>spend years shilling for the halo and publicly shaming anyone who doesnt support it >point to minor accidents and claim the halo "did its job" >first major accident happens >halo's existence is inconsequential
ya it turns out driving the literal equivalent of a bath tub on wheels at 170-220mph is actually kind of dangerous if anyone even remotely fucks up. gt/touring/stock cars are at least safer because you have a whole protective cocoon around you that can crumple and absorb energy before the core driver compartment takes damage.
Colton Gonzalez
The halo is a debris device reinforced and oversold to cover Whiting's ass over Bianchi.

>thread about motorsport this weekend >doesn't even mention F1 Lmao how can you be such a seething moron. F1 is the biggest motorsport on the planet. If you're going to make a thread about motorsport but deliberately ignore the world's biggest motorsport then you must be pretty butthurt.
Other than Lights/Pro Mazda and F1 itself almost every open wheel car is just another Dallara shitbox. IndyCar tub is probably beefier in the sides because they add more anti-intrusion panels every time someone sneezes but they had terrible sidepod protection for years and a lot of side impact injuries. youtube.com/watch?v=1t-y-n6ck_c eg. Wilson had a broken pelvis from this one
This crash was on the tier of Zanardi losing his legs but the impact was that couple feet further back to make it fatal.
There was supposed to be some kind of indycar announcement today, but its now being held until tomorrow because of the incident at spa
t. marshall pruett
Angel Walker
Indycar was going to be sold to Liberty Media and renamed "Formula Indy" for 2020, but the deal was called off due to the FIA's "complete lack of interest in meaningful safety research and development."
They were going to announce that Hubert would be joining Indycar next season.
Connor Stewart
Wew lads Adam stern had previously stated that he expected the 2020 schedule to be revealed this week, but pruett phrased it as "changes coming to the indycar paddock" so who knows
Parker Harris

Just seems weird that you wouldn't even mention it. Why not just make a thread for Nascar if you want a Nascar thread. Or make a thread for IndyCar if you want that. Instead of making a "all motorsport apart from the most popular motorsport, which we won't mention" thread. Just seems a bit weird mate.
Tyler Thompson
because f1 has it's own thread, there's no point having f1 here as well

Yes that makes sense, but making a list of all motorsport this weekend and leaving out the biggest event is a bit weird. Or maybe just the idea of lumping all motorsport apart from F1 together is weird.
Well it's illogical.
Nope.

>RACER has learned Dallara Automobili, which builds spec cars for the NTT IndyCar Series, Daytona Prototype internationals for Cadillac in IMSA’s WeatherTech SportsCar championship, and has produced a number of Formula 1 cars over the years, is preparing to supply the series with its Gen-7 chassis due in 2021 for the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. I can't even fathom what the fuck anyone involved in NASCAR is thinking at this point.
>It’s believed Dallara, which produces cars and spares at its primary base in Varano de’ Melegari, Italy, and Speedway, Indiana, will be tasked with developing the underpinnings of the Gen-7 cars destined for Chevrolet, Ford, and Toyota, along with using its advanced knowledge in cockpit safety to bring new innovations to the 2021 cars. >its advanced knowledge in cockpit safety lmao why would Pruett even put up an article with this today
Back in the 80s Stefan Bellof was killed in that same section of track. The danger was always there and we all learned the hard way today what the worst could happen.
Rip Anthoine Hubert. Losing a rising talent like this is always terrible.
Hudson Allen
Indy cars aeroscreen does a better job since it takes the frame of the Halo and covers it with a screen.
Mason Perez
Same. As a Honda fan in general it’s great seeing Penske cars choke. Although I wouldn’t be surprised if Dixon pulls a miracle out of his ass and makes it 6.
Jackson Cook
In the 80s it was literally lined with guard rails and (thanks to putting ever wider and flatter curbs in) had an entirely different racing line, that's like saying a driver died at any arbitrary corner on any old track once.
Oh boy how will we prepare ourselves for the unbridled excitement of a 3/4 mile aero push train.
Jacob Barnes
You know I've just had the depressing realization that even with this shanty street circuit, the quality of this Thai series is higher than any championship in Canada.
Actually even this shanty street circuit isn't as bad as Canadian tracks get.
Is le high line man finally gonna do it this year?
Easton Cook
The cars are pretty fucking shit (yet cost way the fuck too much to run) and if it wasn't for piggy backing onto international events at road and street courses the entire championship would be small short tracks in front of tiny crowds. Racing isn't awful but it's stock cars on short tracks and road/street courses of course it isn't.
Adam Cook
>On the subject of whether new partners McLaren would be happy with a Hinchcliffe-Ericsson lineup, Schmidt replied: “Yes – and that’s another thing that seems to have gotten lost or out of control in the media since the McLaren announcement. There’s no equity ownership; Ric and I own the team 100 percent. Thank God Arrow were able to look at the big picture because they had exclusive naming rights, but they agreed to step aside and share those naming rights which was a huge first step. >“And it wasn’t just the money, although that’s a consideration. But they’re going to show up with four or five car [sponsor] placements – places we possibly could have sold ourselves – but it’s just easier dealing with one person instead of five.
>all that hype for years about McLaren in Shindy >they just bought half the title sponsorship slot for a team that already had a two car title sponsor and offered to sell the other spots on the car for them
"The series’ visits to Pocono in its most recent stretch had not always been pleasant. Three severe accidents occurred from 2015 through this season, including one that resulted in the death of driver Justin Wilson in 2015 and the paralysis of Robert Wickens from the waist down in 2018, though his recovery continues. fimewc.com/whats-new-at-the-2019-2020-fim-ewc/ >Homologated machines >Formula EWC teams can enter any machine homologated for World Superbike. Previously, Formula EWC and Superstock had to choose from among the machines homologated for the Superstock 1000. There doesn't seem to be a big difference between the two classes in terms of homologated bikes but it's nice i guess, maybe we could see a Ducati or 2.
That's pretty much just because Superstock 1000 is no longer a championship so the homologation list won't be updated, although I suppose the V4R may not have qualified for it.
Kayden Johnson
Well, Richmond is replacing Pocono. Happy?

It was a joke because of the casualty at spa last weekend. The reason pocono didnt come back is because the title sponsor pulled out

When MotoE starts using TT Zero rules instead of some literal who production bike with a budget chassis that weighs as much as a large displacement sport tourer.
The Mugen Shinden would crap on them mercilessly -and- be able to run races like 2.5x as long. From what I recall the Kawasaki 650 Supertwins in the Lightweight TT are making north of 100hp and the Mugen is within seconds of the same lap record around the Isle of Man.

I didn't watch it. I think I'm going to completely drop it. 3 races a weekend is too much anyway. I started to study again recently and work 4 days. MotoGP and F1 are enough for me I think. WSBK was the least enjoyable for me anyway. WSS is more fun.

We have at least a few of those guys each in Pinty's, CSBK, CTCC, etc. They're all ridiculous in their own ways, Pinty's has upper 6 figure dollar budgets to run cars that would be only the 2nd or 3rd highest class at most local tracks, CSBK has Szoke sucking in all the sponsorship in the country and rolling out two new $70k superbikes for 6 races where a rando 600 can finish in the top 5 sometimes, and CTCC is a complete non-entity of a championship with GT4 and TCR.
Liam Smith
Those are pretty ridiculous, but none of those guys have to deal with a 100% tax rate to bring their cars to the country so they can hotlap for 4 hours
Theres nothing wrong with it per se, but its not very competitive, basically a fancier track day.
Matthew Miller
The championship itself it's pretty young, each year newer teams are joining more, like this year Ginetta went to compete and AMG sold two more GT3 GT's for other teams. Plus the guys who build the AJR's are making bank with this championship since more teams are buying their cars and putting meme engines on it.
My only complaint with this championship it's their classes organizations, i hope in the future they get rid of those "Light" categories since they are just dead weight compared to the others.
That's my problem with it, so you, mr. huehue money bags, bought a fucking LMP3, complete with factory driver support (kek)... To race against who exactly?
There's a single TCR in this race, it might be in a """class"" with other cars, but it is the only one of its kind there. And because it's a car originally built for BOP racing, development is limited, so you don't even have that excuse...
I don't know man, participation trophy races have always been a pet peeve of mine. If I were a brazillionaire I'd rather finish last in something like GTE Pro than being the "best shitter" in GTE Am.
Hunter Thompson
To race the other moneybags, the amount of money that these guys wins with sponsor and win are enough for them ignore that they race in a low-tier championship.
That's why i said to eliminate those, with only the P1's (AJR's, Ginettas and others) with the GT3 (Mercs, Ferraris, Aston etc...)
Most guys racing on the competitive categories also race on LeMans and Burgerking 24h.
Landon Robinson

I finally finished Jr.'s concussion book the other day and him mentioning how crummy his last season was reminded me that Hendrick has actually been kind of shit since basically halfway through 2017. After Johnson won the first Dover race in 2017 HMS as a whole didn't win another race until Watkins Glen 2018. In total they have 5 points race wins in the last 2 1/3 seasons and 4 of those were the #9. Jimmie alone had 5 wins in 2016 and 3 in that first half of 2017.
i think he already made his mind on monday, he ain't getting his old crew back, he's no longer the top dog at hms, package is only getting worse every season

Is Carlos Slim going to pay for him wrecking the fuck out of Tifft for no reason
God damn it. I was initially blaming Byron for causing Jimmie to spin but after watching the replay of Jimmie's crash like 10 times, Jimmie simply went too deep in the corner.
Notice how he's extremely low against everyone else in the top pic, which is fine to do, not against the rules
However right before the contact with Byron he realized he was too deep and that he was going to hit the patch of grass (bottom pic) so he started moving up to avoid it. Only probelm is Byron was already at his door and had nowhere to go.
Had Jimme just been a foot or two higher into the turn I think he would have cleared the turn no problem. He was just too deep entering the turn and was doomed even before the turn happened.
Are you retarded? The car's already spinning in the second picture you fucking bus riding moron. He tried to turn down -lower- to keep out of the 24 right before the back end came around. He's extremely low because 1) they're 3 wide and 2) his braindead fuckhead of a teammate isn't giving him any room. Sure if he'd been higher he probably would have made it because he would have put that useless rich little shit in the wall like he deserved.

I feel so bad for Paul Menard. Here's this kid, worked his butt off his entire life, and can't get himself on a winning team like Penske. True. It's weird how hard they push their social media but don't produce anything worth putting on it. But at least you can get the Japanese highlight videos for like every Suzuka ever just about, complete with shit like famous seiyuu narration, extremely long vaguely erotic Coca Cola commercials, female TV presenters working a pit board in skimpy summer clothing, strange specially produced songs about the race, and stiffly translated English messages about how much they wish you could have been there.
it's usa's top motorcycling series (as far as i know), they race superbikes
Nolan Ortiz
Superbike fields are typically only ~13 bikes which causes the occasional stinker if one of the factory teams struggles or someone piles up a couple leaders and Stock 1000 is like watching a club race but it's pretty good. Hard to say what things will look like next year yet though even, the series is still new enough to be in that place where things could grow nicely or go straight into the shitter based on just a couple things happening.
Strictly speaking Supercross is the top motorcycle championship, and at this point some guys are starting to drop MotoAmerica for paid rides in Flat Track America rather than vice versa.
