Win an NBA championship

>Win an NBA championship
>Celebrate it by allowing their star player to leave after just one season
>Celebrate it by letting other key players leave too
>Much of the winning team is gone now
>The remaining players are no-names
>Unlikely to even make it past the first round in 2020, let alone repeat (assuming they even make the playoffs)
What did they mean by this? Why celebrate a championship by blowing it all up?

So the raptors are basically the monaco of the nba?

holy shit this bait is REALLY good

Raptors are the Marlins of the NBA

That's how American sports work. They've won their championship, now they have to be mediocre for a few years, then terrible for a few years so they can draft some good players. Hopefully in 20 years they'll be eligible to win again. Everybody gets a medal!

Other NBA teams weren't like that though. Usually when they win, they aim to at least repeat. But the Raptors, it's like they already gave up on repeating.

In American sports you get traded to other teams without having an opinion in the transfers. Leonard never wanted to go to Toronto, his idea was returning to LA. Now he left as a fee agent, that's literally the only time players in American leagues can exercise some power

In football players almost never leave in free agency (at least not stars), but they do get to chose where to get sold

They’re still the third best team in the East. Celtics suck, Pacers are decent but lost 3 key players + Oladipo’s missing most of the season, and the Nets are complete trash.

>They’re still the third best team in the East.
that aint sayin much, all the solid title contenders are in the west
