I get it's a pretty decent indicator of a team's success - that a team with a +100 run differential is likely going to be better than one with a -100 run differential - but beating up on some shitty team by a score of 20-2 and scoring five runs in the ninth off a position player pitching and throwing nothing but meatballs, what does it really mean? One win is one win.

expected win-loss is on average 3 games off at the end of a season. turns out runs scored vs runs allowed over 162 games is actually a pretty good indicator of how good your team is. and it's not like a position player is trotted out on to the mound every time a team is down by 4 runs, managers really not giving a fuck is a tiny slice of games. the real benefit of looking at this in a vacuum is that I don't have to smell the hot steaming pile of chaotic dogshit the NL is this year, just look at it

I think moving fences back in some parks should be strongly considered -- it won't be. Investigate banning the shift or marking off some fair territory as a boundary to make the shifts less dramatic. Increase foul territory, especially behind the plate and down the OF lines. Strictly enforced pitch clock with penalties for batters who waste time in the box. Raise the mound back to at least 12.5 inches. A radar/camera strike zone.

Radically streamline the challenge/replay system. Teams should not get infinite opportunities to take their time deciding what they want to challenge or not. It also makes little sense to have every challenge get beamed back into NYC through some stupid radio headset that doesn't seem to serve any purpose but give random minorities a make-work job holding the equipment. All the camera feeds should be available to a standard fifth umpire in an onsite room at the ballpark who should have the ability to overturn missed calls the instant a replay angle indicates otherwise, without dealing with the challenge system. Altering the color of the baseball to a more visible hue was already experimented with in MLB back in the 30s or 40s. It's not a new concept. I'm also not saying these changes to the ball should be implemented in whole or in part, just that studies and trials with them should be investigated to see how the results play out.
