Depends what you think the criteria for this award should be. Sneijder was definitely in with a shout if you value team achievements, he won the treble with Inter and led his team to the WC final being the joint top scorer of the competition as a midfielder. Messi only won a league title but individually he was on a completely different level to Sneijder and every other player in world football.
