Imagine the existential dread LeBron must feel imagining what may unfold this year.
It’s hard to imagine the unlikely scenario of the Lakers, being comprised solely of AD and aged LeBron making their way to a high Playoff seed. They will wind up 6 or 7, depending on how badly they suffer during the intense load management that will occur immediately prior to the postseason.
The Clippers will almost certainly have a very high seed, as without Kawhi, Paul George, Harkless and, soon, Iguodala, they were a 48 win team. A 60 win season is near guaranteed. A first round matchup for the Lakers with a Kawhi lead Clippers, if lost, spells disaster in a number of ways.
LeBron is already disliked in LA and after the abysmal failure that was last season, he has no choice but to step up or die. If he loses in the first round, he will he unforgivably exiled from Los Angeles and is near guaranteed to leave the team. AD will depart first. Seeing as how he already abandoned Cleveland twice (fool me once) I dont think he will be able to go back home, so he will bounce to some other eager team - but he will be tarnished. It will be old LeBron, beaten, who ended his career fucking up on a historically winning team.
Then theres the issue of Kawhi being the one to land the death blow. Kawhi at this moment is in his absolute prime, its undeniable. Next season he will be gunning for MVP, and theres a good chance he will earn it. Kawhi has more motivation than ever to win, and says he will be “100%” next season. He has the makings of a potential GOAT and LeBron, at this moment, is the only other current NBA “GOAT” standing in his way.
With the passing of Kevin Durant, the playing field changed dramatically. Kawhi is LeBron’s only competition, and hes going to speed along the acquisition of his newfound title by burying him in his own house, ending his reign, destroying his reputation in LA and on the Lakers.
He will also have the same number of rings.
