Jack Hill
>third komusubi. last time we had K2 was November 2006 (Aminishiki and Roho)
John Williams
Ill be visiting Tokyo October 16-24th. Where is the best place to watch live matches?
Wyatt Scott
It's September.
Evan Miller
Yeah, so it's possible.
October is when they're on regional exhibition tours, the next tournament isn't until November.
if either Endo or Abi reach 10 wins, maybe they could promote them to a third Sekiwake spot and it would open up a spot for Asanoyama to go up to Komusubi
Parker Russell
There are tours with slots open on viator to watch a practice, and theres others where you can fight a retired sumo wrestler and eat chanko if thats more your drift

tomorrow:
Mitakeumi - Endo Okinoumi - Takakeisho
Kayden Phillips
Wakatakakage gets his kachikoshi from ishiura. Ishiura has one more shot tomorrow Shohozan keeps his balance. Azumaryu makekoshi Onosho fights hard to get kachikoshi too Enho kachikoshi. tochiozan tried to grip the rope with his toes lol Salt mans match was fun to watch, but he had like 5 shots to push takagenji out, and he blew his shot Tsurugishio goes down to kotoyuki, giving kachikoshi to him Kotoeko a shot at kachikoshi tomorrow Sadanoumi kachikoshi Chiyotairu upset over his loss, and pounds the dirt with his fist. hope his sumo is better next tournament. Feel sorry for him Meisei drops another. Disappointing last 3 days Asanoyama with a strong throw, but props to tomokaze for even making it into a match. Hokutofuji powers through tamawashi for kachikoshi. didnt think hed make it early on Aoiyama with the henkas of all henkas. Might have been a hair pull if they caught it Abi beats takarafuji his normal way. fuji is too slow to deal with him The goyji fucks up another call, decides to stop watching the mach, no monoii called, okinoumi hit the ground first on that throw. rigged to keep a playoff. some bullshit. Endo robbed Ryuden is just not strong enough or heavy enough to deal with the beast. didn't even look like he knew what to do against takakeisho Mitakiumi didn't want any of goeido. Whats with all these top guys henkaing this tournament. Chokenoshin. Bad ring awareness got him again. He looked like he was going to win that after he stepped out too. Myogiryu has a chance for kachikoshi even after coming back after missing a few days. this was the worst call this tournament, and probably for a long time. cant undertand why they didn't review it unless they want to keep okinoumi's record hed do it too lol
i rewatched to look at the judges. i cant see the side judge, but the front one is looking over and nodding his head. still think they just gave it to okinoumi still air underneath, and theres no mark on the dirt. atleast in tochinoshin's heel gate match there was a mark
Also these racists godless yellow bugs stole from Tochinoshin yet again. How dare they? > b-b-but he touched outside SO??? Know your place, inferior nips. To hell with the association You need some """Opinion SHAPERS"""!!!!
On the other hand Endo, as much as I dislike him, he in fact didn't touch. Bad decision there.

The sand is there literally for this exact reason and it didn't even look like someone farted on it, let alone actually touched it. Hopefully Takakeisho blows him the fuck out.
Matthew Rivera
Yes based Mitakeumi Now if he beats Endo we are guaranteed a playoff. I think Takakeisho will win the playoff.
Joseph Hill
takakeisho beat him easily this tournament. mitakiumi couldn't do shit in that match. if he doesn't get henkaed that is. mita should have saved that for takakeisho since hes going to be on the lookout for it now, and mita doesn't have anything else to use on taka now. maybe endo gets him to after getting todays stolen from him i use natto, and i missed that view completely. thanks

>Ishiura Enho looked strong and a positive record is fully deserving. Terutsuyoshi looked to be in control of the fight until he got pushed out. Really not his time, isn't it. Good defence by Asanoyama there. It's nice to see him winning. Didn't know how nimble Aoiyama can be LMAO. Endo proves again that he has some good sumo under his belt, defending like that is not something just anyone could pull off. Not even a mono-ii for that bout, tho? Idiot refs robbed two guys this tournament, absolutely shamefur! TakaBEAST looks strong as ever. Good to know that that loss yesterday didn't affect him at all. Yusho. Henkakeumi going full Aoiyama? They need to train people with better eyesight to replace these old fucks that can't see shit
Austin Wright
>but there is a great need for a Japanese yokozuna: next year there are the Olympics Is there isn't an active Japanese Yokozuna by the time of the Olympics they'll just drag an old fucker (or Kisenosato) out of the mothballs and drap him in one of these red bad boys.
I dont get it, why is it so hard to defeat Enho? Dont you just keep him far away, maybe like a hand on his head, keep trusting until he just kinda topples, most guys that won against him did that to great results. Why do some insist in grappling him and letting their hips low where he has a competitive chance.
Kevin Sanchez
>Dont you just keep him far away, maybe like a hand on his head He's just going to back away to try to maneuver around them if they do that. Do it again, he'll do the same thing. And they can't just stand there separate forever.
Zachary Cook
They won't promote him until he's been ozeki for at least a few tournaments but the whole 2 yusho in a row thing isn't real, more yokozuna in the modern period got promoted without it than with it, and the two most recent were Kakuryu and Kisenosato and neither of them did it
>that noticeable disappointment and "not this shit again" in both commentators' voices after another Aoyama henka
He's sure to win because his speed is superior.
Ryan Powell
What the hell happened to Chirotairyu?
Levi Morgan
Can't blame Aoiyama, Giku was begging for it with that tachiai. Webm user please post the Aoiyama match.
Jayden Martinez
>Can't blame Aoiyama You don't henka the Geek. Not ever. That's an iron rule of sumo nowadays.
Christian Sanders
They made him shave his sideburns and they were about 30% of his power.
Dylan Williams
>Webm user please post the Aoiyama match. honestly we need a henka compilation, there have been so many this basho
Aiden Powell
Takarafuji, Hokutofuji and Daieisho need a win tomorrow to enter a very limited club of guys with 48 wins in the last 6 tournaments; it's a little nice stat if you think about it: you get there for example by scoring 6 times a 8-7 (a full year of kachikoshi); unfortunately the first two will go against each other :(
how nuclear mad will the japs be when mitakeumi chokes again and okinoumi flukes his way to another win against takakeisho, giving him the basho especially with what happened today vs endo
that club is small because at every kachikoshi you'll get a promotion and so the following tournament will be more difficult; you also have to avoid injuries for a whole year of course (explaining to the newbies, don't mind me)
Christopher Wilson
Abi is the only guy eligible for a full top division calendar year kk run if he gets 8 next tournament.
Colton Carter
He's also leading in total wins for 2019!
Jaxon Martinez
I have no idea how he manages to be so good and so shit at the same time
Aaron Cook
He's the definition of "good enough." He keeps up his winning scores but has never gotten more than 10 wins at the top division. He's also never lost more than 9 in the top division which means his losing scores aren't that damaging. All he needs is a solid ozeki run and he'll be the next Goeido.
Josiah Adams
and he's getting envelopes too must be doing something right desu...
Are those envelopes specifically for him or are they total envelopes in matches that he won? Because upper maegashira and komusubi will mean more of the latter simply by virtue of facing higher ranked guys on a regular basis.
Chase Myers
bouts wins he got 71 envelopes placed for him at the beginning of Aki
but you still have to win the bouts some of those went to others on defeats, he got someone else kensho on the wins, hard to tell, also because envelopes placed can vary during the tournament, notably when a yokozuna retires
Colton Taylor
I hope Tochi wins today and takes a fat stack home as consolation.
Connor Gutierrez
Aight, so we can all agree that tochinoshin needs to retire right?
Levi Thompson
Only retards think that He should take a tournament off though
Cooper Kelly
Motobayashi form Naruto gets the Jonidan yusho he's still undefeated since debut
Dominic Wood
talking tochi? he cant. hes got a shot to get ten and regain ozeki next tournament. if he gets it back, he should take two off like takakeisho, get surgery, and see if 5 months would be enough to heal it and try and get 10 again. would be crazy if he gets it back 3 times
too many henka this tournament it's time for an official statement against it form the NSK I don't know a legit way to stop it conpletely, but a 5K dollars fine to the stable would probably be effective to reduce the occurrence
RIP to Tochi too, he probably has no knee left under those bandages.
Charles Price
First match, henka. Yutakayama gets 10 Tsurugishio drops another. Not sure what that move was at the end, but onosho punishes him for it Good belt move by Enho. 9 wins. Hes gunning for ichinojo. First day next tournament please Salt man with an ugly fucking win. nishikigi should have been able to win that Tochiozan fucks up a his henka. 2nd today Kotoyuki has really suprised me this tournament with how good his balance is for his body type Ishiura with a nice starting move. kachikoshi Daieisho and kotoeko have a fun bout to watch. Daieisho kachikoshi Meisei strong sumo, beats his losing streak, and takes out asanoyama. both 10-5 Aoiyama gets tossed Takarafuji just to slow to finish hokutofuji when he had him First good call by the judges this tournament. Nice to see Myogiryu come back from an injury and get kachikoshi, especially when its beating abi. others should take note of how he beat abi Takakeisho doing what he does best Endo ended by mitakiumi Goeido adding insult to injury. Beats tochi easily. probably would have been the same even with tochis rank on the line if he won yesterday Mitakiumi yusho. Takakeisho shouldn't have tried that pull down twice. not his style of sumo. Welp, probably back to lolhakuhowins next tournament. its been a few so hes due for another
>Funny how stuff like henka and kotenage seems contagious sometimes There was a tournament not too long ago where in one day there were like four tottari. Now if feels like I haven't seen one for a year.
Carter Flores
>a country that's contributed absolutely nothing to sport in its entire history Don't say that, all the courts and shit that are forcing trannies into the women's Olympics are in Switzerland!
is the top right one before the mongolians pop up abi?
Isaiah Sanchez
Will Kaisei be back next basho?
Chase Wood
no, still in Juryo around J3 or J4
Carson Rogers
I hope he stays there
Brandon Myers
Mitakeumi 2 (TWO) yushos. Already the most successful Jap of the last 15 years
Lincoln Torres
Based PINO Mitakeumi tied with Yokozuna Kisenosato. Takayasu on suicide watch.
Julian Bennett
>it's possible. yeah, but the field between M1 and M8 will look like Sendai after the tsunami; they'll have to drop one more guy to Juryo, starting a chain reaction that will go down to Makushita 10s since half Juryo is messed up, see
well... let's do it!!!
btw 1) it never happened that a M1e with 9 wins remained at M1e 2) the last K to be promoted to S2 after 9 wins was Dejima 20 years ago
Aww come on man, its nice to have some lardgod shitters in the division once in a while, also hes brazilian.
Caleb Hernandez
oh wait, they'll need more guys from Juryo, or they will get rid of M17 and M16... or... well, I give up; let's see first how many Ms will go up: that promotion will be announced next Wednesday
Jacob Sanders
> If playoff, I call Mitakeumi win. so, I was right afterall. Mitakeumi > Takakeisho But the next one is crucial for Mitakeumi. If both Kakuryu and Hakuho are on and in shape, getting 12 again might be too much for him. And then there is Takayasu needing KK and Tochi needing 10. Mitakeumi has a tough ozeki run and he needs to be top shape. A 10 win might still be a partial success, but 9-6 will suck.
Cameron Martin
Demonstrating his style of sumo.
Christian Flores
It's been fun, see you guys in November.
Nathan Perry
The absolute state of the top rankers. At least Goeido is always there, mediocre as ever.
Tyler Campbell
Opening the final day with a henka? Come the fuck on. Enho's win was solid. Love seeing him win over heavier rikishi. Terutsuyoshi's was the sloppiest tachi-ai the whole tournament, yet he still managed to win, fucking lmao. Ishiura finishing on a positive record is great news too. >Abi trying to henka on a torinaoshi Shamefur! Okinoumi was pretty strong, but there was nothing he could do to overcome his oponent. Neither could Endo. Tochinoshin went in strong on the tachi-ai, but got spun and pushed out. Too bad, but this was clearly not his tournament. The play-off was good. Both rokishi evenly matched and strong all throughout the tournament. Sure I feel little down for Takakeisho not making it (maybe if it wasn't for the gyoji fuck-up...), but it's not like Mitakeumi wasn't deserving it. Good for him. Cheers!
>Mitakeumi and Abi >Asanoyama (?) and Who? >Enho and Someguy
Andrew Johnson
> Good belt move by Enho. 9 wins. Hes gunning for ichinojo. First day next tournament please Yeah, I think Ichinojo will lose, because he's too tall and most rikishi have real problems against short ones. Tamawashi vs Ishiura was a prime example today. Mind you Takakeisho is short too and that's one of the strongest reasons for his success so far. > Tochiozan fucks up a his henka. 2nd today I feel bad for him. Shown he didn't practice that crap too much. >Kotoyuki has really suprised me this tournament with how good his balance is for his body type Oh man, Kotoyuki has those damn good tsuppari. Too bad he's not so young anymore. >Meisei strong sumo, beats his losing streak, and takes out asanoyama. both 10-5 NO!!! Just NO! Meisei only won because that epitome of loose mawashi and I think was done on purpose. That was a disgrace. Asanoyama to pull that needs to get higher and that's why he lost. Gyoji should have interrupted the match or a monoi should have been called. I mean look at it, mawashi nearly reaches Meisei's shoulder. That is absolutely disgusting. > Takarafuji just to slow to finish hokutofuji when he had him He was out of balance too. > Mitakiumi yusho. Takakeisho shouldn't have tried that pull down twice. not his style of sumo. His style of sumo is just push forward and knows little else. Can;t do his style when he loses tachiai.
John Bennett
Sumo is not considered a sport so take this shit to /jp/
Owen Russell
Tochiouzan deserved to get raped for trying to henka Kotoshougiku.
Jason Perry
Absolutely agree regarding Meisei. It reminded me of last year when Tochi was lifting everybody out of the ring and suddenly people were wearing their mawashi suspiciously loose.
Seething English teacher
Justin Reed
Sumo IS a sport, so shove it up your ass you slant eyed pencil dick.
>i dont like him >must be english teacher The cope is real.
Talk to any Japanese person. They will tell you sumo is not a sport you gigantic weeb
Isaac Perry
>NO!!! Just NO! Meisei only won because that epitome of loose mawashi Yeah, noticed that too. Are there any rules about that, that the refs could act on? If they weren't shit all throughout the tournament, that is.
Yeah in that case it's pretty clear it's because Azumaryu's knot had come undone and it was in danger of falling off completely. But Tobizaru was actually wearing his looser than Azumaryu was, just that his knot didn't come loose. Meisei's was in no danger of coming off, and it's personal preference how tight or loose they want to wear theirs as long as it doesn't fall off. So again, dumb gypsy barges in pretending he knows everything when he knows nothing.
Christopher Wright
cry more ken-sama
Jaxon Parker
Yeah this dumb shitskin here is finally right for once, Knot has to unravel.
Doesn't make Meisei's win less disgusting. Tough if Asanoyama caught more belt strips, he wouldn't had that problem.
Ryder Bailey
>ichinojo will happen next tournament if enho gets kachikoshi. it just has to.
>It's entirely possible.
>Enho. 9 wins. Hes gunning for ichinojo
Ichinojo will be around M12 while Enho will be around M7 they'll not met on the first days, and if Ichi will start posting wins and Enho losses (both really possible) they'll not met in the first week because the score will be too different; the only way to met is in the final days if they are tied in the virtual rankings, that is if they are both aiming to occupy M9 in January; we need Ichi 7-5 and Enho 5-7 with 3 days to go; it's possible, but not bet on it
Brody Martin
It's literally been part of sumo from the very beginning, the only reason why you think it's "disgusting" is because you're fucking retarded taking a metaphorical shit everywhere you go.
Leo Ramirez
hey fucking moron, ask how many are fine with it. Not nips, not anyone likes that crap. But I guess you are fine with it just because I'm not, you cocksucking faggot.
Logan Reed
Yes Mr. Romanian, tell me more about what the opinions are of people you've never met from a country halfway across the world from you.
Levi Roberts
inb4 tu quoque
Zachary Perez
nice henka attempt Abi you fat bitch haahahahahaha
Benjamin Mitchell
>Yes Mr. Romanian, tell me more about what the opinions are of people you've never met from a country halfway across the world from you. If you insist. Here: They think you are a faggot, I tend to agree.
Samuel Johnson
Naruto stable had the best score of the tournament:
>foreign "opinion shaper" thinks he knows more about the people and the sport than the people who actually live there >wants to get rid of an accepted part of sumo because he personally doesn't like it If you hate sumo so much then go back to competitive shit-filled-cart pulling or whatever your national sport is and stop trying to ruin another country's sport.
Julian Carter
faggot, no one likes loose mawashi just like no one likes henka (most of the time). Can I not like loose mawashi, faggot? Can I? YES I CAN and you can't do shit about it, beside being a faggot.
And no, I don't tell nips what they should do with their national sport either. Despite loose mawashi and henka and sometimes wrong decisions, I still watch sumo and not other sport. Got it? Good, now fuck off, Tyrone.
Dominic Butler
>faggot, no one likes loose mawashi Then why in the centuries long history of the sport have they never taken an extremely simple action to mandate a tight mawashi? Answer: because they don't actually give a shit and you're fucking retarded pretending you know anything about a culture on the other side fo the world from you. PROTIP: loose mawashi actually harms the person wearing it if their opponent is good at actual belt grappling, because it makes it easier to get a grip and throw them. If Asanoyama tried doing that instead of going for just lifts then he would've won, so the fault lies in him being a one-trick dipshit and not adjusting during that match.
James Cruz
Yes, he is. Jews are cancer and should be outcast for intentionally stirring up nazi shit.
Funny how the U.S. and Europe makes allies of our enemies while the Jew insists the world holds a grudge solely against THEIR enemies while running a concentration camp in Israel that the world seems to ignore.
FUCK the Jews and their incessant whining.
Parker Anderson
> Then why in the centuries long history of the sport have they never > Thus people like loose mawashi and henkas Proof you're an imbecile.
> If Asanoyama Didn't I just say that earlier, you retard?
Owen Cox
Most Jews around the world don't support Israel either, and Netanyahu happily hops in bed with anti-Jew right-wingers in America and Europe if it benefits him and the powers who rule Israel. You think it's an international Jewish conspiracy, but in reality Israel is a glorified Judenrat and has been ever since it was established.
If they hated them then they would be banned, simple as that. Their continued tolerance clearly shows that the sumo culture and audience accepts the place of both depending on the context. Mawashi tightness is an accepted part of typical sumo gamesmanship that only punishes one-trick idiots. Whining about it just highlights how brainless you are.
Nathan Collins
Mitakeumi is usually pretty healthy I think. Injuries seem to be biggest stumbling back to the top ranks. He could end up Ozeki by default while everyone else keeps getting hurt
Christian Johnson
So Mitakeumi needs 10-5 next basho and Ozeki?
Matthew Parker
You have your OWN faggot board. Use it.
Sebastian Carter
Doubtful, that would give him 31 wins over the past three and nobody's gotten ozeki with 31 since Onokuni back in 1985. Goeido and Kisenosato both got ozeki with 32, but Goeido had two 12 win jun-yushos while Kisenosato had three straight double-digit scores, neither of which Mitakeumi have. Plus "9->yusho->11" is exactly what Takakeisho did in his failed ozeki run, he needed another 10 win performance to finally get it. I wouldn't expect Mitakeumi to get ozeki with anything less than 12 wins.
Oliver Hughes
>9+13+10=32 Nah I don't think so. I think they will not even count the 9 win basho as the start of the ozeki run.
Juan Turner
> If they hated them then > IF Do you even watch sumo? With sound?
Isaac Bell
You mean the sound that let me hear all the fans cheering when Tochinoshin henkaed the fuck out of Kakuryu to get his 10th win and repromotion just a few tournaments ago? Again, context. Smaller wrestling taking on someone bigger, lower ranked wrestler taking on a higher ranked powerhouse, an injustice being righted, especially if a Japanese person is giving and/or a non-Japanese is receiving, henkas are not always hated out of principle, which is why they're not fouls. If they were hated in all situations they would be fouls.
Jordan Perez
The half-Filipino did it! Hopefully Takayasu also comes back next basho.
enho aoiyama match day 1 then. way wrong about ichinojo dropping. was thinking like 9. Just hope that everyone stays healthy, but doesn't look like it for takakeisho. i haven't seen anything reported yet about his arm
Logan Rivera
>ichinojo dropping. was thinking like 9. last time was 13
>Nominal, or "by-the-numbers" rank is what rank they would have if they were moved exactly one rank up for each win and one rank down for each loss or absence.
an alternative is giving S2 to Abi (are you prepared for that?) this would allow more room to avoid another clusterfuck in January
they also can deny K to Asanoyama: it never happened considering the Shukun-Sho; if they go this route, in my banzuke everyone would shift down half rank, so the M16 would be full and other generous promotions I did will look more balanced
in any case, with so many sanyaku fighting each other it's legit to expect a couple of losing records, so the banzuke will be back to normal in January
>if Asanoyama caught more belt strips, he wouldn't had that problem. It's this. I hated to see that shit too but fundamentally this is about getting only one or two loops of the mawashi as opposed to the entire belt. The fundamental issue for Asanoyama was inability to dig his fingers in and get a better grip, Meisei just didn't give him the time/opening to do it.
Liam Ward
Hard same, most fun wrestler to watch for ages.
Bentley Morales
can we keep up the thread 2 more days please? we'll know by then if Asashoryu's nephew landed in Juryo
Michael Brown
aight
Grayson Flores
me too way more exciting to watch than this enho shitter
David Peterson
Doubt it.
Charles Gomez
Is his ring name Asajuryo?
Christian Fisher
>According to stablemaster Chiganoura, Takakeisho suffered a strained left pectoral muscle on Sunday and will require six weeks of treatment. -jpn times
So he can take off as ozeki next basho to heal, and then come back as a kadoban ozeki and get 8. That shouldn't be an issue..
Bentley Morris
Shitbitch McFucksalot, is he ever going to *actually wrestle* at ozeki rank?
Oh well, at least that might make it a bit easier for Tochinoknee to get back again again back to again the rank again from sekiwake in November.
Aaron Martinez
Well I’ll be damned I had no idea there were sumo generals on here
Hunter Davis
Only during a basho and a few days after.
Josiah Ortiz
apparently a Ms5 with 4 wins has an advantage over Ms6 or Ms7 with 5 wins, especially in the last 5 years don't ask me why, I'd prefer the extra win anyway, they pause Makushita for the Juryo ring-entering ceremony, then they do the last bouts; maybe the subgroup Ms1-Ms5 has specific privileges; I can't find the info tho
Wasn't a very good basho but I hope to see you all again.
Daniel Moore
tochi fighting to keep rank, takakeisho to get it back, and enho being enho made it enjoyable enough. Im looking forward to having the ozeki who uses sweat as a defense back next tournament. Maybe evem clean shaven for extra slip
>normal man gets lightly prodded by a rikishi >goes flying off into the wings like a rubber band It was a good reminder of how powerful these guys actually are.
Luke Wilson
The woman at the asian grocery store I like said she touched one of their arms and it was rock hard, unsurprisingly.
Matthew Garcia
>one week old thread being kept alive
just let it die
Lincoln Reyes
from all the pushing, thrusting, and throws, a forearm will be pretty strong and wont carry much fat. they also have low visceral fat, which makes them much more healthy than a typical 400lbs person, granted relatively
Yeah, it's pretty clear just from looking at them. I also read somewhere that the average body fat % of rikishi is about the same as the average body fat % in America.
Kayden Smith
In America, it's normal to look like Aoiyama Oof Lord help me, good grief
Owen Green
start a new brand of sumo that mixes sumo and battle bots. put our 700lbs masses of pure athleticism into electric scooters and see who can push out or knock the other over first.
