It seems like a weird thing to call a kid out for. I understand Kobe wanted to show how this person wasn't "committed to basketball" but that's not true. They just also had something going on at that time.

What if the dance competition was at the National level? It's damn more important than whatever basketball game she would have been playing in.

This was dumb on Kobe's part. The fact that the girl was dancing is irrelevant. It could have been anything, the fact that it's dancing just adds fuel to the fire. But I still don't agree with Kobe, regardless.

If you had to compare the probability that you could make a living off either dance or basketball as a woman, which would you think makes more sense?

Of course, being "friendly" with Kobe has other intangible benefits like potential contacts and whatnot. But unless Kobe is sharing dance contacts, and the parents aren't getting anything from being friendly with Kobe, pursue dance.

I’m sure there are plenty of Rec leagues she’d do fine at.
Also it’s no surprise these girls only managed 4th considering the myopic coaching style guys like Kobe and Jordan employ. They literally think everyone should just be like them and then blame them for not being a hall of fame talent with hall of fame work ethic.
Basically if you need any coaching they can’t coach you.
