It's like when the ARU axed the larger Western Force over the Melbourne Rebels all because Melbourne had a bigger population, even though Perth had the substantially larger rugby following. Tasmania should have a team, no reason why North Melbourne or something shouldn't be relocated down there.

I generally agree except for a few facts:
Hobart is really fucking tiny, current grounds are like 20,000 max capacity. For perspective the Suns averaged about 19,000 this year, and went above 20,000 in their first year. Your point about the Western Force is different because both Perth and Melbourne are at least big enough comparable markets, Hobart is just a backwater
The Gold Coast actually gets a lot of people from all over Australia so not all of them follow league and the Bears used to be based out of Metricon so there is a history there, see Zorko and Beams who are both from there. Even NEAFL and local AFL structures are more stable than the flipflopping Tasmania has done with their local league going bankrupt or something in recent memory and them putting together a composite side to play in the VFL
I don't think 90% of players want to be noticed, there are definitely enough guys who prefer the privacy, see Coniglio's resigning.
