>NHK still hasn't fixed the audio quality
Goodbye Yoshikaze ;_;
Enho wins lol
little shitter does it again
>it's another Enho looks unstoppable in the first week episode
salt man will wipe the floor with him
>watching the stream
Kek what a bunch of faggots, i'll just wait for the 20 minute highlights on youtube.
Also, why are all the Ozeki so shit? None of them will ever become Yokozuna or win another basho
Well done by Takakeisho
The absolute STATE of Hakuho. Will he ever win again, bros?
based Hokutofuji brought a lot of salt to the westerno*d sumo sjws
cHRIS gOULD, the eternal delusional butthurt should title his next video "Hokutofuji - The GOATfucker"
was lucky there and almost lost, but he looks like he has a chance at this.
more like Cringe Gould
Why is that britoid subhuman telling japs how they should view their own culture and what it means to be a true japanese? I'm starting to think it's the Anglos and not the jews.
Chris Gould is good lad who provides an excellent service. no bully
That wasn't Hakuho's loss, it was Hokutofuji's win. That nigga always goes full out. Beating Hakuho is a huge win for him since he basically got treated like a bitch by Hak last tourney.
Is everyone going to just skip over tochi being dominated by the fattest one? It wasn't even a match. He's not going to get 8 wins if his sumo stsys like that.
Yeah, once he was inside he wasnt going to let himself get thrown and charged right ahead. i wonder if this will work for other wrestlers
tochi 15 minutes of fame is up
I'm wondering if he'll hang it up if this basho drops him again, or if they force him out. We'll have to see how he fights tomorrow. He's got Asanoyama who beat him pretty easily last tournament.
>tochi going down that easy
Has kaisei finally been shadowrealmed to juryo?
Yeah, East 8
Chiyonokuni is back. After injury, surgery and staying out so many basho. He's now Makushita 46 lol, but he won today. He'll be back in Makuuchi, I know he will.
kek
stealing it btw
yeah bro, couldn't have said it better myself.
fills it with globalshit """opinion shaping""" every chance he gets. Because sumo is a creation of globalism, not of Japan.
So out of the current young rikishi who was the best chance at becomign a yokozuna or are we stuck with Hakuho and Kakuryu for another 5 years?
>Enho
takakeisho would be my guess if he gets ozeki rank back, and i like how the salt man fights, but we have to wait till hes higher ranking to really judge him
Hak will probably retire after the Tokyo Olinbiks next year.
That said, the roster will be totally fucked without him. I imagine that if Kak stays on, there'll be a few years of Kakuryuwinslol.
>5 years
Hakuho will retire after the Olympics
for the next yokozuna, if Tomokaze keeps getting promotions after promotions...
Is Tochinoshin still ozeki?
Yes. He henkaed Kak with dishonorable sumo to get his tenth win two tournaments ago after losing 3 matches he should have easily won, then came back last tournament, got destroyed by everyone and pulled out after losing his first 5 matches. He'll lose it again if he doesn't get 8 wins this tournament, and hes already down 1 and probably another tomorrow.
Hakuho and Kakuryu are both the smae age. and Hakuho said recently that he wants to stay active until 2024 or 25..
Enho is way too small, the most he would achieve would be a komusubi or sekiwake. I agree that Takakeisho is most likely to become a yokozuna but a really bad one like Kisenosato.
Actually fuck it it yokozuna promotion system is kinda fuckign stupid if Kisenosato gets promoted but someone like Kaio doesn't.
Was about to ask, this dude posted basho from like 2000 to 2002, do you fags know of a place of where i can watch the 2003 and 2004 basho(prefferably with english commentary since that britfag said asashoryu would never become a yokozuna and i wanna see him eat his words)?
the already mentioned sumoDB has some videos linked; but many videos got deleted recently so you need patience
i was jokingly mentioning enho. he'll do decent in mid rank, and maybe fluctuate around top M and up to K, but will get his career ended by an injury after getting basically flattened going against someone to big or strong for his dex build
Takakeisho would be better with longer arms. someone in these threads a while back mentioned that good yokozuna can fight on the mawashi, and i agree with that statement. hes just too fat and stumpy to reach and use it effectively. I think he'll still get there though
Thanks, i guess i'll wait a bit more, i actually am a newfag barely getting into sumo this january thanks to Baki, trying to learn as much about it for now.
I actually think a game Ichinojo is better than Takakeisho, sure he is fat but he is taller with longer limbs i doubt the next Yokozuna is even in Makuuchi right now. I just wish more people would follow Chiyonofuji's model and lower their BMI., dude could lift opponents twice his weight.
>i actually am a newfag
Then why the fuck are you bitching about something every post?
Bitching about what? Go fuck yourself you subhuman fucking amerimutt, god fucking dammit you low IQ abominations need to be fucking wiped out.
What the fuck have you subhumans ever done lately beside start wars for Israel and promote your disgusting culture of anal sex, multiculturalism, nigger worship and forcing kids to cut their dicks off through your talmudic media.
I can't wait for your kids to be skinned alive and dismembered by the spics crossing your border as we speak but then again most of you wont notice since you're too busy sucking mutilated jewish dick. Fucking die you piece of shit.
Also i may be a newfag but i still know more about sumo than you, i genuinely hope you and your entire family dies a painful and miserable fucking death.
he'll be back? (too old at 37?)
Sir, this is a Starbucks
its tough being an Abi fan
Oh, can i have a onions latte then?
I don't really see any Yokozuna prospects right now. Most guys seem to favor one or two techniques while both Kak and Hakuho are really good all-rounders. Shit. Even ozeki wise we barely have Takayasu holding on to the rank.
There's a pretty big age gap in the top ranks too. As soon as some of the older guys phase out we might see some real hopefuls
I still think Mitakeumi if he makes ozeki next year or max 2021.
If Goeido makes yokozuna by any chance, I'll be really pissed off.
Goeido is very obviously cruising along at ozeki doing the bare minimum he needs to keep his rank. The wrestlers see what being a yokozuna is like with how they've all been treated by the media and sumo association, and at this stage of his career being a yokozuna is more trouble than it's worth for Goeido.
Is this Chris Gould video based lads?
youtube.com
Oh come on, don't start with that crap. There are expectations of yokozuna, but they can stay out, unlike the rest.
This is about Hakuho, isn't it? JSA and the media should just ignore shit behaviour because "muh yokozuna"? I'm tired of hearing this stupid shit from westerners. Yokozuna have increased privileges and those come with increased responsibility (just like the nobility). I don't see level headed Kakuryu suffer much (unless he sucks too bad in a tournament) from JSA and the media. I see obnoxious Hakuho suffer as he should when he does stupid shit and if you don't agree with this, you're blinded.
Personally. if I was JSA I'd ended Hakuho's career right here:
youtube.com
Getting past that and back to Goeido, he can't Osaka. You can't deny he wants it. Still I don't see a super-Goeido at Osaka. Just the same boring Goeido. Maybe just a tiny little bit more active (and can't stress tiny little bit enough).
You gypsies sure do get mad easily.
How many wins does an Ozeki need to accumulate to maintain rank?
> japs need to "refugee welcome"
> sumo needs to pander to hakuho
> japanese have wrong opinion, my gayjin opinion is better
enough with this butthurt faggot, this thread is about sumo, not about that sjw cunt. I'm even sorry that I brought him up in the first place.
We'll see how Hakuho does the rest of the tournament and then we'll know if he can really 2025 as he boasts.
They need at the very minimum a winning score (8 or more wins) every other tournament.
8
Get demoted after 2 consecutive losing tournaments. They can get promoted back first tournament after demotion if they get 10 wins like Tochinoshin did in May.
If you're talking Takakeisho he already lost ozeki, but when one loses ozeki has a chance to get it back for 10 wins next tournament. Thus if Takakeisho fucks up this tournament and doesn't get 10, he'll have to start again from scratch 33 wins in 2 consecutive tournaments. Then to keep the rank needs as any ozeki to not get makekoshi (loosing record which is less than 8 wins) 2 tournaments in a row.
For example Takayasu stayed out this tournament due to serious injury in the last one. The next tournament needs a minimum of 8 wins. If he doesn't he loses ozeki but has a chance to get it back if he gets 10 wins after that.
Laugh at TochiNOSHOWshin.
*33 wins in 3 consecutive tournaments
I'm not going to even pretend I agree with Gould on most things, but I find it hilarious that you're chimping out over "gayjin opinion" because of someone who lives in Japan, works in Japan, married a Japanese woman and has half-Japanese kids going through the Japanese school system, has literally dined with top division sumo wrestlers, has written and had published books about sumo, and has been following sumo since he was 4, so probably longer than you've been alive. He's foreign born, but he knows more about Japanese culture and sumo culture than you do. Most of his opinions are simply calling out hypocrisy when it comes to violence (literally every sumo wrestler will tell you they've been beaten as punishment while training, people are only punished for it if it becomes a public scandal and especially if it involves a Mongolian) and treating wrestlers who have spent most of their lives in Japan as if they're the same as a foreign tourist. Most of his opinions on actually reforming sumo are rubbish, but you don't need to be a 300IQ honorable sumo elder to call out hypocrisy for what it is.
And still goes against the overwhelming opinion of the native japanese ffs. Do you get that? A fucking GAYjin.
It's like a nigger coming here and giving instructions into what traditions I should give up because he's butthurt and that we need more nigger.
FFS look at the video posted by my countrymen here. The faggot Cringe Gould tells that JAPAN, needs """OPINION SHAPERS""" to tell the "backward yellow man about diversity and such". You can't make this shit up, watch that fucking video. And if you're fine with this, neck yourself. Yeah I'm mad, my blood boils. You know why? BECAUSE I FUCKING WATCH SUMO FOR SUMO, not for muh 2019, muh diversity, muh hakuho's record. No and Chris Gould obviously doesn't like sumo since he wants to change the sport.
Also if I were to emigrate, I'd go for a place that I like, with people that I like and not to COMPLAIN DAY IN AND DAY OUT ABOUT how much change and shitskins that place needs.
>hello I've been watching sumo for two months, let me tell you what your opinions should be
You're even worse, zigeuner
>hello I've been watching sumo for two months
That's me actually, 2 romanians ITT.and been watching it for almost a year now.
I love how in that video he said that "we need to rethink traditional notions of japaneseness" and in response to people in his comment section saying that being Japanese is genetic his only response was "b-but this piece of paper considers him japanese"
Jesus christ Anglos are literally fucking jews. What slimy and subversive fucking lingo
No bitch, I'm watching sumo since Takanohana, Akebono and Musashimaru, but that's beside the point because I'm not the one telling the japs what their opinions should be, Cringe Gould does, dumb faggot.
Did you even read what I wrote? What do you comment about "JAPAN need OPINION SHAPERS to tell the backward nips what to think and like"? How do you comment that? I sincerely ask you. Are you fine with it?
Listen to the shithead from the same fucking video (but you'll find shit like this in most of his videos):
> sumo need to change because multicultural audience
CAN YOU EVEN? Can you get your head around this? Logic fails this dude. Multicultural audience got into sumo in the first place because sumo is how it is. Multicultural audience didn't get into imaginary multicultural globalist sanitized sumo, no. It got into jap sumo, because likes jap sumo. FFS, he's so damn retarded weasel.
Yeah bro, he's a nutjob. Maybe e truly thinks his intentions are good and perceives injustice, but he doesn't think it through and is blinded but either his fantardism or his insane subversive (as you say) ideology.
He's right thought. The Japanese government, elected by the Japanese people and sworn to represent them, says that Hakuho is now Japanese. He has the same rights as any other Japanese man. He can run his own stable when he retires, he can found his own stable, if he stays in long enough he can even eventually become head of the Sumo Association. A Japanese man who is not "ethnically" Japanese can become Prime Minister. All of these things are possible. Japanese society allows it. It's only the stuffy old boomers who keep trying to push back against this.
Calm down cigány, if you have actually watched his videos which I guarantee you actually haven't then you'd know he's actually fond of the traditions and other elements that make sumo distinctly Japanese, he just doesn't give a shit about hypocrisy or the tendency to fluff up relatively new customs as if they're ancient traditions themselves.
> Calm down cigány [...]
sure mutt, ignore everything pointed out and just focus on other things. Nice counter.
He complains almost every other video.
And for the argument
> Cringe gould is not against ancient traditions but against relatively new customs pushed as they're ancient
well, if he was he wouldn't cry so much about "muh poor foreigners". Cause that's not relatively new. In fact relatively new customs only relaxed that shit. Relatively new customs made possible non-jap yokozunas.
>He's right thought
He isn't though
>The Japanese government, elected by the Japanese people and sworn to represent them, says that Hakuho is now Japanese
And your government says that men that cut off their dicks can legally become women, doesn't make it true though(just somewhat funny to see them compete against roasties and BTFO them)
>Japanese society allows it. It's only the stuffy old boomers who keep trying to push back against this.
But Gould himself says int he video that even the most liberal Japanese people aren't willing to accept Hakuho as a japanese, i know this is a hard concept for you to understand being an American and all not sharing an ethnicity,
or common culture besides basic consumerism.with your fellow countrymen.
user, Hakuho is going to run his own stable whether you like it or not. There's a strong possibility he could end up heading the Sumo Association itself a few decades from now. He's certainly the type of person to aim for that. This isn't something that's impossible just because you want to stick your head in the sand. He is, for all purposes relevant to how sumo works, now Japanese. The Japanese government says he is Japanese, the Sumo Association agrees he is now Japanese, if decrepit boomers want to whine about it then that's their problem. This is simply the reality of present day society, even in Japan. The ideas of what makes someone "Japanese" are changing, and sumo culture is going to have to deal with it or become further irrelevant.
> Hakuho heading JSA.
> not happening
Look at Takanohana today. JSA wanted to cover up that mong and Takanohana gone to police, thus they bin'd him. And that was Takanohana, greatest nip hero yokozuna since Chiyonofuji, not some poor fuck.
And then stupid westerno^d imbeciles cry "muh JSA tries to coverup japs, but poor foreigners". Ignorant imbeciles. They fucked up Takanohana for the mong yokozuna Harumafuji
> BUUUUT MUUH FOREIGNEEEEERS
EAT SHIT RETARDED IGNORANTS
ENHO DOES IT AGAIN
THE ABSOLUTE CHAD
Sad to see tochinoshin implode like this
I love sumo but hate romanians and wish they were still rangebanned. what do?
>hakuho
>GOAT
Ceci n'est pas un japonais
youtube.com
look at what they did to my boy
>tfw i think i already missed it
when's day 2
now
For anyone curious, that was the first day 1 kinboshi not involving Kisenosato since Takanohana lost to Tamakasuga in November 1999. He'd finish that tournament with an 11-4 jun-yusho, losing to yusho winner Musashimaru in the final day.
this is the dangerous game the elders were playing. hoktofuji has always been explosive and scary early on and they kept slamming him into yokozuna's every basho on the first day.
What the fuck, he didn't look injured before or after it.
I guess his pride was
>"""""""""GOAT"""""""""
I thought it was a right knee injury at first cause he landed kinda weird on his right leg, it was basically straightened when he fell to the ground
turns out he's saying he injured his pinky
Everything's gonna be alright Hakuho. Just hang in there for 11 more months, after the Olympics is over you can retire. I know you're hurt and your body isn't the same as it's used to and father time is undefeated but GANBATTE!!~~~
you can go back in the yt stream to watch Hoshoryu if you have missed it (speaking of next yokozuna hopefuls)
if he gets another kinboshi today you'll see some 200 pillows flying not 2 or 3 like yesterday
It's time to stop watching sumo lad, sorry but i'm only going to make your threads worse.. Nothing makes me happier than taking away any joy from an amerimutt.
Yes many Romanians are gypssies and pretty subhuman but you shouldn't be talking as americans aren't even people just a mongrelized low IQ group of freaks that only exists as a golem for Israel.
Just got around to catching up Aki day 1 and have to say, some very nice performance from Enho. Fella stood strong even tho his initial plan didn't work out and still managed to down a heavier rikishi. Guy's got some great future in front of him.
Terutsuyoshi did good too. I always like when a smaller rikishi manages to win against a lard ass.
Tamawashi trying to eject himself from the dohyo was really silly even for him. Hopefully he'll sort his shit out for the rest of the tournament lmao.
Is Abi partaking in Chiyotaikai Univeristy courses or something? He's got nice reach and it's about time he start using it for the mawashi imho.
Takakeisho looks like a beast. Is that a yusho challenge right there?
Solid effort by Asanoyama. Shitty effort from Tochinoshim.
Hokutofuji v Hakuho was a good bout. Maybe it's a bit too early to say this, but:
>become Japanese
>turn to shit
Oh man was Hakuho mad about the loss lmao.
Sorry for making it this long. Been starving for some sumo so that's that. Next reports won't be such large.
Cheerio.
>Hokutofuji v Hakuho was a good bout. Maybe it's a bit too early to say this, but:
Hakuho has withdrawn from this basho.
Can he climb the ranks with solid, tournament-in tournament-out, 8-7 records?
What? Guy seems to be pretty levelled, did he post something new? I mean, if it's beyond his Tochinoshin-Asanoyama butt itch, that is. And if it's not, didn't come off as bad to me.
He's got solid fundamentals, but needs to step his game up.
L M A O
M
A
O
For real tho, it's a shame, I like him and top ranks need to be present at tournaments, else some mid table shitter is going to be winning those and that's awful, innit.
>broken finger
Ah fer fucks sake.
And Tochinoshin still hasn't fixed his bum knee. I'm sorry for your loss, Mr. Georgian.
Nope he's retiring. He will become a sumo elder, though, once his retirement ceremony happens.
With his long arms, he really needs to utilize that reach and grab for the belt more. Give him another year of seasoning and he might start an Ozeki run.
Tomokaze, to me, is looking like the most well-rounded possible Yokozuna candidate. I don't think that his kachi-kochi streak will last into 2020, but some losing will toughen him up.
>tochinoshit
kek
Is the era of mongolians over? Seems that most of the young rikishi are nips again.
Fuck, meant for
- Another nice win by Enho against Meisei
- Salt boy Terutsuyoshi got BTFO by Okinoumi pretty easily.
> Kotoshogiku loses again
- My boy Ryuden loses too. It was close though.
- Tomokaze loses easily to Endo
- My other lad Mitakeumi manages to win against Daiesho, but it was not easy. Not the best form for Mitakeumi at the start of this basho.
- Takakeisho easy win against Aoiyama
- my poor Ichinojo loses to that fag Goeido
- Tochinoshin loses again. He looks bad bros. Asanoyama on the other hand looks like he improved a lot. These 2 bouts looked better than in that tournament he won.
- my final boy, Hokutofuji gets smoked by Kakuryu
there is a mong hopeful in Makushita that might grow into something inbetween Kakuryu and Hakuho. But these new nips are strong. Nonetheless the only mong I'm a fan of is Ichinojo and all other mongs (aside from Kakuryu) can go to hell.
Wait, did Ishiura just do an Enho? Lmao.
Good win for Enho, but I still have some objections to his on-dohyo form (and his lack of mass).
Mitakeumi v Daieisho - bout of the day. Good intensity, good offensive sumo and some nice defences.
And here we are, with Goeidio able to control his bout against Ichinojo, whilst Tochinoshin just colapses. Very sad state of affairs. And the Asanoyama fight shows that there's no fight left in your old Tochinoshin. Don't really want to see him destroyed like that, maybe it would be best if he retired now?
>I'm a fan of is Ichinojo
Seems to be kinda limited, he's big, but not much beyond that. What exactly do you like about him?
Tochi 0-2
Hakuho 0-2
Kotoshogiku 0-2
Aoiyama 0-2
Time for these boomers to retire
Is it Ichinojo's time to shine?
Watch out Tochiazuma Tochi's coming for that record haha
Day 3 bouts. Salt man getting btfo was disappointing
Tochi's knee looked strong in todays bout, just in the wrong position against. He can probably get his 8 wins if he stays healthy. Hokutofuji will be a rough match though.
Hakuho pulled out, and it doesn't really matter for yokozuna
I have such a mostly irrational hatred for Abi. I think its his sumo where hes always on his toes with that foward lean into his pushing/thrusting attack. Makes me think of women slap fighting eachother.
>Can he climb the ranks with solid, tournament-in tournament-out, 8-7 records?
He can get as high as sekiwake doing this (eventually) but going up through the ranks means he'll face steadily better competition which means he still needs to get steadily better just to get the 8 wins.
Also ignore the subhuman gypsy weebs, they found something to distract from their miserable lives so now they want to pretend they know more about a sport halfway around the world than people who actually live in Japan and talk to sumo wrestlers regularly.
So with Hakuho withdrawing, all the Ozeki either performing like shit or not participating i guess this will be another KakuryuwinsLOL basho? Well i like him more than Hakuho anyways so i'm cool with it.
*AHEM*
>likes Lumpenstein
>the GOAT can go to hell
-8/10 taste lad
He's shown in two different tournaments that he can learn new tricks and know how to use them. Remember when he pulled down all the tournament and was a contender for the yusho? Those were some of the best timed pulls. And not done once, but in majority of bouts for a whole freaking tournament. The very next tournament he shown yet another weapon which was some deadly tsuppari. Not yet perfected, but were awesome. He also looks calm, undisturbed all the time. The only downside is that he's stupid too.
> all the Ozeki either performing like shit or not participating
Goeido does well, he's still lame though.
If Tochinoshin's knee wasn't fucked he would be a yokozuna easy.
> easy
as a one-trick pony?
Has a 1-27 record against Hakuho, 4-23 against Kakuryu and negative records against all other ozeki.
Physically he is the strongest by far and his technique is decent. If his knee is good (which it hasn't been for 7+ years) a solid mawashi grip is an easy win for him.
Also his last win against Kakuryu came from a henka.
enho vs ichinojo is a fight im looking forward to
it was good enough to get him to ozeki last year, which wouldn't happen if it was completely fucked.
Good enough =\= good. If there was some way to fully recover his knee he would be winning all the time.
Basically Tochinoshin just had a very lucky 2018, all the stars aligned like injuries, circumstances like Harumafuji forced to retire and just generally a weaker field that he got to Ozeki in the first place. Because for the longest the guy was floundering in the maegashira ranks and it looks like he has outstayed his welcome as Ozeki
Damn user, i knew Tochifags were deluded but you take it to a whole new level. Not even a healthy Tochinoshin is Yokozuna level.
7+ years ago was more or less evenly matched with Kotoshogiku, the latter having a slight 2-3 win lead.
Also higher ranks know how to deal with Tochi's move. In order to get his grip they'd force him to bend his upper body down thus his point of balance would be way too forward.
It wouldn't have been such a problem if he was shorter,
His technique has greatly improved since then, which is how he's still such a high rank even with his fucked knee. Sadly, I doubt we'll ever know how good Tochi can be with his current skill level and working legs.
Maybe improved until got ozeki and one tournament after that. He still can't get any shorter no matter how much "improves".And doesn't learn thrusting which would have helped him a lot. Nonetheless, he is old now and the time is past.
> I doubt we'll ever know how good Tochi can be with his current skill level and working legs.
I was thinking yesterday that maybe he should give it all for an 8-7 and then have some surgery, stay out until full recovery and try to get ozeki again or maybe even yokozuna. But he's almost 32 yo and as I mentioned lack in more than one wrecked knee. I see him as another Kotoshogiku, himself an has been one trick pony plagued by injuries and old age.
Chris Gould's narration reminds me of Ringo Starr from Thomas the Tank Engine
I really want to disagree but I don't think I can. I wish he would retire as Ozeki instead of dropping rank.
Anyone else see this sick throw Enho pulled off in some exhibition match last August?
there was even 1-2 of this kind in competitions.
From a retirement standpoint it doesn't matter, he'll always be "ex-ozeki" even if he somehow drops all the fuck the way back to fucking Jonokuchi before he actually retires. Of course that won't actually happen, but it wouldn't surprise me if he tries to squeeze out a few more years in the top division before retiring even if he drops from ozeki, like Kotoshogiku.
impossible to know if he's awake or not

I don't think he needs that. He's set for life in Georgia. Even if he were to sell toilet paper he'd probably make a fortune lol.
He won't retire.
He has said that he'll keep going as long as he can stand on the dohyo.
A lot of guys say that, but at some point the pressure to save face will be too much. He may be Georgian but undoubtedly his stablemaster and supporters club will have considerable influence. Neither of them will want to see a broken down hobbling Tochinoshin barely clinging on to a top division position.
So who is the Flip hype? Mitakeumi? Takayasu? Kotokuzan? Ichinojo?
Beginning:
twitch.tv
Jungyo is the reason half of the top division st any one time are fighting hurt when they should be healing.
well done Kaisei!
Chiyonokuni won
Gagamaru won
Tapeman Kaisei won
>Remember when he
No, not really, sorry mate. Might be the case that I only recently got back to sumo, since when Eurosport coverage stopped back in the early 00's, so I can only comment on what I see and, frankly, I don't see Ichinojo as anything but big fatso. He does look unfazed at all times, I'll give you that.
On the other hand, he is, like, the only lardass that is consistent. Manboobs and Kaisei are jobbing left and right, yet Ichi is on his level.
This shit looks staged.
He barely does as we speak. Tochinoshin's going to retire this or the next tournament when they carry him off on a stretcher, innit.
Goeido is too fucking old. He's on his way out much less in any kind of running for Yokozuna
So what are the chances of Hakuho breaking all the records he did if Asashoryu wasn't forced to retire? Hakuho was still winning most of their bouts from 2008-2010.
He's doing well.
Enho v Kotoyuki is the bout of the tournament (so far) - great intensity and mobility by both rikishi. Quite honestly I'm impressed by how agile the heavier of two was. And a yorikiri against a guy twice your size? Impressive!
Tochinoshin looked prety good today too. I mean, he didn't look like an animated corpse anymore and had the strength to fight. Still sloppy with the tachi-ai and failing to grip the mawashi early on, but it worked out in the end. Wonder if he can keep the form up for the entirety of the tournament, tho. Good defence on the rope there by Hokutofuji too, so it's not like he just let Tochi win or anything. Solid bout.
Endo v Goeido was a great bout too.
Enho's save today was pretty ridiculous.
tochi looked on point against hokutofuji. hell be fine if he can keep up that sumo
>This shit looks staged.
Of course it's staged, it's an exhibition tour, the point is to make local crowds happy.
I blame his usual bad form on his stable. Doesn't manage his weight well enough. Who knows, maybe you'll get the chance to see him be awesome, maybe you'll not. Either way I'm cheering for him.
> Goeido on his way out
May Amaterasu hear you.
He's fucking 33 years old. Maybe has 2 years in him tops
How does he do it bros
This guy will be finished within 2 or 3 years.
What channel posts Juryo? I really enjoyed Yago's sumo when he visited Makuuchi.
Thanks!
I'm only seeing a few matches a day on here when the grand sumo app has more than that listed.
Yeah true
They used to post whole juryo that they filmed themselves

genuine question: why is this on spee?
Sports go on the sports board.
but its not a sport?
It's easily one of the longest running professional sports in the world, just because the prematch festivities are based on Japanese Shinto rituals doesn't change that.
This channel streams from the beginning.
I just saw, they have the videos of the days still up.
so, you can rewatch them all here

Absolutely pathetic bait. Take your (You) and leave.
Wow, this guy doesn't label anything. Thanks, guess I'll just skim the video.

Kaishu, huh. By the looks of things he's been spinning his wheels in the lower divisions for three years, wonder if he'd be better if he could gain some mass.
Who is the superior small guy - Enhou or Ura?
I don't think anyone would argue that Tochinoshin is as great as two of the greatest rikishi in history. Just that he's good enough to hold the title of yokozuna.
Bruh if Kisenosato didn't make yokozuna until 2017 when he was easily better in 2013 and 2016 then Tochinoshin isn't good enough to be yokozuna ever. You can't use injuries as an excuse when literally everyone deals with injuries, otherwise Hakuho would 15-0 literally every tournament until the heat death of the universe.

Holy hell, just retire at this point.
There's absolutely no reason why he can't make a heroic recovery and surge back up to makuuchi. That's what a hero does, and Ura is a hero.
To me, at least.
>You can't use injuries as an excuse
I'm not trying to even address injuries.
The point which I mean to express is that the public eye's standards for yokozuna have skyrocketed in recent decades due to the emergence of three or four monumentally superior stars. I'm saying that rikishi aiming for yokozuna oughtn't have their fitness for that role recognized by means of measuring their performance against the performances of these recent 'all-time-greats' yokozuna. I'm saying that guys like Futahaguro and Yoshibayama existed. They aren't representative of the average yokozuna nor should they be treated as such; nevertheless, they were 'enough' to be granted that title.
He's bearly consistent enough to hold ozeki. He'll also get in ruts like Ichinojo, and just lose because he gave up. It's almost like he needs some sort of externa pressure, like losing rank and gaining it back, to be good.
>Hakuho would 15-0 literally every tournament until the heat death of the universe.
I laughed at that harder than I should have. Truly lolhakuhowins
Lets start with tochi wining back to back tournaments first. He's only ever won one
The counterargument is that they're only "monumentally superior" because everyone else is monumentally inferior. People will still claim Hakuho wouldn't even make ozeki in the mid-to-late 90s. Chiyonofuji is still considered the greatest of all time by a significant number. Taiho was setting all the records in his day that Hakuho broke in his. And the only reason why Futahaguro was promoted in the first place is there was a surge of quality ozeki right behind him, so the argument was that being the best of that crop was good enough to be yokozuna. Meanwhile Tochinoshin's ozeki run came after years of ping-ponging back and forth, and at a time when the top of the banzuke was wracked with injuries, and he's ping-ponged since. He deserves credit for making ozeki, I'd agree he deserves that much, but he shouldn't be in the conversation for "yokozuna-quality" ever.
Speaking of Taihou's records: do we know how long Taihou's *real* winning streak lasted? If we ignore the verifiably miscalled defeat, did he keep winning without another loss for any significantly long time after that?
when's the next day of matches happening. please respond.

Fucking boomers, Hakuho clearly has better technique and strength than Takanohana, not even a fan of Hakuho but to claim that he isn't one of the greatest Yokozuna is pure delusion
Is that nigga Endo finally realizing his potential? He seems to be finally getting a clue
if Takakeisho keeps his form, hell win this basho.
Endo had a good bout again. He is nice to watch, since most of his fights are pretty entertaining.
He's always given entertaining bouts where he does ballerina balancing acts to wow the crowd but could never turn it into Ws, until now.
Again an anti-Tochi monoii
>not amused
fuck this semen slurping """sport"""
>destroyed
The judges really don't like Tochi.
Would be nice if they could make it less obvious.
Abema didn't have the specific angle.
NHK replay showed that he did pull his oicho mage at the end even though there was no need for it.
So fair call in the end.
Tochi has to blame himself in this situation.
How can you fuck up so badly?
Nevertheless, they've ignored more than one outright hairpull in the past 3 days. Why is Tochinoshin the one to be called on it?
>Kaisei
L M A O
Ishiura showed some good form today. Same did Enho, tho Shohozan's grip was too strong. Very exciting bout.
That on-rope reversal by Endo was quite impressive.
>hairpull
Well, at least he looked good apart from that.
Aoiyama looks like he has completely forgotten what sumo is and how to do it
Bad times for the big boy
Even accidental hairpulls are pretty much always called against the rikishi that did it, this isn't especially anti-tochinoshin
Bad day. Out of all my bois only Mitakeumi won.
>The guy who henkaed and still lost
Takakeisho is looking like he's going back to ozeki. Maybe even win the tournament.
Endo has had consistently good sumo for the last few tournaments, even if his record for the last two doesn't reflect it. Get 11 or 12 wins this tournament and hes got a shot at ozeki.
Enho almost squated him , it would be interesting to see like a fireman's throw from him.
Tochi didn't even need to pull the hair to win, needs better situational awareness and let it go when he feels it. Doesn't even look like he attempted to let go.
He pisses me off a bit with his sumo. One of the heaviest guys, and is always resorting to backpedaling pull downs.
oh roboto-chan.
He was so fun to watch.
>Takakeisho is looking like he's going back to ozeki. Maybe even win the tournament.
That guy is going full-mad. Maybe sitting out last basho helped him and he is the most healthy guy of all right now.
I bit worried of Ichi. He looked bit shaken after the match today.
It for sure helped him be able to come back this strong.
>Worried of Ichi
I would be too. All 224kg of him landed on his arm. He's also started with the high ranking guys, and I wouldn't be suprised if he pulled out or continued to do bad. He's always had a hard time pulling himself back together to win after some demoralizing losses.
Day 5
Tochi should pick up one against Tomokaze.
Hokutofuji and Takakeisho should be a good match unless hoku gets beaten on the charge.
Endo should pick up a win against Aoiyama with how bad Aoiyama has been doing.
Salt-guy again lost.
But at least he still delivers a good fight.
Why is Tochinoshin such shit? Boi should just retire already.
Got injured, didn't rest, got worse.
Retiring is stupidity but accepting rank loss and resting would be wise.
What is an ISP match?
His oyakata wouldn't let him do that in a million years.
>Kakuryu vs Asanoyama
That's going to be exciting.
>That's going to be exciting.
Asanoyama gets a slap and goes back to school.
Asanoyama was really good in May, did something go wrong in July?
15-0 Takakeisho yuusho incoming
well, he had instantly to fight the best guys ( I think the 2 yakuza were his first opponents) than came the ozeki, etc.
He got kinda cucked the hard way.
But there were matches, when he really showed some good sumo.
He isnt bad, but I think he is a bit overrated.
The fights were pretty bad-ass so far, so I wouldnt be surprised.
It's just something for a sumo fantasy game forum, not anything official.
isp.sumogames.de
Lol settle down fucking Romania.
Romania has literally contributed nothing to the entirety of human existence, except apparently useless racist antisemetic fucks like you.
Also this is a sumo thread wtf is a Romanian doing in a sumo thread. Shouldnt you be concerning yourself with not being a third world country anymore
Ichinojo held up really well against Kakuryu today. He's only 26, I think he has a shot at Yokozuna as long as he keeps improving and stays focused. That 14-1 a few bashos ago is proof of concept in my opinion, I really believe in 4 or 5 years he might get there. I expect Ozeki at least.
May tournament was rigged from start to finish
>accepting rank loss
>His oyakata wouldn't let him
mind is as important as physical condition; "surrender" is never an option in a fighting sport, period; of course a physical problem could weak the mind, so you should rest; but the other way around can lead to a disaster where the mind is never ok and the body get worse instead of healing
sorry for Engrish
>May tournament was rigged from start to finish
lol okay retard
youre the guy who thinks theres a scripted story arent you
This usually happens with maegashira tournament winners unless they're at the very top, because they don't actually face any sanyaku competition until they've already gotten double digit wins, and by that point they can luck out on fluke wins, fluke losses by other frontrunners, injured guys, and a thin field to eke out a fluke yusho. So for Asanoyama specifically, he didn't fight anyone in sanyaku until heelgate against Tochinoshin in day 13, then beat Goeido, then lost to Mitakeumi, while also taking advantage of Toch henkaing Kakuryu out of his ass to get back to ozeki, which he wouldn't have done had he gotten that 10th win against Asanoyama. Contrast that with Tochinoshin's own yusho, where he certainly benefited from two yokozuna and a komusubi being injured, but for him he not only faced all six remaining sanyaku but beat all but Kakuryu. This is why it's also important not to get hyped up on any maegashira frontrunners midway through a tournament (like Okinoumi right now) because they're not facing top competition and the expectation is that they'll eventually fade as they get matched against better dudes.
I know hurr durr national pride gotta have a Jap winner is the justification for saying it was rigged, but had Toch beaten Asanoyama and still beaten Kakuryu we would've had a three-way playoff, which would've been infinitely preferable from a business standpoint to having the tournament decided a day early.
An aggressive and hungry mindset is important, but recklessly pushing injuries is nothing but stubborn, and unfortunately stubbornness is extremely common in sumo. Tochi could easily bang out another 4 years in the top division but it doesn't take much to Ikioi himself and be gone permanently. Not to mention that there's a point where repeatedly losing is even worse than not trying at all.
>heelgate
lol
> Romania has literally contributed nothing to the entirety of human existence
Did more than dindu nuffins like you.
This. And proves that his statement
> muh may tournament was rigged from start to finish
Is total bullshit.
And about Asanoyama, he still moves better now than he moved in that yusho he won.
His back already fucks him.
I dont think he will even get ever close to Ozeki.
Yeah, I remember, salt-guy was also a 'candidate' for winning the last basho, since he had a pretty good run along the Maegashira-feeld.
>no fight vs yakuza
>no ozeki at all at the basho
but suddenly lost again some higher-ranked Maegashira
that would have been a pretty big joke if he had won
I wonder if the rikishi have ever some security-concerns by giving out their fingerprints ...
chernozhopy SEETHING
>He's only 26
>I really believe in 4 or 5 years he might get [yokozuna]
Buddy, Kisenosato was the first guy since Asahifuji to reach yokozuna after 30 and look at what happened to him. Asahifuji himself lasted even less as yokozuna. 26 is not young for a combat sport. Even ozeki would be a stretch with how he's been looking.

I just went back to watch Shiraishi: I'm curious about his next promotion because he gained only few ranks last time; it was unfair considering that one of the 2 defeats was against Terunofuji
Ichinojo out.
Man, look at all those pillows.
When was the last time we had something like that?
>Endo
Dunno, he gets lotsa cheers from the crowds, but was, like, underperforming for all that hype. He and Abi are below their potential imho.
>Enho
But isn't Shohozan just too big for that?
>Tochinoshin
It was really sloppy.
He's a beast. Hoping for him to do best.
Very good post.
Yoshikaze retirement has been confirmed
Just got done jacking off to some videos of women blasting HUGE fucking farts (like 10 seconds plus) brehs, did I miss anything?
Wow!
Kaku lost!
Yutakayama had two impressive saves before losing
Enho with an easy win
Salt mans done this tournament
Okinoumi is a suprising at 5 and 0
Ichinojo is out, I was right calling it yesterday
Endo with another win, solid one to.
Takakeisho vs Hokutofuji was a good match, the mad lad is going back to ozeki
Fuck Abi. Everyone should just slip him like that
Tochi win
Yeah. He missed the throw once, dont think he should have gone for it again right by the edge.
Abi is, but i dont think hes got anything but that shoving attack. Endo seems to recently be able to fight people well based on their tendencies. Todays match is a good example. Know moobs would try a push down, so all his approaches were balanced and slowish. Tomorrow will be a test against takakeisho.
Ishiura on good form again. Love seeing him do well. Is he Hakuho's pupil too?
Enho's pull-and-dodge on the rope was very nice. Double so when you consider the weight difference.
Jesus, Aoiyama is just painful to watch. How can he be so big and at the same time not able to carry that mass at all? The only time he moves forward is when he exits the dohyo after a bout lmao.
Takakeisho? Now that's a rikishi who one can enjoy watching. Beast mode enabled, 15-0 yusho incoming.
>Abi
Ugh.
>Tochinoshin
Treading on thin ice there.
>kids cheering for Kagayaki

To be quite honest with ya fellas, didn't think Asanoyama had it in him to pull off a win over a yokozuna. Sure, it wasn't the better of the two, but it's not like Kakuryu is a jobber or something, still has that yokozuna form in him and he had a perfect score up to that bout. Nice.
And would you look at that, pillows were thrown.
Endo would need to pull some really good sumo to stand against TakaBEAST. Don't really think he has it in him, tho.
Abi could be doing a lot, instead of that one trick that doesn't even work half the time. At least good old Chiyotaikai was consistent with it.
Don't think for a minute I think Endo is going to win against Takakeisho, especially so with how powerful takakeisho is this tournament. Endo has a chance to prove himself a bit if he can put up a fight, or turn it into a good bout instead of just getting blasted out of the ring in less than 3 seconds.
>Enho's pull-and-dodge on the rope was very nice
Allways entertaining to watch. I never liked that little worm, but I must admit, he has something.
Probably Hakuho has much effort on him.
>Aoiyama is just painful to watch. How can he be so big and at the same time not able to carry that mass at all?
I see this at Gaga in the lower division all the time. He hardly cant get on the rink.
Maybe the time for over-weight guys is indeed over.
>Beast mode enabled, 15-0 yusho incoming.
Yeah, Kaisei had this somo 2-3 bashos before as well, and now he is fucking around a division lower. But as I said before, he is a candidate for the champ this time. He delivers really good sumo.
>Abi
Since his henka-faggotry I hate that guy!
>Tochinoshin
6 to go
>To be quite honest with ya fellas, didn't think Asanoyama had it in him to pull off a win over a yokozuna.
Neither me, but since the last basho I see, that the 'elders' put him always the hardest guys at the beginning. I think someone sees in him a youkuzuna.
Beating Kaku today made some guys even convince ....
>Endo would need to pull some really good sumo to stand against TakaBEAST.
I like Endo, because he can recover from the worst situations and is as entertaining as Enho. But I want the BEAST to win this basho, so it will be probably the highlight of tommorow.
Hoping Hokutofuji catches a break from this point forward. He's only fought guys ranked above him and doing pretty bad, apart from slaying Hakuho on day 1.
Also feel like pure shit just want him back x
I am sad Ichi retired from this basho!
nooooooooo tomokaze. his last two bouts have been pathetic
Didn't he say he wanted to get to 40?
retired from all? No chance he might get back later on as did in the past?
nahh ... he retired from basho. shoulder or something.
Shohouzan is crazy fast and agile for his size and age.
Tochi learned a new trick! Good for him.
>5'12"
Did Kintamayama die?
He posted on sumoforum that he'll slowly cease to post highlights.
He has wanted to stop for some time and now that natto is doing his thing it's a perfect opportunity.

Will we ever see a sumo wrestler do well in MMA
Sumo and MMA have almost no overlap. Sumo you force a guy out or force a guy to the mat. MMA you can't force someone out and forcing someone to the mat does nothing and can end up making them more dangerous depending on their skillset. There's just no real skill overlap despite them both being combat sports. And that's without getting into the fact that if a sumo wrestler gets into MMA it's because either a) they sucked at sumo, b) they retired from sumo which means they're worn down (like Akebono), or c) they got forced out due to scandal. The minuscule number of guys in category C could hypothetically do well, but they're basically retraining from scratch since sumo provides pretty much no MMA foundation.
>sumo provides pretty much no MMA foundation.
Sumo is the absolute best standing grappling sport (assuming we don't count Bokh). There is at least one book on practical application of sumo in mma. The issue isn't the lack of carryover, it's just the lack of ground game and the fact that sumo doesn't account for striking.
The practical form and usefulness of standing grappling between sumo and MMA are so night and day there really is no point comparing them.
Fair enough. Most of the throws that can be used in mma are taught in judo anyway.
Sumo is definitely not the best standing grappling sport, unless you're excluding any other grappling sports that continue when you hit the ground. Thats some baki level of retardedness. Sumo has open palm striking, so its not like they're untrained.
How would a World's Strongest Man competitor fare in the world of sumo?
>Sumo is definitely not the best standing grappling sport unless you don't include not standing
going to japan for a month next year before/during the olympics (mid july to mid june, are there tournaments during that time and how much do tickets normally cost for ok seats?
considering those guys can barely move, not well

>before
isn't that the key word
>implying you lose ALL physical skills you developed for a previous sports
>implying mobility isn't a skill for strongman anyway
woah, a total non argument... woah.
What the fuck are you talking about?
your being too stupid to comprehend what was said is also not an argument. come on. try harder, little guy.
Wrestling and judo start standing. Discounting their standing portion because the sport also has a ground aspect is retard. Sumo one of two standing grappling sport I can think of, the other being mongolian wrestling, and you could make a case its better since theres no mawashi.
You basically saying that basketball is the best sport where you have 5 people per team that play 4 quarters of putting a ball through the hope for 2 or 3 points, but sometimes 1.
just google the schedule, but the july tournament should be in nagoya. tickets sell out quickly. I waited too late and had to buy them as part of a tour.
they move better than all the people at their size. Shaw was 200kg last wsm, cutting to 180

>implying mobility isn't a skill for strongman anyway
if mobility is such a skill for strongmen, then why did you invoke his playing basketball
He was strengthening his argument that Shaw's mobility gained from basketball was maintained in strongman partially because you dont lose all your skills moving from one sport to another and strongman itself requires mobility.
i thogout that you guys werent going to do an thread beacuse when i came to see first day there wasnt no stream here
glad that you guys did
I think Takakeisho stepped on gyoji's foot
Did you guys always exist on Yea Forums or were you moved from another board?
Guys I just wanted to say I estimated how many unique posters had posted on this general that I've never been to before and I had it exactly right at 76. This is my best achievement this year. That is all
bruh
Is that supposed to be Tochi?
if Okinoumi will lose tomorrow we have a chance to see 8 rikishi tied at the top with 6 wins each; Enho is 0-3 against Tsurugisho tho, that will be tough
also, I've very little faith in Tomokaze sending home Kakuryu, so the yusho is still incredibly open; if you have access to some betting Jap websites I'd like to know the odds right now
yeah
they always came as long i know
Yea Forums is an weeb area so people carry weeb stuffs to other boards, me for exemple, sometimes i post about Japanese Baseball hereon Yea Forums
Yeah, you can see in replays that his knee gives out right as the gyoji moved his foot out from under him, not the best way to lose a bout.
Was this the one who fell off the ring?
Kaisei isnt coming back, banished. Only 4-2, not looking good, and now possibly injured
Enho had another fun bout to watch and another win
Salt man gets a much needed win
Okinoumi to 6-0
I'll miss Chiyotairu's antics when they banish him if he keeps fighting like he is
Ryuden loss was his own fault. Even kotoeko was suprised
Aoiyama's first match winning the charge, and he cant keep his balance. 0-6 now
Mitakeumi might be a real contender for this yusho
Endo win. Fuck this goyji, but takakeisho shouldn't need to do slap downs against endo, for fucks sake.
Asanoyama makes goeido into a jobber on his road to ozeki. Fucking goyji falling off the ring
The absolute state of tochinoshin. Half way to two times in one year. Thats probably a record that hakahou doesn't have atleast.
LolKakuryulosses. Fucking Daieisho.
I hope this guy has to commit sudoku for his shit. Fucks up a match for someone trying to get his rank back and falls out of the ring.
best that i can tell
The ring dive was divine punishment
i would say he fell on ichinojo, who then ate him as a pre-match snack if he was still in this basho
Ishiura's tachi-ai was wonky as fuck. Lucky to pull off that win.
Another great win for Enho and a tough bout too. Sure he fought heavier rikishi, but did he fight taller ones? Absolutely amazing.
Both Ryuden and Kotoeko thought they've lost L M A O.
Shodai v Tomokaze should've been a rematch, tho.

>Kaisei isnt coming back, banished. Only 4-2, not looking good, and now possibly injured
Yeah, looks like his shoulder.
>Enho had another fun bout to watch and another win
If a Maegashira has that result like Enho now, isnt he supposed to fight against a BIG guy?
I remember last basho, when salt-guy had his run-through and there were voices, which stated, that he should have a fight against an ozeki. Of course all ozeki was out ...
>Ryuden loss was his own fault. Even kotoeko was suprised
Was funny how confused they were. Koto even wanted to leave without his envilopes.
Tochinoshin - Tamawashi should have been a rematch in my opinion.
>The absolute state of tochinoshin
Looked to me like his bad knee gave/didn't allow him to put all the weight on it and lift the other leg as he intended. But maybe I'm looking too much into it.
Its clear as day on the reply
I think you're looking into it too much. Its becoming pretty apparent he doesn't have good enough ring awareness with the heelgate, this one, and i think he had a similar loss earlier. We can't just keep blaming an injury thats over a year old. It hinders him, but its not going away it looks like, so he needs to figure out how to fight around it
Natto had a better view, and a close up of his embarrassment for a split second
have you heard of shini tai?
yeah, but i wouldnt apply it here when tom O'washi was in control and forcing tochi back for the whole match. He made a final diving push rather than just fall on the ground.
I want Ichinojo vs Enho so bad
Takakeisho's foot webm
The very beginning of that webm has, what seems to me as, Tochi trying to put his weight on his bad leg, straighten it and twist, thus lifting his other leg and giving Tamawashi time to land out of the bout zone first; but before it all can happen the knee buckles and his other leg goes down to support himself. Only noticeable in slo-mo, so it could be a billion other things and I may be completely off.
All that being said doesn't change the fact that Tochinoshin was in defence from the bout's start and the injury kicking-in in the last second changes very little.
Some wonkery here too. His foot slides backwards but his body seems to want to go forward, like he was about to counter Endo that very moment. If he was in defence he'd still manage to recover, no?
Or maybe I'll stop, because I'm starting to feel like some sorta psychic revealing truths hidden to the naked eye lmao.
/sumo/ also used to exist on Yea Forums but everyone eventually moved here. Maybe at some point there were threads on both boards?
>I want Ichinojo vs Enho so bad
Well, the results would depend on Ichi's mood.
If he is sleepy, the match is over before he even recognized it started.
If he is in a badass-mood, he gives a slap and the whereabout of Enho's head will be a mystery like the Ark of the Covenant.
Dunno about Yea Forums, but I'm pretty sure /jp/ had a thread last basho.
I think its just tom getting a good final dive at his core.
I think takakeisho planted and felt a solid grip with his foot, and was going to use the goyji's foot as a pushing off point till it was pulled away
i think even sleepy ichinojo would casually swat him diwn like hes rolling over in his bed.
Yea Forums had them up to last year, but they would fall off with all the new wrestling threads made all the fucking time
Yeah, was going to argue that Tamawashi was on his way down and that's why I thought of a rematch. But i guess you're right,as he was in control.
That's what I meant basically. If he was in defence, he'd just slide a bit more and stop on the rope (maybe). Here he tried to counter Endo, but lost support (gyoji's foot) and stumbled.
Where's Takayasu?
yeah, i get you. good point about sliding to the rings edge if the goyji's foor wasn't there.
is there nothing in the rules about interference?
Injured. Went through hell and back to get his 8 wins last tournament so he can take this one off. He'll be kadoban next tournament but should be healed by then.
Man, I really missed a lot by not watching July. Hope he gets better quickly.
Calling it now, this is Okinoumi's basho.
Yeah it was one of those injuries where Takayasu knew he was fucked for a tournament the moment the injury happened so it was all he could do to show up heavily supported to try and eke out an 8th win, otherwise he wouldn't be ozeki in November.
God fucking damn it, Ryuuden is physically strong and a technical genius but also a literal retard.
it honestly feels like aoiyama doesnt want to do sumo
Enho took advantage of his height and Kagayaki's chest.
Nakabi soon, preemptive PSA for Enho fans to be nervous
If they don't know how to pivot their hips and footing, all the strength in the world won't be of much help
>How would a World's Strongest Man competitor fare in the world of sumo?
They would start instantly to cry if some rikichi would start a slap-fiesta.
I would pay a lot to see Enhou trash one of them.
I would suck Kagayaki's tits no homo
more so than Aoiyamoobs?
Aoiyama's funbags seem like they'd be interesting to feel but Kagayaki has 100% certified female breasts. Wouldn't even be that surprised if I got some milk out of them.
why not Ichi's?
and we don't want to watch him. do everyone a favour and retire
I want to watch him vs. Enho once, then he can retire.
Oh, rare to see you without the trip ABG
I want to watch him but not like this.
That match was....interesting. I like how the waiting gyoji was just about to jump into the ring and call it, but then thought better of it....
>someone I don't like having a hard time due to injury etc
YEAH RETIRE
Is Aoiyama injured?
There were threads on both for maybe 2 or 3 tournaments. We're better off here on a higher-traffic board and I really don't think we lost very many posters
NattoSumo is a bitch. For me it has gotta be Jason.
I haven't bothered with Jason's channel in forever, does he still do shitty cam recordings of his TV while spouting irrelevant obnoxious commentary?
jason doesn't show all the matches, and i hate how theyre all separate videos for each bout. His pre-basho videos are fine. Natto just plays the matches one after eachother on ome video, and the info graphics are pretty useful, eg. previous meetings, where they were last tournament, and who they lost to earlier
yes
For me it was RobertMensin until they got to him RIP
Di's old stream got nuked
New stream:

keep an eye on Roga
oh, he's half Russian

*blocks Tochinoshin's path*
Nothing personal, gaijin-kun
WoW!
Kaku 3rd loss in a row!
This is pretty hard!
must go kyujo now
he can't risk to give the 4th consecutive kinboshi tomorrow against Tamawashi
lmfaoooooooo im high as shit right now
WAITO PIGGU GOU HOOMU
So much more interesting when it's not mongolswinlol
Hope my boy Mitakeumi gets the win
Maybe they should give them some real opponents now.
Ishiura and Yutakayama beat the shit out of each other. 6-1 for the more jacked enho
Shohozan had a good match to get to 4-3. Like watching him
Enho didn't move around enough and gets big boyed
Close call for Meisei to stay with only one loss
Salt man absolutely destroyed. was probably why they didn't over turn the match after monoii. Kotoshogiku's hand went down first on the replay
Okinoumi with some impressive saves for 7-0. Myogiryu might have had that if he let go of the belt. He went down too easy i think cause his hand was stuck. That or just gassed
Kotoeko straight up ran away lol. Still a win
Aoiyama with one on the board. Finally finishing going foward
Fuck abi.
Takakeisho gets henkaed. First the foot yesterday, now this bullshit
Mitakiumi in the running Solid win
Daieisho dominates tochi. I just feel bad watching that
Kakuryu isn't even going to be a contender.
Hes got the best shot at it right now assuming he wins out, which is a possibility with how bad everyone is doing.
The exciting thing to watch this tournament is quickly turning into will tochi and takakeisho trade ranks next tournament
Henka-ing Taka is a pretty low move, if you're going to henka, do it to someone not kadoban. Ishiura v Enho is going to be a very entertaining bout to watch.
I think Tochi's days are numbered, I doubt he's ever going back to Ozeki after this basho, his knee seems really bad at the moment. Constantly on the back foot, cannot generate any power from it, and when pressured in the direction of it he just gives.
> nice tsuppari technique by Kotoyuki at the end
> Asanoyama still doing very well
> Weak Hokutofuji
> Mitakeumi rules
> Tochinoshin will lose ozeki again
> Poor Kakuryu
It looked strong those first couple days, so im not sure if hes injured again like last tournament, or he's got mental issues again. basically sleepy ichi syndrome
its no poor kakaryu. hes a yokozuna
>Ishiura v Enho
same stable; can't fight each other unless they are tied for the yusho and need playoffs
go to sumoDB bankuze and click on the Matrix: there is an X when rikishis can't meet
I feel bad for him. Giving 3 in a row.
Wakaichiro vs Komanokuni on day 5 was fun to watch
bad ones too. i think he thought the yusho was his after the GOAT pulled out so he didn't have to try. not the case
NattoSumo has too much irrelevant shit on the screen it can get pretty obnoxious.
This guy is better if he woudl actually upload.
youtube.com
If Tamawashi beats him tomorrow I think he'll skip the rest.
fwiw the last time a yokozuna other than Kisenosato gave up three kinboshi in a row, they ended up winning the tournament
Another solid win for Ishiura. I'm liking this guy more and more.
Looks like Tsurugisho knows how to deal with our boy Enho. Just shows where his limits are roght now. Too bad.
Okinoumi looks pretty darn good. Think he's aiming for the yusho?
Great save by Kotoeko.
Man, maybe it's good that Hakuho withdrew. I mean, he lost to a shmuck that lost to Aoiyama of all people. The state of yokozunas this tournament lel.
Abi v Endo not even a mono-ii? Shame.
Tochinoshin's back to looking weak AF.
>yokozuna Kakuryu losing 3 in a row
The absolute state of yokozunas right now L M A O. And it was a solid win for Tomokaze, good for him.
BTW Who are these additional refs sitting around the dohyo, are they former rikishi too? Because for that Kotoshogiku v Terutsuyoshi bout, the guy on the left sure looked like old Takamisakari. Is that even possible?
>Henka-ing Taka is a pretty low move
This, but also this:
>his knee seems really bad at the moment
Takakeisho needs 10 wins, right?
>Hakuho is out better start jobbing lmao
I'm not rating this fucker ever again.
>BTW Who are these additional refs sitting around the dohyo, are they former rikishi too?
Yes, they're judges who are there to make sure the ref gets the call right, plus a backup ref in case the first one decides to tumble onto the floor. The judges are all sumo elders in the sumo association, which means they're all coaches and usually but not always stablemasters. They're all also former top-division rikishi, with the chief judge being at least a former ozeki, preferably yokozuna.
Thanks.
So, was it Takamisakari or not? Don't recall him reaching the top top ranks.
He was in the top division which is good enough, keep in mind the top division is the highest 42 wrestlers out of ~600-700 at any given time. It's easy to shit on the mid and lower maegashira ranks when they look like shitters but just being there means they're in the top 5%-7%.
I wonder why he watches sumo without pants.
Haven't really watch in a year. Has Ishiura actually improved?
He's been ping-ponging all year, but he's currently on a 6-1 run which is his best form since his top division debut three years ago.
so it just seems like he's due a one off good basho showing and then back to mediocrity
Yeah he's definitely enjoying the lesser competition, highest ranked guy he's fought is Nishikigi at M13w and he's slated to fight a juryo tourist tomorrow. We'll see if he can keep it up. But realisitically, there's a shelf life for undersized guys like him, Endo, and Terutsuyoshi regardless.
bumpo
I was reading en.wikipedia.org
Only thing I could find is Ama pulling it off at an exhibition tournament in Hawaii back in 2007.
youtube.com
Keep in mind the dohyo is 34-60 cm (13-23") high and wrestlers regularly end up hopping or falling off of that, so a leapfrog on clay isn't that big a deal.
How long till Tochinoshin is in Juriyo or Retires? 2 tournaments?
Even if he lost his rank this tournament and went 0-0-15 the rest of the way, it would still take at least three more tournaments (half a year) before they finally dropped him down to juryo, and if he was ever that injured at this stage in his career then he'd probably just retire.
I think the most likely scenario is basically what happened with Baruto. He'll get demoted, eke out a few more tournaments at sekiwake, then get injured again badly enough to drop him to juryo, upon which he'll retire.
They're going to have to force him to stop. If not, hell be kotoshogiku 2.0, which i mentioned before, and hope i dont have to see
Kakuryu is out
Tsurugisho 19 wins in the last 22 bouts
Hope this thread stay up for a while, never watched sumo but surely is better than American "sports", here's a bump
What are the records for lowest rank winning a basho? Some low ranked guys at the top of the leaderboard. Hope Okinoumi wins. 34 years old and never been close to winning
Bad move ishiura
I thought Shohozan was going to have to really fight for that win. takagenji very off balance
Did they figure out enho?
Okinoumi needs to fight better people now, especially since we have some injuries at the top. first to kachi-koshi, so props there
Meisei still going strong
Myogiryu is added to the list of injured
Daieisho should have put up a better showing than that after two big wins
Asanoyama might be in the running if okinoumi and meisei drop some
Get. Fucked. Abi.
Endo looking really good. Good save at the ropes especially against Chiyotairu, whos almost got 100lbs (~40kg)on him
Takakeisho back to looking strong. Straight bullied Mitakeumi. 4 more
Goeido going for another mediocre tournament. The only top rank guy that had a shot. probably blown now
Tochinoshin looked like he was in trouble for that first throw. luckily shodia didn't have good balance. Im betting on endo tomorrow with how well hes been fighting. Another good thing for tochi is we lost alot of people he would have had to fight later in the tournament, and hes only got 2 more he can lose and keep rank. If kak and hak stayed in, and with takakeisho so strong going foward this tournament it might have been it. Still got a shot, but hes got to get on the mawashi and start going foward since hes had some bad luck with that backwards throw. 5 more to go.
Lowest post-war was M14e Takatoriki back in 2000. Asanoyama at M8w was the lowest since then.
Oh yeah I had already forgotten about Asanoyama.
1991 was the last time there was 6 different winners in the same year. That's what I'm rooting for now.
>Get. Fucked. Abi.
Yeah, his thrusts are great but at some point he needs to learn to move his feet instead of falling onto his opponents.
Shame about Ishiura losing, but he's not yet there to be winning everything and is still only on 2 losses. Can't be unhappy with that performance (unless he goes 6-9).
Shame about Enho too. Should've made that last dodge count. And no, I don't think the gyoji interfered.
Okinoumi v Onoshi was a very good bout. Good intensity. And Oki keeps clean sheet, which is great.
Nice reversal by Ryuden, but he's still doing way below his potential.
Aoiyama did pretty good too, not enough to win against Asanoyama, but his last two bouts were way better that the first 7. Maybe he'll pull a positive record off?
Looks like Abi has nothing but his wonky ass slaps. What a let-down he is.
Endo on the other hand showed some good sumo. Going all in into a slam-down with a significantly heavier rikishi and standing your ground, very nice. And Chiyotairyu was very aggressive too. Great bout.
TakaBEAST is back, people!
Good win from Tochinoshin, looked like he controlled his oponent from the very start. Good to see him back on track.
Kakuryu? More like KEKuryu lmao.
Two direct title contenders and another 6 still in the game - now that's a good tournament.
>Okinoumi needs to fight better people now
And who would they set him up against?
kotoshogiku, asanoyama, tomokaze, tamawashi, hokutofuji, endo or abi. some veterans and some with good standings this tournament. one komusubi should be fine for him to fight and pick the next bouts based on his record with a few of those.
i like aoiyama, but i doubt hell get kachi-koshi.
takakeisho could win the tournament if he wins out. next tournament too and get us a new yokozuna?
disagree on tochi, but a win is a win
his thrusts are only great if they dont do the counter, which is to just slip him down to the side cause hes always off balance and foward on his toes.
>cause hes always off balance and foward on his toes.
That's what I meant by him needing to learn to move his feet. He needs to do a lot more teppo so he can sync up his arms and legs.
even if he did that, he still would be a one trick pony. He needs to go the endo route and get better at his overall sumo. its why hakahou is so good. he has a go to move set, but can fight enough different ways to win if his go to moves are countered or denied through defense
Better a one trick pony than a no trick pony. His first priority should be making his style work by fixing his footwork. Once he has that he can work on grappling and throws, but none of those will work with his shitty footwork.
Are there any up and coming gaijin (not Mongolian) wrestlers? Only Tochinoshin, Aoiyama and Kaisei?
You now remember Terunofuji
I'm honestly surprised he's still fighting, it'll be interesting to see if he can get back up to the top division, though even if he can it won't happen until late next year.
>i like aoiyama, but i doubt hell get kachi-koshi.
Aoiyama is one thing, but I really doubt if Tochi will get it.
Aoiyama needs to lose 20lbs. He's too slow and tired at this size.
not only him. Gaga has the same problem. He is already exhausted when he climbs up the ring.
What's the best all round YouTube channel/stream to watch on?
for me it's nattosumo
Probably Natto since Kintamayama has been wanting to stop.
you have a yt-stream:
youtube.com
and 2 twitch streams:
this is good because it shows the main event with Engl. commentary
twitch.tv
and this is cool, because it starts 4 hours earlier and shows all the lower divisions
twitch.tv
~~~~
There are several channels who are posting the highlights of the day like
Kintamayama
youtube.com
or NattoSumo
youtube.com
Feel free to repost the links. Cheers!!!
He should just stop doing them then. He was great when he was the only one doing it but he's not needed anymore. I think he likes the attention
How often are people injured in sumo? A whole ton of people seem to be bandaged up. Do they get concussions too? Some of those first charges look brutal.
Frequently. It just comes with the territory; if you take time off after literally every injury then you'll never finish a tournament. It's still ultimately a combat sport, and hard clay is unforgiving, and that's not counting how damaging it is to simply exist at that weight. Anyone worth a shit is usually competing with a bunch of nagging injuries that they frequently get treatment for but aren't serious enough that they can't compete, hence the bandages. People like talking about Tochinoshin's injuries but his knees have been fucked for like six years now. It's just a thing he lives with. Same with Kakuryu's hips or Hakuho's right arm, etc.
>how damaging it is to simply exist at that weight
Gave me a chuckle. In all seriousness though that's pretty fuckin hardcore.
>Gave me a chuckle.
I'm not even exaggerating with that, when literally every top division wrestler has a BMI over 30, even tiny little Endo at 33.3 all the way up to Kotoshogiku at 54.6, even when you account for muscle and subcutaneous fat vs. visceral fat, simply walking around normally with that much mass is hell on the knee and hips, let alone performing strenuous physical activity every day for the rest of your life.
Nah, Gould is terrible. His opinions are very dramatic.
Don't care about his personal opinions, but I like him when he's translating news and interviews, and providing snippets of sumo history and culture that we otherwise wouldn't get. Hard to argue with a guy who's actually living in Japan and talks to actual sumo wrestlers past and present on a regular basis.
He's kinda annoying sometimes but his videos are the most convenient way to keep up with the news and provide good info. Can't hate him for that. He's pure harmless as well. Just loves his sumo
if you listen carefully, after the Makuuchi entering ceremony and before the first bout the speaker inside the Ryogoku Kokugikan announces which bout has received the more flags/money envelopes (kensho); he repeats the names two times so you can't miss it (if there aren't commercials in that moment of course)
I really liked "Being Kisenosato" but in general fuck Gould.
Reddit-y as fuck but still useful and interesting to me
What I don't get about Chris Gould is why he deliberately pronounces Japanese words with a very foreign inflection or accent in his videos. He's fluent in the language and certainly speaks correctly when he's talking to people in Japan. Why does he change how he says the words when speaking to English fans?
>He's fluent in the language and certainly speaks correctly when he's talking to people in Japan.
This doesn't mean he doesn't have an accent while speaking Japanese, he's only been living there for ~10 years.
>This doesn't mean he doesn't have an accent while speaking Japanese, he's only been living there for ~10 years.
That may be, but if you hear it, you would think he'd never heard a Japanese person say the words he's using.
>sumo thread
>talk about some goy named gould
announcer general
there are very few gaijin indeed
today bout with the most envelopes: Okinoumi - Ryuden
do the mongolians even count as foreigners in sumo anymore? its their sport now essentially
how much do these fellas get paid?
also its comfy background streaming shit
based japanese customs
maybe I've got it wrong; will recheck later
Can someone explain to sumolet why Enho lost even though his opponent touched the ring first. Was it because he was overpowered and the opponent had control?
probably dead body rule
usually apply when someone is flying out of the dohyo but this time to someone falling on his back; or overpowered and unable to recover from that awkward position; anyway, a good call
Maybe someone can translate what the shimpan said after they made a decision?
*ahem*
I warned you, /sumo/
Why didn't we get a restart for Tsurugisho's bout? Takagenji started early
Ishiura with another poor move at the start
I thought enho was going to lift him up and carry him out of the ring. sad he lost in the end
good throw by kotoeko
meisei gets his kachi-koshi. thought kotoshogiku had him. another good throw
Ryuden stops okinoumi's streak. Looks like he step wrong cause his tapped foot?
Strong win for aoiyama. Why can he fight each match like this? win out for kachi-koshi?
GEEEETTTT FUCKED ABI. He honestly should have had that. grab the mawashi from the back and just ride him out
Takakeisho being a beast again. Tamawashi put up a good fight till taka got under him. Dont think anyone can out push him in the top ranks
Mitakiumi has a solid win
Tochinoshin resorting to the only way he knows how to get a surefire win now, henka. Fucking disgusting. This shit makes me hope he loses his rank again.
Goeido fight like how real ozeki fight, granted against shodia whos 2-7 now
he got slammed. enho was not the reason azumaryu went down, and enho had no way to save himself at that point. Kotoshogiku one this tournament too
>Why didn't we get a restart for Tsurugisho's bout? Takagenji started early
yeah, sometimes they are too strict and call matta wrongly, sometimes they do the opposite; but Tsurugisho stopping for a second was a big error: just go on, you perfectly know that the gyoji can make a mistake by not calling a matta; tomorrow he can stop Meisei: they are 5-1, will be interesting; also Okinoumi is 10-4 against Sadanoumi, so he has a big chance to fix up today error
Enhou can at least rest easy tonight knowing that he did his sumo perfectly.
>I will explain the conference we have just had. The gyouji's gunbai was raised to Enhou but Enhou's body fell first. Sashichigae etc.
In essence: horseshit.
might as well always charge and let the goyji stop than what he did.
okinoumi is looking good for atleast 10. im rooting for takakeisho this tournament for the yusho though.
>enho was not the reason azumaryu went down
Causing your opponent to lose has never been the condition for victory in sumo. If it were, the fights would be radically different.
Hahaha Asanoyama fucked annoying Abi fuck.
Also hahaha at Tochinoshin henkaing Endo. Dat was great. Sweet revenge.
Azumaryu - Enho should have been a rematch.
The gyoji that fucked up the Tsurugisho v Takagenji bout (clearly needed a restart) is the same one that fucked over Takakeisho and then fell off dohyo, right?. This chump needs a rest.
Ishiura stop jobbing, you dolt!
What was the mono-ii verdict exactly? Clearly they wouldn't call Azumaryu as being "in charge" (attacking) as it would put every lighter rikishi at a disproportionate disadvantage. If they didn't feel like awarding the switcheroo, they should at least order a rematch. Regardless, great effort by Enho.
Tough bout for Meisei, but it's good to see him still in the title race.
Slipnoumi lel. Come on, Ryuden isn't even that good.
Abi is so crap holy shit. Have the man back-to-front and on the rope and still lose? What a fucking crapper L M A O. Props to Asanoyama, tho. Been in real trouble thrice during this bout but still kept his cool and won. Very nice.
Good win for TakaBEAST, but that's to be expected, innit.
Tochinoshin won and yet I am disappointed. Partially because Endo lost and partially because Tochi went with henka. And the fattest envelope too. Welp.
So, we still have 5 guys aiming for the title, with 6 days to go. Gonna be interesting.
Referee incompetence probably
In all likelihood it was similar to the time where Tochi got robbed, some judge(s) decided they saw Enho touch first and the other judges automatically deferred to them. The video replay judge almost never seems to play a big part.
What a load of bull.
>Why didn't we get a restart for Tsurugisho's bout? Takagenji started early
The gyoji a shit.
>Ishiura with another poor move at the start
Went down too low.
It's like he didn't hear, or the gyoji was late with, the usual call to keep fighting.
I still blame the gyoshit.
>Sweet revenge.
Elaborate.
its part of the shini tai rule. if enho was the reason azumaryu went down, it could be viewed as enho having the superior technique, and he probably would have kept the win.
what revenge are you talking about? i dont think endo ever henkaed him, atleast not recently
rematch would probably be the best choice even thought i see the reason why they flipped the outcome
glad abi hate is starting to be comon place
off balance to. shouldn't be slapped down so easily. maybe im expecting to much enho from him
Chris Gould is a faggot and I hope he dies in an earthquake. Jason too.
seething
They didn't call shinitai. The shinpan said:
>ただいまの協議について説明をします。行事軍配は炎鵬に上がりましたが炎鵬の体が先に落ちており行司軍配差し違えにて東龍の勝ちといたします。
>I will explain the conference we have just had. The gyouji's gunbai was raised to Enhou but Enhou's body fell first. So, by reversal of the gyouji's gunbai, Azumaryuu wins.
No matter how they might try to spin the decision itself later, what he said was factually inaccurate.
He beat him pretty easy last time. So now Tochinoshin beat him pretty easy too, lol.
Woah what did Jason our jolly and bubbly overweight huggy bear ever do to you? Fuck Cringe Gould though
Is there any website I can go where they sell shit like this? I wanna see what kinda shit they have for sumo out there
Enhou's body did fall first though, even if he didn't touch the dirt first. Essentially it's a polite way of saying "Enhou was fucked, so he shouldn't get a win on a technicality when Azumaryuu was clearly in control."
That doesn't matter, there are examples almost every tournament where a rikishi executing a throw loses because the guy being thrown is braver and doesn't try to break his fall while the thrower does, even though it's extremely unlikely the rikishi in the weaker position isn't going to make a comeback.
The judges call shinitai awfully rarely, so if that's what they thought they would've said so. What happened is almost certainly that they got up, the two(?) that called monoii said 'Enho touched first, I'm certain of it!', the others didn't argue at all and they all sat back down.
shop.kokugikan.jp
buy yourself a nice fridge magnet
So behind the nobodies who will lose as soon as they fight someone good we have the 3 young guys all with 1 yusho under their belt, feels like whoever wins this one will have a good chance at kicking on and becoming the main guy once Hak and Kak have gone in the near future
Tochi about to henka his way to 8 wins, absolutely based. Nips will be furious.
>Tochi about to henka his way to 8 wins, absolutely based. Nips will be furious.
Henkaing for his rank is understandable. He needed a victory pretty hard today.
Abi is the cocksucker in this matter. Whenever someone needs a KK badly for keeping in the division or keeping the title, on the last day -when nothing to win lose anyways- that asshole fucks around with henka.
Reminder that a henka is a legitimate technique.
Only if you're injured or lost to bullshit, like when Kak let Tochi henka him after that heel call.
Mongorians will always be considered dirty gaijin, as will ALL non-Japanese.
>legitimate
"tolerated" is the word
I've just noticed that Naruto stable has lost their foreigner recently; I wonder who will be the next one: maybe another millennial? they are doing an excellent job with those young recruits
I actually got in touch with Naruto and they said they aren't looking for a foreigner right now.
i hope his sorry ass henkas, and then his knee gives out so he falls on his own fat face. loses without the other guy even touching him. hoping chiyotairu takes it today. all in against tochi now
off course, but theyre like africans in the nba now
Imagine hating Tochi, what a pathetic faggot you must be.
>Henka kak to get his rank back
>Try real sumo again last tournament
>Not a single win
>Try again this tournament
>3-5 against scubs
>better go back to henka
He should just retire. I have no problem with him and like his power sumo, that is till he starts resorting to this shit. Hes afraid to fight a lower ranked guy than him is basically what that means. same thing about being afraid to fight kakuryu 2 basho ago.
Kak let him have that henka after the heel bs.
>He should just retire
astounds me how often this braindead opinion is spat out in these threads
he shouldn't have even been in that position. he lost 2 that should have been wins for him that tournament
do you want to see kotoshogiku 2.0? I dont know if he'll even be that good with how his knee keeps acting up. He's 31. Not getting any younger, and definitely not getting any healthier. I get the money argument, but he should be set for life in georgia by now.
forget pic. meisei and endo
>do you want to see kotoshogiku 2.0?
If Kotoshogiku can keep going in the top division years after demotion then more power to him, especially in a sport where demotion like that is due to injury. It's like people forget just being in the top division means they're in the top 7-8% of all sumo.
His body is fucked for life no matter what he does, no reason not to see it through to the bitter end. Nobody walks away from sumo with their health intact
hakahou looks like hes going to, but thats the privilege of rank i guess. take the tournament off for any little injury.
i've always been one to think its better to retire at the peak. Maybe its because of how sports are in the US. better to be remember at your peak, than remembered as a hurdle other people overcome going up to their peak. a jobber basically.
There is an enormous gap between 'Can't sustain Ozeki' and 'Should retire'. Even ignoring the fact that most rikishi don't even reach salary, a career around middle maegashira is a successful one, there's zero shame in it and it's particularly lucrative for anyone that has already built up a respectable mochikyuukin like Kotoshogiku did and Tochinoshin has.
Retirement should only ever become a concern when falling below juryo, which even with his injuries doesn't seem to be happening particularly soon.
the money argument is one that does make sense to me. i dont know if theres an avenue to generate income at the same level as when fighting just by using your past experience as a top division wrestler.
the intrinsic desire to keep fighting could be it to, but i dont know if tochi still wants to fight for fighting sake. i don't get that sense with how defeated he looks after his losses. no hunger or anger to do better.
Sumo actually disincentivizes this. For one, in retirement he'll always been known as "former ozeki" regardless of what rank he retires in, with all the privileges thereof. For another, the way sumo salary works, you can only really go up. A demotion will hurt a bit but not by much, and subsequent winning scores and kinboshi will make up the difference quickly. It's only ever not worth it financially if he drops below juryo, so the question of retirement becomes whether the extra money is worth the extra wear on the body.
Anyone ever eat chankonabe? Is it just a plain old hotpot? Is it even any good?
I make chankonabe fairly regularly, start out with the recipe from that "The 10,000 calorie sumo wrestler diet" video and use your own judgement from the second time onward. It's amazing in my opinion. Everyone I've ever made it for has been impressed.
Go to an Asian grocery store and tell them you're making chanko, they'll give you the premade broth so you don't have to do that part.
Ive heard the peice about former ozeki, but will it follow him back to Georgia? id guess yes since sumo seems popular enough there to continue to get wrestlers into top ranks, but i dont know enough. maybe the Georgian poster can answer if he shows back up.
its pretty good. if you go to the tournament, they sell it there as like the only real food you can get, or at nagoya atleast.
>you can only really go up
Wikipedia has some explanations, but the bonus that increases is not quantified:
en.wikipedia.org
so, the 70 rikishi in the top ranks get more than 10 millions dollars combined per year: did they ever released the exact sum being paid for a specific year?
kensho are also to be added: at Sumoforum they report the count for each day:
if my math is correct there are like 3.5 millions dollars per year from the envelopes
Wtf I hate Tochi now
monoii meisei wins lol
oh wait this isn't an enhou match
big difference in size here
Commentators talking about how much Ishiura can bench lmao
Oh rad this board does sumo nice
tochinoshin daishouri
none of the top 5 will fight each other tomorrow; the last few days will be really interesting if they are still tied; also curious at the pairings they'll chose to solve the tie
Toyonoshima out with injury. This tournament is getting everyone
Meisei goes down couldn't finish his belt throw. Good defense by tsurugisho on the belt
Salt man getting it rubbed in his wounds now. I was completely wrong about him
Kotoyuki blasted ishiura while he was moving back. got a little air time. Drops to 6-4
Okinoumi losses too. That slap down attempt put him out of position
Enho breaks his losing streak. Very interesting match to watch. Looked more like wrestling or judo than typical sumo. He's got kotoshogiku tomorrow, which could be rough
Good finishing throw by ryuden. 5-5
Asanoyama solid win. gets kachikoshi. in the running for the yusho
Aoiyama loses, makekoshi
Endo goes down to hokutofuji. Better sumo from hokutofuji.
Mitakiumi getting pushed around by tom O'washi, but gets him off balanced enough to pull out a win. kachikoshi and in the running for the yusho
Takakeisho kachikoshi from more straight power sumo. Its fun watching him be the schoolyard bully. In the running for the yusho
Goeido cant get inside abi's pushing attack. Abi gets a good push when goeido tried that pull
I think its hard to argue that its tochinoshin's knee thats the root of his problem this tournament after beating chiyotairu like that. still staggered, but looks like his power is there. this is the tochinoshin i want to see. 5-5 going into takakeisho tomorrow. Thats a big bout tomorrow since takakeisho wants his rank back, and hes got a shot winning the yusho
going to be a good last couple days
>Thats a big bout tomorrow since takakeisho wants his rank back
And wasn't a loss to Takakeishou the match which determined Tochi's demotion?
damn, youre right. forget that. add that in too. match of the day tomorrow. That was the tournament that takakeisho sealed ozeki too.
Gypsies aren’t white
My spidey sense telling me Toyonoshima retiring ;___;
Goes salt-guy back to Juryo?
Not impossible, if I recall right he wanted to make it back to makuuchi for his daughter so having done so he might consider it time to wrap things up
Nope not yet at least
How hard has salty to fuck up to get back?
Pretty dissapointing after the last basho.
how much was it? obviously answer using enho to ichinojo
I don't know what the commentators said, but this is from Ishiura's Wikipedia page:
>フルスクワット300kg、ベンチプレスも200kgを上げる。
300 kg fullsquat, 200+ kg benchpress.
The citation is from 2016.
I don't know - do these numbers say anything about the notion that strongmen would or wouldn't do well in sumo?
Shame about Meisei losing. Tsurugisho countered him good.
Ah man, Ishiura was complete crap today. Like, he had no idea how to fight Kotoyuki.
Okinoumi got countered too easily. Like he was still thinking about yesterday's loss.
Very valuable win for Enho, but what was the deal with that tachi-ai (and the bout as a whole)? They were fighting in slo-mo. Like Chris said that one time - lighter rikishi fighting each other often try to outsmart one another and some really silly stuff can happen.
Important win for Asanoyama and for Mitakeumi too as well as TakaBEAST.
Looks like Goeido tripped, so I'm not rating Abi for this win.
>Musubi no ichiban - Tochinoshin v Chiyotairyu
L E L
But hey, a pretty good bout.
Asanoyama, Mitakeumi, Okinoumi, Takakeisho and Meisei are all still in the title race and even if I only consider Tak and Mit to have what it takes to handle it up to day 15 (they are sekiwake/ozeki in the end, innit), this alone makes it the best tournament this year.
Cheerio.
At maegashira 9 he'd have to lose a lot and have guys below him not lose much i.e not have better candidates for juryo
So imo he's pretty safe at this point but yeah disappointing I agree
>300 kg fullsquat, 200+ kg benchpress
So, one satiated Ichinojo and one fasting Ichinojo, respectively?
>Thats a big bout tomorrow since takakeisho wants his rank back, and hes got a shot winning the yusho
Oh boy, OH BOY.
I think Terutsuyoshi's problem is that he's not doing enough Enhou-like stuff. He started out in makuuchi with a lot more trickery, but he's spent his matches this basho thus far trying to fair-fight guys who are 80 pounds heavier than him.
These are pretty accurate.
lose bad again next two basho. Kaisei was 3, 3, 1 and was then shadow realmed
not particularly good compared to pro strongman. Barcelona has a 200kg log for reps, granted most if not all will push press. They typically are over 230kg for easy reps on bench and closer to 340kg on squats on the low end. Eddie hall benched 300kg, squatted 400kg, and strick over head pressed over 200kg when he won wsm. Hell, i train amateur powerlifting and i squat over 300kg and bench 240kg at the 140kg class. Strength wise is not really a competition, its comes down to technique and balance
mitakiumi didn't look too good in todays bout, but he'll probably hang on or bounceback. I wouldn't count out asanoyama just yet, looking more settled these last couple days.
>not particularly good compared to pro strongman
Well, that wasn't really the point of my question. Ishiura is that muscular at 5'7, and he routinely loses to most of the makuuchi mainstays. The problem is asking whether his height makes having that much strength unwieldy and causes him to lose, or if it's just that raw strength isn't the key to sumo.
How many of these 'carpets' has a wrestler?
I noticed Tochi had today a completly different than yesterday.
Aren't they basically advertisements? I'd reckon one has as many as his sponsors are willing to splash for.
I'm not sure if there's a limit on kesho mawashi, I recall old mate Chris Gould mentioning someone had 8 of them to cycle through in a recent tournament, though I can't remember who it was.
how do they decide who faces who each day?
it seems unfair that lower ranked maegashira can rack up wins against shittters but higher ranked maegashira are facing ozeki every day
*henkas you*
>heh nothing personnel kid
What a POS
First week usually has upper maegashira being cannon foddered into sanyaku while low maegashira messes around among themselves, second week sanyaku starts going against eachother while upper maegashira is paired against lower
I'd love to say there's fixed rules to how they schedule matches but aside from rikishi not being matched against their own stable and inter-ozeki/yokozuna matches rounding out the final days, I don't think they ever truly set anything in stone, if the committee really wants a match to happen they find a way.
Lads, Tochinoshin actually might do this.
But now he'll face stronger ones and all seem to be in shape.
tochinoshin retire bitnch
aoiyama’s giant flabby tits make me want to puke every time he’s in the ring
I wouldnt be surprised if he would henka again.
Specially against the T.Rex tommorow.
Seeing the form of the two guys this basho I hardly belive Tochi had any chance.
>The problem is asking whether his height makes having that much strength unwieldy and causes him to lose, or if it's just that raw strength isn't the key to sumo.
ameritard question. Obviously no muscle or weight wouldn`t work but thinking some strongman fag would even stand half a chance in the lowest division is as retarded as thinking american athletes could be good at soccer if they cared about it. The level of balance and skill required is unobtainable for those that haven't grown up praciticing it and trained from an early age. Its a shame that sumo is at such an incredibly low point, since their hugely outdated demands on athletes private lives, horrendous training and the incredibly low pay as full professionals (as well as kicking out asashoryu) has caused the skill level and competition at the top to deteriorate to such a point that one can even consider such a dumbass question as "would strongest man contender be good at sumo?".
Would the higher ups ever accept a “modern” sumo? Or are they really that keen on eating chanko and slapping logd?
What's wrong with the question itself?
its a massive problem across japan, sumo is just symbolic of the wider culture, idiotic shit is carried on, because that is how its always been done, no one dares suggest something better, because everyone has been brainwashed to shut up and be quiet at all times (or get hammered down for standing out) and never question the massively spoiled and childish head male elders doing whatever it is that will maintain their position and standing, even as the whole ship is clearly and unavoidably sinking.
Tl:dr they all must die, hopefully soon from heart attacks and haemmorhoids, for anything to change.
Oazuma - Chiyonokuni again tomorrow
last time was 11 years ago lmao
I think or Jip-Jap-guy refers to Murrican stupidity itself.
Since you live in a "country" where you can be, whatever you want to be (.i.e. a woman if you have a dick) you are so much brainwashed, that you wont even get it.
Example for Burger:
if you are used to swim since you are 4-5 years, your body is so used to water, that your body changes during your lifetime as well.
Just look at Phelps what Alien-looking body he has.
But if you used to eSports and Pizza-fast-eating, you will never be as good as Phelps, since swimming sport is not feminism.
Same goes to sumo.
There are pretty good dokus on youtube. Just take look what those wrestlers are doing a day in their stable. Burgers would instantly cry and go back home instantly and acuse Japs of abusement etc.
someone make a new thread
hi chris
not him but don’t pretend germany isn’t even deeper in the tranny hole than we are
>Just take look what those wrestlers are doing a day in their stable. Burgers would instantly cry and go back home instantly and accuse Japs of abusement etc.
But what does that have to do with anything? Who is even talking about Americans? The question is what would happen if, tomorrow, Zydrunas Savickas flew to Japan and got a makuuchi rikishi to agree to face him in a dohyou under standard sumo rules.
The only reason the question is asked is because it hasn't ever happened. That's all there is to it: the intrigue of a match-up we've never seen. Once one 'strongman' does it, the result will stand as the record and the question won't ever be asked again.
>what would happen if, tomorrow, Zydrunas Savickas flew to Japan and got a makuuchi rikishi to agree to face him in a dohyou under standard sumo rules.
Well, the laughter of the audience will never be the same again.
I think I would even buy a 1000 $ ticket just to see how a fat Murrican ass gets bitchslapped.
Strongmen would have an initial advantage just being able to overpower everyone else. Their belt-fighting would suck, but let's not pretend anyone without prior judo experience is all that good at grappling themselves. A strongman could literally just Takakeisho his way to a strong record, even if he loses against the few people who actually have good technique. I would expect him to beat a yokozuna or smart ozeki/lower sanyaku, but he'd probably break 10 wins just by shoving people around. The problem would come, not with an individual tournament, but adapting to sumo culture. I'm not even talking about training techniques, but having to do 15 matches 15 days in a row, 6 times a year, with full-contract training and regional tours in between. The sumo lifestyle is brutal and far more controlled than strongman life where they can just train for a handful of major competitions which are all short with a smaller number of events. So unless they were able to adapt, they'd plateau quickly, get injured frequently, and flame out before achieving much.
Ishiura got fucking launched into orbit by a guy who can't even use his fingers.
He’s Lithuanian you idiot. You read the name “Zydrunas Savickas” and you think that’s an American?
>Zydrunas Savickas
>American
Are you drunk?
Since being the country of emigration, in America you can have ANY name, you stupid piece of shit!
Also, does Barak Obama sound 'American' ?
Murricans are indeed a nation full of idiots.
We've reached bump limit, here's a new thread.
