Sorry mate, Stokes won't replace Flintoff unless he actually wins the Ashes. Win the Ashes, then he is undoubtedly better. As it is, they're roughly the same but Flintoff played a much much MUCH stronger Aussie team.

Not so much his batting record, but the rest of it. Stokes needs to win the ashes. Miracle day does nothing but prolongs the inevitable. England need to win the next two fucking tests. I don't see it happening.

First for anime.

amazing how any aussiefag is nowhere to be seen

Is that Warner?

toil/sleeping

>losing from an unloseable position

pretty grim that one

>England need to win the next two fucking tests
They can afford to draw one.

Cuck mentality that, which would explain why they won't.

Amazing how you can't keep some trees from being on fire mate

It's 1-1 and there have been as many Ozzies about as there were poms during the 67 all out. Which is, to be fair, not many.

Lads...

nzherald.co.nz/lifestyle/news/article.cfm?c_id=6&objectid=12261832&

Stokes has won the ashes already though in 2015. Took 6-36 to win the deciding test

if Jimmy comes back for the 4th test he'll probably have to replace Woakes

we're gonna have a genuine tail for the first time in yonks

Nah I mean the double. England need to win this to tie the total wins up. It would be literally impossible to say he isn't better if he did that.

I'd love to kick David Warner in the head. Just take a few steps run up then catch him with the full force of my steel capped toe under his chin, send that little faggot flying through the air.

As he lies on the floor, coughing and wheezing and chocking on his own blood, his jaw a mangled mess of bones detached from the rest of his skull, I stand over him and laugh wickedly. He looks up at me in fear and pain, his eyes searching, begging me for mercy. He finds none. I raise my boot then stomp down, splitting his skull like a melon and finally ending his pathetic life.

hi joe

Expecting rain any day now, which tbf sucks and we're back at how fucking stupid to play the tests this late in the summer.

Australia were doomed by that point though. Broad was rightly MotM for his 8-15.

some aussie is gonna report this

To be fair Woakes hasn't done much with the bat this series. Jimmy is going to be better with the ball obviously

Be funny if someone tweeted this to him imagine that lmao haha

will there ever be an innings of that much meme ever again

Attached: 07broadhandsovermouth[1].jpg (1200x778, 97K)

Most Australians are big basketball fans now that we're world number 1, hardly anyone follows the cricket here much anymore.

>you need arbitrary milestones to judge the quality of a player

same brainlet opinions you see in football and "needing trophies" to be considered good

>Flintoff played a much much MUCH stronger Aussie team.
Yeah. I reckon five of this England team would get in the 2005 team, Broad, Bairstow, Root, Archer, Stokes.
Not a single Aussie in this match would get in their 2005 team

same we're more of a rugby union nation anyway

scored 37*, 37, 32 in the first 2 tests

he's been pretty handy

Ireland didn't qualify so I'm bandwagoning the boomers, for the win.

Still can't believe what I saw today desu

Gotta say, what a lovely day. Including United & Spurs bottling.

Attached: trump.jpg (866x538, 69K)

Attached: Screenshot_20190825-220204_Chrome.jpg (1076x850, 294K)

Surely at least one of the Aussie fast bowlers would get in ahead of Gillespie or Lee. Not to mention Kasprowicz or Tait, although IIRC they were only in to substitute for McGrath.

>Broad has produced a clutch bowling spell to win the deciding match of the last three home ashes series
Is it, dare I say, inevitable

wouldn't mind a nando's desu

Great weekend for English sport overall, I was at the 57-15 demolition of Ireland yesterday.

Attached: IMG_20190824_145907.jpg (4160x2336, 3.75M)

Cummins or Hazlewood ahead of Dizzy maybe. Lee was better than both.

Except the quality of a player has to be judged against what he wins. He isn't even English so this is all rather irrelevant and no matter what he does people will say it doesn't count. But winning the double and doing it due to this test would make it basically impossible to say there is any better player in the modern era and he'll be mentioned in the Top 25 somewhere.

Essentially. 2005 Aussie was so stacked that Flintoff memeing a win from it with the rest of the gang makes him one of the greats. Stokes is incredibly good, yes, but he needs to win this Ashes and then he can flop for the rest of his career.

And by Top 25 and modern era player, I mean 'player who played for England' rather than in general. There is obviously better non-'English' batsmen and bowlers.

>raisin Yorkies
Revolting.

What a lovely view. Rugby World Cup should be a laugh.

If England go on to win from here, he's going to have won a world cup and Ashes in one summer, having made a massive, brass bollocked contribution at vital moments in both.

What do you shout to him to give him encouragement after his latest delivery?

Attached: Lyon-e1539748357379-980x530[1].jpg (980x530, 81K)

warm-up games don't matter and we don't care for rugby anyway, this week is All-Ireland Football Final

Cummins over Lee possibly. Not a fan of underrating Gillespie, absolute beast of a bowler.

just realised Brian Lara was rubbish because his team lost all the time

BOOOOOWWWWLLLLINNNGGG GAAAZZZZAAAAAAAA

Yes, that's exactly my point mate. If he does it, he will be a player you cannot ignore when you start talking about 'best english players'.

YES GAZZA
I FUCKED YOUR WIFE GAZZA
SO DID THE REST OF THE TEAM GAZZA

>He isn't even English

he's more English than he is kiwi, yes he was born there but he moved here young.

Not statistically he wasnt...

>best english players'.

people were talking about comparing him to flintoff, not about being a great. flintoff isn't really considered a great, he just had an intense spell of form that won a series. Career as a whole was mediocre

He was 12 when his family moved over to Cumbria and he has only played cricket in England, so he is definitely a product of English cricket. He is a kiwi too which makes him stronger.

Not sure if this has been posted here before but the likeness is uncanny.

Attached: nathan_lyon.jpg (598x439, 42K)

NICE SKIN COLOUR GARRYYYYYY

Smith and Cumins would get in instead of Damian Martin and Gillespie

He went to Cockermouth High School. Which is an incredibly memeworthy place to live.

>yeah we'll have a review mate

>should have been at the last two days of the test
>after the 67 collapse my wife talked me into going to some shitty charity auction instead

Attached: mfw.jpg (750x515, 67K)

>Yeah we'll have a fifth consecutive away Ashes defeat mate

Attached: PAINE.jpg (600x400, 59K)

I have friends from Cockermouth and have spent a long bank holiday weekend there before. Proper comfy place.

2bh I'd take Stokes over Flintoff.

When it comes to batting I don't think it's much of a contest, Stokes is much better and he's also super versatile as we saw in this test. Can grind out innings as well switch up and dominate the attack.

Bowling it becomes different, Flintoff was genuinely unplayable at his peak but that was for a small part of his career. Stokes also is similar in that he has extremely penetrating spells where he takes bundles of wickets. He's also a good variation due to his angle and release point, but ultimately he can be inconsistent/expensive. However his bowling is still valuable, so overall I'd rather have Stokes.

Nice place for the odd visit though. Shame the founder couldnt forsee how much of a piss-poor choice that name would be.

I swear englands won in australia literally once in like the last 40 years?

Gillespie was woeful in 2005. Hazelwood and Cumgod are insanely good bowlers.

One of my mates went to school there. Same time as Stokes. Doesn't remember him though.

Three times if you include 78-79.

Yeah but we have at least won the Ashes away from home more recently than Australia have.

Literally one Auscunt in this entire thread.
Safe to assume every single one of them has committed ritual suicide.

That's more of a symptom of modern cricket though. Home conditions seem to favour the home side much more than they used to, but maybe that's just my perception.

...

If he developed purely as a bowler, sorted out his action and didnt have his injury threats, he coulda been genuinely good bowler. Tall, pace, bounce.

Nah, they're dead.

Most of Flintoff's big innings were beating up some tired Windies or Kiwi attack who'd been bowling at Trescothick or Vaughan all day. He was more of a slog a 50 in a low scoring match than playing a truly great innings like Stokes today

>umpries win the world cup for us
>umpires win us the 3rd test of the ashes
are we the bad guys now?

Attached: file_0.png (1920x1080, 2.86M)

Not enough tour matches nowadays and the ones they do get are against inferior opposition. Touring sides used to spend the whole summer in-country playing proper red-ball cricket and acclimatising to local conditions.

Yeah i reckon starc, hazelwood, cummins, pattnson could all compete and obvie S Smith.

Why does it say the original decision was Out?

because that's what it should've been

kek yeah didn't notice that blunder

Headingley tests are always kino

not according to the umpire :^)

>are we the bad guys now?
Yes and I'm loving it.

I love how the pitch doesn't just steadily deteriorate and give an unearned advantage to the side batting first. Test cricket would be so much better if it were easier to bat in the 4th innings.

*wastes all the pooviews*

Doesn't seem to help that players play Big Gash or IPL. If you're playing pyjama cricket regardless it doesn't seem to help you with red ball conditions.

Listening to TMS, Vaughan literally says 'all Stokes has to do is hit a six and then a single and he'll win the game in about 11 overs', as a joke

Still don't think >we can win the series because the batting lineup is so fucking awful. Literally just Root and Stokes and a load of bums.

what you want me to do m8 i'm not a amazon indio or something lol

>why did an umpire stick to the rules????
>why did an umpire make a decision which could have been overwritten by a Review but said Review had been burnt earlier because they never expected Stoakes to do anything
We're not the baddies. This is how competitive games work. Australia literally have cheated and were seen doing dodgy shit at the World Cup (early ball changes).

nah this general is infested by them at all times no matter what, they're just seething

anyone got that guide to sp/cric language?

stokes been given 6 instead of 5 in the WC was outside the rules, and not giving a plumb lbw is inexcusable regardless of how many reviews are left

both great wins no doubt but the incidents take the shine off them a bit imo

umm..why do you need it bla x

tbf that umpire decision was shocking af. Was plum. Convinced the umpire wanted England to win. I think we all woulda done the same. 2 runs to go for a beautiful story. Why ruin it.

>and not giving a plumb lbw is inexcusable regardless of how many reviews are left

these things go both ways, they gave us tons of howler decisions too, Root got given out on a massive inside edge - difference is they didn't waste their reviews

only reason this one gets more attention is because it happened at the pivotal moment - however it was no more significant than all the others

explain to a mate the lingo without having to actually explain it myself

If he gives it it's the narrowest margin in history, and he gets to be in the clip every time like Billy Bowden
>Jones… Bowden… Kasprowicz the man to go

Labushagne plus Smith is concerning

The oppo batting lineup is literally just Smith and Lasagne and a load of bums. Also their only win of the series so far came when England had to spend almost the entire game a bowler down and they would very likely have lost otherwise.

SIR Ben Stokes
SIR Éirezona Sebbo
SIR Blabla Sebbo

Who’s the lad from Sutherland?

pipe down m8, raisin and biscuit yorkies are patrician

Warner's lack of form is amusing and useful but breaking that Smith-Labushagne partnership is gonna be rough. If the bowlers go searching we could see some serious totals.

And let's not forget that it isn't in an umpire's interest to fuck up. Wilson's career must be on thin ice now after the number of mistakes he's made in this series.

smells fat in here all of a sudden

Just watched the filme "mother"

Hmmm Very symbolic I must say

But on the other hand an Anderson-Broad-Archer-Stokes pace attack promises to be England's best in a long time. Is going to be a great contest.

If Anderson doesn't break down yeah. Really looking forward to him coming back actually and once he has a couple spells under his belt I'll feel confident. Woakes is great but he's looked a bit off. I want a good send off for Anderson and where better to start. If he gets it swinging he could do for Smith as well.

Are England abit shit and lucky or decent enough with poor performances lads?

My minds full of fuck.

MR HICKEY YOU WILL PUT DOWN THAT GRAPHITE AT ONCE

Attached: cq5dam.web.1200.675[1].jpg (1200x675, 158K)

Stokes bowling is strange. It's expensive trash for 85% of the time, then really penetrative for the odd innings. Flintoff was far better, and better than his stats show.
He's obviously a better bat, but I think now is the time for him to really show it. He can be better than a 35 average in tests.

>reading comprehension
wd me

Shit but lucky. Reminds me of old England when we just sort of hoped someone would do a Botham and rescue us

The 67 all out seems to have chastened them into batting properly. Don't think we'll see too much of that brainless 'natural game' nonsense any more so they should look a lot more solid.

Yeah totally get what you mean saying that.
All I'd say is it think we have more decent individuals that only turn up every 3 to 4 innings

bob willis with the taste of humble pie still lingering in his mouth

Why do spin bowlers encourage more noise and chatter from the keeper/fielders... even if it's just an "oyyyyee"?

Is this just a meme that has been passed down through the years?

Attached: 1558218814436.png (612x491, 98K)

You some lager lout on holiday in benidorm?

Youll never beat Harmison-Hoggard-Flintoff-Jones-WheelieBin

So long as Roy is there I wouldn't count on that.

The problem is that the bowling attack puts England in great positions that the batsmen keep fucking up.

There are microphones in the stumps. When a spinner is bowling the fielders are closer to the stumps so you can hear them chatter

Nah lived in Seville a few years. Thankfully never been near the Brit enclaves except for Gibraltar which is the weirdest place I've ever been.

Theyd do it more for pace bowlers if the fielders were close enough

It's a psychological thing. You're putting it in the batsman's head that every ball is a cracker, spitting out of the rough and was half an inch from getting them out.

Don't act like you're anything but disgraceful in Australian conditions. You're marginally more competitive than Pakistan or Sri Lanka here. At least we compete every away Ashes series.

If Roy isn't dropped I will lose my shit.

I hate Giles so much. There seemed to be a national campaign to cover for his useless arse. Friendly reminder that in the 2005 Ashes he averaged 20 with the bat and 50 (FIFTY) with the ball. Was dead weight along with Bell. And since retiring the dickhead is still causing trouble as a coach/executive.

Aussies lel

Cant believe Jack Leach is getting free glasses for life from specsavers for doing nothing. My dead paraplegic gran could have done it.

Never implied otherwise. Just enjoying England's long winning streak in home Ashes series and hoping that it continues.

Mate he done his job. It was a proper effort at the end from both of them. Was he supposed to swing at it more and give them a wicket?

We literally had nobody better than Giles. At least he could hold an end up, our alternative was someone like Ian Salisbury

Based sebbo

If it was just about holding an end up (which is all Giles was good for) then better to pick a specialist batsman who bowled part-time, like Collingwood.

Stokes was the only one to hit a 6 in this test and he got eight of them.
Literally channeling pressure into performance.

Exactly right. That squandered review the previous over was disgraceful - a blind man could see it was pitching outside.

Good win englel. Genuinely enjoyable test, now that I've had a good sleep to wash away the tears and poopies.

Friendly reminder of this GET. Queen Elizabeth, make it happen!

>Following the third ODI against West Indies at Bristol in September 2017, Stokes was arrested in the early hours of the morning after a street brawl near a nightclub, at which teammate Alex Hales was also present.[42] He was released by the police whilst they continued their investigation. This incident led to these two players missing the fourth game of the series, with a hand injury ruling Stokes out of the final game. The Sun released video footage that it claimed showed Ben Stokes punching two men.[43][44] Stokes was initially named in the England squad for the 2017–18 Ashes, but with the legal process still ongoing, he was later withdrawn.[45] He also lost his apparel sponsorship with New Balance.[46]

>Shortly after being arrested in September 2017, a video emerged which showed Stokes mimicking Katie Price’s disabled son. Stokes later apologised for his actions on Twitter and offered to meet with Price and her son to support their petition against online bullying.[47][48]

>Stokes was charged on 15 January 2018, along with two other men, with affray. He appeared before Bristol Magistrates' Court on 13 February 2018,[49] where he pleaded not guilty. He then joined the English team in Hamilton for the New Zealand series, for the ECB put its own disciplinary process on hold whilst the legal proceedings were in progress.[50]

>The affray trial started on 6 August 2018, which ruled him out of the second Test match against India. On 14 August he was acquitted.[51][52]

>The question of homophobia was a key part of coverage of the trial. Stokes was accused by the prosecuting lawyer of lying to the jury about whether he flicked a cigarette at the gay couple he claimed to be defending, as well as whether he "mimicked and mocked" the couple.[53] Despite this, the couple thanked Stokes for defending them, asserting that he “didn’t deserve being put through a trial”

>tfw couldn't watch this because had to spend time with the missus

Honestly it's not fucking worth it

It's not actually that easy to hold up an end in test cricket.
That's why England go through so many shit spin bowlers these days. They all get tonked around, so they're worse than useless.

Why did the Aussies keep bowling it short?

Honestly baffled by this.
Could have put one round Leach's legs no trouble.

Honestly think they got trapped (Cummies especially) into this "bouncer war" thing and tried to bowl too many. Leach just ducked them.

Psychological cooking. When a fast bowler is under pressure the easiest thing is to bowl short. It feels mean and tough, and stops you getting driven.
McGrath was so good at keeping it on that unpleasant length even if the batsman was coming after him, strongmind

>australia clear favourites, expected to be a formality for them
>win the first match convincingly according to the script, pressure on lara at breaking point
>comes out in kingston, smashes a double winning the game by 10 wickets
>follows it up with that innings in bridgetown, taking the series to 2-1 turning the series on it's head and putting one of the best sides in test cricket history under pressure
series ended up being a draw, but still it was one of the great individual performances in a series

and it's happening next game as well

At least this has let you work out Labuschagne is better than you other "batsmen", aside from Smoff.

would you fuck up cunt. appreciate the game, you witnessed one of the best.

Woakes out, Jimmy In, Denly opens with burns Roy down the order. Anderson, Broad, Stokes, Archer and Leach in the attack,

Mate do you taste metal?

they were unironically more seething about New Zealand's loss (on boundaries) to us in the world cup final than they themselves losing

Well there's not much point picking Woakes when spacker Root won't bowl him.

rather go for Pope than Roy down the order, guy averages almost 60 in FC cricket over 2 seasons

Could be a shout but does he have a Test record, FC isn't exactly the same level

he does.. he got dropped after only 3 innings though (averaged 28 which lets be honest is better than Roy anyway). He looked technically solid, just had a poor temperament trying to score every ball. To be fair those balls were swinging miles in that series vs India and the indian seam attack was very potent.

But Roy's been given over twice as many chances now.

Pattinson out Starc in
Khawaja out someone from the crowd in
Paine out, Wade in to wicketkeeper and proxy captain for Smith
Harris out, fly in Finch (cant do any worse)

Roy 9th. See if he does better against tired bowlers. Could be an ultimate clutch partnership going.

Imagine, if you will, if this loss had happened to India. Ooo la la!

If you follow closely the sports the Aussies compete in against us you'd know exactly what I mean.

Whereas as shit as Roy has been he's got experience all over the world at high level cricket, as much as I hate myself for saying it, I'd give him another match (not as an opener) and if he fucks it he is out.

he averaged 18 actually now I checked, 28 was his high score

still better than Roy and he barely had a chance before they dumped him

Attached: firefox_X9kZfiAsHs.png (357x59, 3K)

experience all over the world in ODIs yeah no thanks

I'd rather go for someone who's faced a swinging duke ball in FC for tests than an ODI merchant. He's shown he's clearly not cut out for it over 8 innings.

Yes and no. He's clearly not qualified for the elite level but he was basically an emergency promotion - 7 of the 12 elites are Australian or English so not eligible to do this series. He's safe because of that for a bit.

What's India's excuse for providing zero elite level umpires?

international rules football :)
which is a strange affair because its literally millionaires vs unpaid amateurs who work weekday jobs. though i'm told the AFL has been sending less stellar players so the pay gap may have narrowed slightly.

Fuck off tottenham, they’re as a big a bunch of bottlers as Australia

In bed lads, thinking of cricket.

cookey referencing brian lara cricket on tms

Stokes/Leach partnership had a batting strike rate of 122.58. Leach will be telling his grandkids that and keeping the details to himself.

It happens, mate.

As the years go on he’ll start attributing more and more of the boundaries to himself until one day when he’s about 90 and he’s telling everyone that Stokes hung on for a 1*

They called it Shane Warne Cricket ’99 in Australia whereas everywhere else it was Brian Lara Cricket, didn't know that (not uncommon in sport games).

she's even on the channel 5 commentary

It’s impossible to fucking escape her, she was commentating on sky with a mouthful of fucking cake or something earlier

Can’t stand her

pisses me off there are guys like bob key and mark butcher putting the hours in on the lower tier stuff just been blocked from getting a "promotion". Though who knows what the sky commentary line-up will look like after this series since the bulk of the oldsters are apparently being shown the door.

>Ben Stokes has played two innings of a lifetime in the space of six weeks - the latest fuelled by a "knock-off Nando's and two Yorkie bars".

Bet stokes bashed a couple gays after that innings lads, with all that adrenaline going through his veins he probably couldn't help himself.

Congratulations to New Zealand for having such an accomplished player originate from their country

After ravaging their boipuccis, yeah. Whilst screaming HOWS THAAATTTT.

I feel he hurt enough poofs during the innings.

Need to drop Roy from the side lads. He's shit at test cric.

They'll have Boycott out any minute for being too white and old. I hate that other bint even more, whomever she is. The one that's not Isa (though she is also shit)

allison mitchell? BT had her on too when they had the coverage last ashes.

That's the one. She just never has anything interesting to say - ever. She'll report on what's happening, sure, but has 0 insight into what it means or why it's happening.

Is it even possible for Australia to recover?

Such a grim timeline.

as it stands Australia retains

been perusing the twittersphere, kinda sad seeing all these footie names into the cricket and tweeting about it this match yet all the replies are basically seething grimland plebs saying cricket is the worst thing ever invented

the match was way too memey for a test match.

Last night was fucking tragic for us but you can't fault Stokes for his god-tier effort

Hope his back isn't too sore after carrying the entire English team, you'll need him fit for us to have a ripper game next test

Australia have a higher chance of winning than Engpakis. Australia wins next one, they retain the ashes. Australia wins the final one, they retrain the ashes. They need to only win once.

If lyon had completed that run out, would jack leach have survived getting out of the ground?

So do England desu, they only need a win and a draw.
But yeah I'd say the odds favour Australia, one man team Stoke can't win every game by himself.

is this the moment

Attached: FUMBLED.jpg (920x518, 130K)

He was never going to complete the run out. Lyin Lyon should be investigated for match fixing desu

That's Paine watching his captaincy crash and burn

why's he such an autist about his popped collar?

Except I do not expect them to win shit. 67, mate. 67. Where are the runs coming from? England need to suddenly become God-Like in their entire batting order to get past 200 or have Elder God tier players like Stokes rekt it up.

He's Tasmanian (so am I), we're right under the ozone hole and the sun will burn your neck in 15 minutes mid summer. A lot of bogans and boomers do it down here instead of just being liberal with sunscreen.

please just make smith captain again

people are gay and have shit opinions, what else is new.

batting standards have corroded to the point where the whole format is a meme but this was still amazing to watch.

Roy needs to be dropped asap. He hasn't scored fucking anything, at all, this entire series, nor has he taken the shine off by staying on for a decent amount of time. He's a walking wicket and has dropped a few catches in the field too. What's the fucking point of having a specialist batsman at number 2 who doesn't score any runs and is out within 20 minutes?

I'll give him one thing though, his consistency is great. He never scores anything worthwhile.

He has another year until he's allowed, that's according to user from earlier today.

Lyon is so autistic lel

The moment was just after that when Stokes got bowled out and the Umpire decided he would rather have England win.

It's pretty bad hopefully he gets a chance to make up for it with a couple of 5 fors and help defeat the Anglo scourge.

Better than Glenn McGrath doesn't make her good though.

NICE BALDING GAZZAAA

england footie plebs

Why didn’t Australia use the meme formation where literally everyone crowds around the batter so that any slight nick will be grabbed? I’m sure someone has the picture.

great day for test cricket, stokes did great and india absolutely mopped the floor with WI

Only good for shit batsmen. Stokes would just knick it over their heads for 4

austrailia doesnt even have to win right, if they can force a draw then they retain the ashes by default

Honestly reckon all of Australia tastes like metal right now

>all the good guys lost
come on mate

Exactly mate. But who do you replace him with? I am forever pessimistic about England. One min we're world beaters, bring it the fuck on, the other we're all out for 81(?) against fucking Ireland, all out for 67 against, lets face it, a rather poor Australia team and certainly nowhere near the best in the 21st century. What the fuck is going on? How does England collapse so fucking hard? This isn't just a cricket thing either. Rugby, England twatted No.2 team in the world by a record amount on Saturday, we destroyed them. But come September at the World Cup, we'll probably go out to fucking Namibia, Russia and Canada.

I am sick of it. I'm sick of glaring issues in teams not being fucking fixed and when people bring it up, the manager/coach never goes 'Yeah we're not replacing him because X Y Z' at least that gives a reason. Daley needs to be replaced in Rugby. In terms of England football, so many things need fixing. As for cricket? Honestly there are so many issues because nobody bar Stokes and maybe Archer seems to ever bring anything major to the table.

I probably am under that definition, but I don't use social media so.

Le monetone voice and shitty banter attempts meme token woman.

I mean it's better than Warne when he was banging on about "lose to win", but yeah I'd take any of the other sky commentators any day.

Warne was actually great value this test particularly for the bit of England time wasting before lunch the other day.

Yes, another way of looking at it is that it is now a 2 test series.

down to you wasting your reviews

england would have gotten howlers too but they didn't waste them, balances out

> But who do you replace him with?

that are plenty of players who've people been screaming for Ed Smith to select 2bh, I can't see Roy playing the 4th test unless Ed Smith truly is retarded

So true. Can’t have Ausfailia without failure.

Smith would get into the 2005 team for sure and Hazlewood wound be the 3rd fast bowler after McGrath and Gillespie desu.

Sorry mate, I'll rephrase; who would you replace him with?

Sibley, Pope.. two names literally smashing down the door before I even have to energise a single brain cell

Unironically like Warne as a commentator. He talks a load of shit sometimes but he's got good insights, especially on the psychological side of the game.

Holy shit he literally seethed in a press conference over that lbw.

youtu.be/tDOga7H5Yyg?t=366

Attached: T. Seethe.png (1130x615, 1.02M)

Sam Curran, Ben Foakes are two other possible names in the hat for players who actually have a couple of brain cells knocking around

Excellent innings by Stokes, especially with how he protected Leach.
Anyway, don't really care muchbas Aussies still superior overall

Did we get an update on this

The greatest all-rounder in Australian history was Adam Gilchrist

Definitely agree with a lot here.

In terms of the cricket though I think we have a real penchant for losing the ashes at home for no good reason. The England teams all across the years have made up this meme of 'pressure' that is a truly pervasive mind virus and makes everyone play like shit. either that or Boycott is right and the game has degenerated massively and proper batting is simply not taught anymore

Yeah desu Australia deserved to win that on performance, England were literally blessed with conditions and umpcalls. Day 1 batting was fucked.

Seethe comes to the fore after a fractured and grief-stricken sleep.

>seethed in a press conference over that lbw.

if only some mong hadn't wasted a review 2 mins earlier

Umm i think you're forgetting me sweaty

Attached: mm.png (478x381, 240K)

Of these only sibley is actually a possibility because he can open. No point adding another middle order player

>a rather poor Australia team and certainly nowhere near the best in the 21st century. What the fuck is going on? How does England collapse so fucking hard?

this is a poor australian team becuase of their batting, not their bowling. This is a top tier bowling lineup and these conditions perfectly suited in the first innings, perfect seaming conditions

you just smell like a massive cazzie 2bh, yes 67 all out is pathetic but it's not against a weak bowling attack

stupid argument

>I don't need to see a replay
So he wouldn't have reviewed it anyway if he didn't want to see it again

>he thinks roy is opening again

OH NONONON

Ollie Pope is injured, is he not? Or am I thinking of somebody else?

It was pretty clear cut, Umpire should have seen it himself.

nah he was roy's concussion sub (everyone was hoping he'd fail) this test

Based sebbo

They're going to put Denly back at 2 and he'll be out at 26 runs exactly. Screencap this.

What about Dawid Malan? Haseeb Hameed?

I'm guessing you've not watched cricket in a good 1 and a half years

Why is Joseph (not calling him Jos because that's retarded) Buttler in the test side if he's not even keeper?

Lmao Hameed just got dropped from his county team for being shit, his career is long over.

Malan I thought did show promise but no point not giving denly another run out now.

not as stupid as the review

Just let them go in to next test unchanged, this stokes innings will paper over some massive cracks in their team.

>haseeb hameed
>literally got released by his DIVISION 2 SHITTER side recently because he's that bad

embarrassing to suggest that

because the selectors are fucking retarded and wanted to meme the world cup squad into the test series.

buttler should be behind the stumps if he plays at all. It's absolutely ridiculous that they've got him in the side in this context.

No point replacing Roy with someone you know will have the same problem. Need a real opener or they will just be Roy 2.0

Malan was shit. He played like 15 tests and almost 30 innings and never showed any promise. He scored an easy 100 on an aussie road and rode it for way too long but kept averaging around 20

he's terrible hope he's blacklisted from tests

Cummins told him it pitched in line. Another case of stupid fast bowler syndrome.

So, how do we fix Australian and English batting?
For Aus
Smith needs to play whenever he can, always at 4
Warner is definitely staying, the ball he got out to in the second innings was a great ball.
As for Labuschagne, i am always hesitiant to jerk them off after a few good innings but he needs to come in at 3, he shows he can handle the newish ball well enough but his ultimate test will be against Anderson next match.
Head i would move maybe one more down and put Wade in ahead of him.
The other opener is in a tight spot, i reckon move Koala in to open, give him a chance
As for England i am sure you poms know more

Except I also stated the 85 all out against fucking Ireland which isn't a fucking excuse. That cannot be explained away with 'Australia has a good bowling lineup'. Explain to me how that happened. Going 'perfect conditions' and shit again is just a mitigator. A good team will win whatever the conditions. As I said, England can do shit like happened a few hours ago.
>Archer gets 6-45
>Everybody is hyped
>We can win this test!
>England all out for 67
>One man saves it and does it by pure fucking luck
Again, how do we go from superb team performance in bowling to shit batting? And then manage to save it with good batting later?

such a dumb opinion, anyone is better than Roy because Roy has shown he is 100% a free wicket. You're assuming Roy will magically stop being a free wicket (lol?) and at the same time someone who is a middle order batsman in FC with a 60 average will fail just as spectacularly guaranteed.

But let's be honest that won't happen, they'll move Denly to opener and move the replacement down the order. Roy is toast either way.

England won the match, but we won the story of the fight.

>A good team will win whatever the conditions.

>england won both games

Attached: 1445262660533.jpg (500x502, 188K)

no business being there, upsets the whole dynamic.

Swap cook for Roy. Easy.

Can't say I have mate. I seemed to remember he had great debut for England.

AH that sucks. I'm out of touch. What happened to Dominic Bess or Keaton Jennings?

Your suggestions for aus are pretty good. what would you do with Pat Cummins? What about Paine, if you could get rid of him I assume you would lel.

As for us, fuck. Root down to four. Bairstow up the order a point, and don't let him fucking wicket keep, he's too short and fat. Put Buttler as keeper.

Remove Roy entirely, pad up Geoffrey Boycott in his place. Burns is fine where he is. Put Leach in at 3. The rest of it can sort itself out.

I think we should have tried to get Stokes out.

>pure fucking luck
Man I can tell you've not played much cricket. Luck is basically not a factor in high level cricket particularly on the batting side of things. If you're not good you will be out, and quickly.

Bess is a spinner and basically straight up worse than Leach, plays for Somerset 2nds if I recall. Jennings had a long run but as with all our openers was just bad.

Haseeb got an injury and basically was terrible ever since, hence he even lost his county contract.

Shit opening batsman force momentum from players facing new ball, bowlers confidence, extra batter pressure etc. Our middle order would actually be fine if we fix the real problem.

you've unfortunately won the moral victory because an umpire didn't see that stokes was clearly out or just straight didn't want england to lose.

But in fairness its your terrible captaincy that's led you to this point. Paines got like 3 reviews right in his entire career, he's so shit at it lol.

lots more english flags than usual for some reason

Attached: 1317029837772.jpg (477x345, 89K)

Knew >we'd lose as soon as lunch hit. Pretty good game, honestly. I don't know why commentators were so sure that Australia would easily bowl them out. It's a day 4 pitch. Ben Stokes is probably England's saving grace since the 2013/2014 series. Lad's clutch.

No mate, it was pure luck that Lyon fumbled and the LBW wasn't called out and lucked out that the review had been burned. That's my point. That's luck. There is no 'skill' involved with a high quality level fumble happening.

Why do you think I'm saying keep Roy?

He top scored for us down under that series and has been going well in the county champ. Surely can't be worse than Roy or Denly.

Curran and Stone? Vince? Way out of time.

you make your own luck

these things always happen in cricket, differnece is most the time the match isn't hanging in the balance at that singular decision. In this case Stokes managed to put the pressure on and when that luck went his way (as often does happen in cricket) it happened at the most pivotal moment of the game. You're a complete casual if you don't see that.

Cummins will be captain for a decade

How long will this seethe last? I don’t want it to end.

Not a single English flag in this thread.

>Lyon fumbled

That isn't luck, that's the other team having an absurd autistic jewish vampire as a bowler. He's a spastic that doesn't mean Ben Stokes' luck magically warped reality so he couldn't collect a simple throw.

As for the umpire shit, that also isn't luck. It's not 'lucky.' It was a decision made by a sentient being, probably who knew it was out and just wanted the series to go on. Umpires are shit at the moment, and Australia have also benefited from this. That doesn't mean that they're just 'lucky' or 'unlucky.'

Dislike the notion that its only luck that allowed stokes to win the match desu. Pretty silly thing of you to say.

Probably the most meme way Root avoided getting out this series was when he reviewed a caught behind off a ball he missed which hit the top of off stump but didn't dislodge the bails.

Pat Cummins is our best bowler? wdym

The problem is we dont have any other keepers
Cant remember how Wade is with the gloves, but if we had another batsman for 5 or 6 i would give Wade keeper and Captain. I feel like Wade understands the game more
As for Cummins i was solely talking about batting. Don't expect much from bowlers when they come out to bat. Always bad to hype up a bowler who had a good innings or two with the bat

fuck off

That one was fucking hilarious. Do remember me dear old dad saying from the other room that Root walks off when he's out, he knows if he's hit it or not.

don't do that you'll upset folks minds

>wade keeping

Attached: WadeKeeping.webm (640x360, 293K)

Reckon this is a pom false flag tbqh.

Because he's a quality batsmen with good technique who has shown reasonable promise at a test level, and a strong mind in tough odi situations. Perhaps he needed a break after the WC but I think he's got a future in this team.

It's useful to keep the two keepers both in practice I think, since we have the luxury.

root = a cute

Yeah but who else is handy with the bat and can keep for us?
I wish we had a better batting lineup so we could pick a better keeper solely on their gloves ability

Se sounds so much like that other female commentator they used for the India series I genuinely thought they were the same person. Actually have to mute whenever she's on.

Until smoth and labuschagne get to the crease and we lose the 4th test after 600-3

Unless they are frantically changing the old Trafford and oval pitches we are still at the mercy of a very good Ozzie bowling attack with questionable batting all through the order

Except my point is, friend, that a good team would never have gotten to the stage where you relied on a fumble and no review for a LBW. A good team wouldn't have been bowled out for 67 and would have built a good total. I was a country level field hockey player, played football for my town club and played basketball, badminton, rugby and field hockey for my school. Luck exists, of course it does. The difference is, luck is ridden for sure, but if my team has to rely on pure luck or decisions to go your way, then you're not as good as you think. Which is what I said. A good (remember England are the World Cup winners) team does not need such amount of luck in such a short period of time to win games. They should be good enough to win it.

No mate, Stokes was on fire today which is what I originally said earlier on. I said he was Elder God tier. But those decisions and events ARE down to luck. I'm not saying that Stokes did what he did due to luck, of course he didn't, but those two particular events were literally game enders and they so happened to benefit Stokes (and England). My point is, a really good team would not require a single player to do what he did. I'm not saying a single player cannot run a team to success, there is plenty of examples of that in other sports, I'm saying that a good TEAM would not be slumping to 67 all out. Nor 85 all out against minnows. They won, yes, but there is blatant issues that needs to be fixed and I do not know what the solution is. I do not get the flip flop. I don't get what the other members are doing or thinking that allows them to fuck up.

Again, not shitting on Stokes of a wonder performance. I am asking why England, as a team, flipflops. Yes, I understand that is sport and all that jazz. But good teams win repeatedly. Australia having as many World Cups as they do in cricket proves they are a good team. They can win regularly. The amount of Ashes they have won, proves this. England? I dunno.

we're going to get raped by smith in the next test. I'm genuinely scared for that menace to come back to the crease.

Unless King Jofra literally kills him there's no way we're winning the series.

>luxury of 2 keepers

yes but there is foakes banging down the door.. who is the best gloveman of all 3 and in fact did well in the tests he played in

Jennings was only good against the meme SL team but got horribly exposed after

I believe that the selectors really dislike his technique but are open to consider him again as he's still young so might improve in that aspect

Please tell me, like seriously, please tell me we dont have joke umpires again for next test

hahahaha

Attached: hercweuic.png (1287x226, 27K)

Jennings got plenty of time before SL, he stunk arse. But he managed to hold on long enough to get to SL where he made that century that let him stay way longer than he should have.

Only just checked her Wikipedia page. She's only 34 but last played in 2011. So she retired at 26. N injuries. Who retires at 26? Is that just a woman thing? I don't get it.

Ok, I see your point better. The Lyon fumble still isn't luck imo, it's just Lyon being a butterfingers silly boy. But I get what your overall point is. By the way, we've won 32 ashes and Australia 33. There isn't that much between us historically.

>like 60% of umpires are aussie or english

BAD LUCK

I'm not sure on this one. He did seem great but is averaging under 30 in the counties this year which is quite a bit of a red flag

made enough money. knew that commentary was the place to go with her looks and affirmative action hires in double overtime for the cricket.

Who cares about the game when you could care about having a super cushy job sitting around watching handsome men hit and throw and catch stuff and make fuck tons of money for eating catered food.

(Im not mad._)

>and those umpires are the best
JUST FUCK MY SERIES UP

>next test is 9 days away

but why

My Dad told me to always get in front of the stumps because with an LBW no matter how plumb it looks the umpire still has to give it out.

why are there no indian umpires

guess they can't be countered on as being impartial for one dayers

Your dad knew his shit. A lot of genuine LBWs are not given out. A fucking lot. If you're playing in any format that doesn't have DRS, you're going to get away with a decent amount of them.

I was playing the other day and we had a fast bowler hit the cunt at the crease plum in the middle of his back leg, low middle stump - 0 question about it. Took his time thinking like it was anything other than obvious and then didn't give it out. Fuming

in fairness to the batsman he did the right thing, had his legs in the way even though he fucked the shot.

When I was a kid I used to have a decent open chest action, throwing it down at pace on a good line and length. Batsmen couldnt fucking get off on me at all. Odd thing was that the ball naturally swung in for me. Was my stock ball. And then occasionally Id straighten it. I had a deadly floatball too. Split fingers. And an accurate yorker. The pitches were ultimately dogshit though.

DRS would have made no difference if they hadn't rigged it to favour aussies

how the hell is that three reds? There wasn't much spin on it and it was clearly going wide. the fuck is wrong with DRS there? I don't really understand the technohlochy

>Nathan Lyon
>right arm swing bowler

thats still enough hitting the stumps for a red

it wasn't hitting the stumps and you know it. Jesus people from Oceania are dumb.

appropriate that stokes grew up in the most kino part of england

Needs to be 50%+, thus the centre has to be hitting. Looks like it's clipping there mate. Umpires call from the most based umpire of all - Joel Wilson

Reckon Australia are mental midgets when it comes to big moments

England are basically comeback kings now, how the tables have turned

Have we determined why Paine insisted on setting a field that allowed Stokes to turn 1s and 2s at will with little to no pressure on him?
There's been plenty said about the fumble, the reviews, the umps. What about the absolute shit field placement for a full hour before?

He only did it on the 6th ball. Big brain Stokes countered this by instead taking the single on the 5th ball when it was open and praying Leach survived the final ball

Which inevitably was some length dross

>Jesus people from Oceania are dumb.
lol

Stokes maxed out on the luck tree

>meanwhile lambshanks is dropped 3 times and put on a no ball before not even making a century anyway
>new Steve Smith guys!!11

by your own clearly bias estimates far more than half of the ball would be hitting

i dont really care since its poostralia but at least get your facts right my dude

That LBW being called not out was shocking. Stokes played well, but fuck mate that was out. Paine seething was well justified.

Just one side mate. Clearly less than 50%. DRS was CLEARLY being fiddled to favour Australia here.

>wait patiently for SL v NZ to start
>browse /cric/ for a bit
>miss first wicket
god damn it

Stokes maxed out his BASED strongmind tree

Not his fault that Australia were a bunch of mental midgets that crumbled under the pressure (less than what he had)

watgod

Where did all the Aussie posters go to lads

Seem to have abandoned cric today

Tons of umpiring errors have been made in this series alone for both sides. It just so happened that this one actually decided a game and Gayne was retarded enough to waste a review on a complete non-chance beforehand that Pat Cummins himself said not to. Didn't even fucking listen to him, the dumb cunt.

ooof

this post has NOT aged well at all

One Aussie poster is still low m8. Usually they are the majority

Thinking of applying for a cricketing job in a minnow team

why dont they just give smith the captaincy and boot paine out

literally dead weight
cant captain cant bat can barely keep

BASED WATGOD

They all decided the game potentially. You think if the howlers Root/Deny got went through we would have made the total? Difference is we didnt piss away a review trying to fish out of desperation. This is recency bias.

For anyone else not shitposting and wondering why they literally can't give Smith the captaincy yet. You can guarantee he will at the first opportunity though

just got home from work, why the fuck are we still batting?

150 isnt enough to pressure for a win

its fucked anyway sri lanka can just bat out a draw anyway

yeah someone should probably tell Kane it's day 5

reckon you guys will declare once watling goes down

Based sebbo

They're not going to risk anything anyway with a series lead. You might as well at least try to back your bowlers for a win.

is Tim Southee the Ben Stokes of New Zealand?

tim saudi

ben stokes is the ben stokes of new zealand

WALLOP

he's doing a pretty good impression of him right now

declared

>BBL
>Play shit like The Baby Elephant Walk and The Addams Family theme to try to get the crowd excited
Why is it fucking cringe incarnate?

what is with everyone hating on Paine? He's one of the greatest Aus captains ever. Fuck you ungrateful oceanic mongs

time for some kino boult bowling
