What's the point of leagues like the NBA, Formula 1 or NFL where there are a close number of teams with no relegations, no promotions and no qualifications for other leagues? It's like only 2 or 3 teams in the whole league play for something, why are "fans" of the other teams even care about these leagues?

American sports have a way better system with limitations, draft priority and what not. Teams are always in rotation because of that and it's useful for preventing pay to win

Merits to both, undecided on which is best. I like the fact that in European leagues you could in theory start a football club and in 15 years be in the top division (in theory)

Which club in football does pay to win? Real Madrid are the biggest club with the most CLs and they don't have a private owner who injects money

In the USA they encourage "tanking" by awarding the worst teams with the best young products. Let's say they don't want to add relegations and promotions for some reason that doesn't make sense, but what's the purpose of having drafts? With youth academies a small team can become good just by producing players

It's like you remove hard work of generations (youth academies) and add a randomised system (draft lottery)

pro/rel wouldn't work at all in F1

Real Madrid are funded by the Spanish government

Formula 1 isn't exactly like the others in this regard. New teams are allowed to join, and unsuccessful teams do leave. It's not exactly pro/rel either.

Tanking is a myth. Even if a team's staff wanted to, the players would never agree to it considering money is on the line.

Not even close to being true. The draft is the most pussyass thing in American sports, it incentivizes tanking because might as well do that and get the best draft pick next season. And parity in American sports is a fucking meme defended by retards and goyim who dont know any better. We still see dynasties and superteams form once or twice in a decade in football or basketball and the other teams who aren't quite that good maintain their level at being close to the top for a longer period of time (see Broncos, Xhehawks, Cavs and Spurs)

Damn I didn't know that Real Madrid became big because of their superior youth academy and the net income from selling players. Thanks Argentinebro.

>American sports have a way better system

they give little minute to the "good" player (tanking teams don't have many of these) and just play young guys, it isn't losing on purpose but you'll lose most games against stars if you do that

that's what the hawks and suns did a lot in the last 4-7 seasons, and before that the 76ers, and last seasons the pelicans

Yeah the NBA sucks lol
NFL tanking is different though, they don't just blatantly sit their best players, and generally unless a team is ran by literal retards (see: Browns, Raiders) it is unlikely that it bottoms out for more than a season. And often, it doesn't even work, because the draft is just like 10% of finding good players considering the drafted rookies are usually not NFL-caliber when drafted

There are superteams and dynasties and shit but it isn't permanent like the eternal 2-man race between Real and Barca, etc.

Isn't drafting in the NFL way more luck-based? as in you can't read the potential of college players adapting to the pro league as easy as in other sports

Why do foreigners claim to hate American sports and still OBSESS over them?

OP is quite literally the first time I see someone with my flag talk about he must be fat, though

who hates your sports? formula 1 is in the same bag

also, it's not about the sport but the league, basketball in europe and south america makes sense

maybe look into the australian football league
>draft system is interesting
>their prize money distribution is interesting
>salary caps
>players from very average teams can and have won the ballon dor equivalent in recent years
>talent pipeline not as big as US

do some research as it is a decent example of a no-relegation tournament
in the last 20 years 16 teams from 18 have played in the final and each team goes through eras of strength and weakness
it's not like any team can just buy a bunch of great players like Leipzig, Bayern, Dortmund, Madrid, Barcelona, ManU, ManC, Liverpool, Arsenal, Hotspur and then just never ever get relegated unless they fuck up royally

in the /afl/ it's the last game of the home and away season this weekend then the finals/playoffs/knockouts are after that
>the team on top finished 15th last year

Based retard

I wonder who is going to win the SPL this year it's going to be close

Why be a fan of divegrass if the same 5 teams win the league. Or the same 10 teams win the champions league. And the same 10 nations win the World Cup.

>It's like only 2 or 3 teams in the whole league play for something
They constantly go up and down in terms of being good and being bad. So the Patriots might have Brady retire next year and win 3 games and that's actually reasonable. There's several teams who just suck at getting players, but many will make it up and compete for something.
Funny enough what you're mentioning is how we see European soccer. Celtic or Bayern or Real or Porto or PSG or Juventus always win their league and this will go on for 50+ years. There are different leagues for each sport if you don't want to support a big one in the US. But Europe is connected by pro/reg so you have to take it in the ass if you want to support a soccer team

>parity in American sports is
due to competition format.

>in the last 20 years 16 teams from 18 have played in the final and each team goes through eras of strength and weakness
when the "sport" is bogan meatheads spazzing about aimlessly between meth binges and barbies you get random results

>NBA
complete farce. No defending it. draft system doesn't work because of how much impact a LeBron can have on a team because it's 5v5
>Formula 1
who cares
>NFL
football is so insanely popular here that no matter where the team is, people will pack the stadiums.
>2 or 3 teams in the whole league play for something
that is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. guys (esp new players) bust their asses because of how low-paying the rookie contracts are, and if you are a good player you will get your ass PAID. just look at michael thomas. and LMAO a soccer fan complaining about a few teams dominating, the irony

It's better than soccer that only 4~5 teams ever win the fucking league

4~5 is a bit generous desu

>Cavs

hey I was looking at the stats and you are right
in the last 20 years:
>Geelong have contested the final 4 times and won twice, at one point contesting 4/5 consecutive years
>Brisbane contested the final 4 times in a row and won their first 3
>Collingwood have contested 4 years and won once
>Essendon contested 2 years in a row and won once
>Hawthorn contested 5 times and won 4 times, at one point winning 3 consecutive years
>Sydney contested 5 times, won 2, and lost their second year in a row (2006) to West Coast who they beat the year before in 2005
>West Coast contested 3 times and won 2
>St Kilda lost 2 in a row

I will do an analysis of the home and away season later
>the top 8 teams in the afl play in the finals
>1v4 (A), 2v3 (B), 5v8 (C), 6v7 (D)
>Losers C & D eliminated
>Winners C plays Losers A (E)
>Winners D plays Losers B (F)
>Winners E plays Winners B (G)
>Winners F plays Winners A (H)
>Winners G, H play the final

think about the top 8 teams of the EPL, Bundesliga, La Liga and tell me how many unique teams have been in and how many times each of those teams were in, then their longest absence, their longest streak, and how many consecutive years they have been in or out currently
