Trek has signed a lot of old riders past their peak to milk their marketing potential, which is actually a pretty good strategy if your plan is to market bikes. Benoot is such a conflicting rider. He is really good at a bunch of stuff like cobbled classics, hilly stage hunter, can even ride a decent GC in a stage race but kind of in-between everything. Can't outsprint people either and doesn't have a blistering attack

He has talked about maybe focusing on becoming a stage racer but he worries that then he might be 30 and realize he hasn't got what it takes either, and in the meantime have surrendered his qualities as a classics rider.

I was just poking fun at CCCs results this year. I actually think it could be mutually beneficial signing. CCC doesn't have a super strong team so he probably gets to stage hunt instead of being a water boy that has to blow his load on the first hill for the team's GC guy or not even making the team in the first place. He's a promising talent and has three wins this season, one stage in the Giro and two in Tour of the Alps.

Also looking at PCS I'd rate his season better than the entire CCC team desu. Though you have to take into account the disaster that was the BMC to CCC change and how shit their team has been this year due to it.

I'm dissappointed with them so far too, but, correct me if wrong, weren't they starting the season late, some bull with the whole deal getting lately or whatever? Seem to remember hearing something like that and that the team was not set up properly before the season so it wasn't very clear how they'll go about it.

Yeah the team had problem with securing a sponsor after last season when BMC pulled out. For a while it looked like they might not find one and let riders seek contracts elsewhere iirc. And when they finally got the sponsorship secured all the riders worth having already had contracts with other teams. I don't think anyone expected results from them this year. At least they have an excuse for not producing results, Dimension Data and Katusha have been even worse this season.

Don't worry too much about their lack of results and the bants they get from it. They should do much better next season now that they actually have a team.

Not really, no. Any route will always favour a certain type of rider. That's fine.

Well they can make it more fair by not including a bug fucking mountain. It's the Olympics, a one off race every 4 years. Everyone should have a chance. Many of the best riders in the world have literally zero chance of winning this race. You can change the world champs course because it is every year. Olympics should be as rider neutral as possible.
