It's relatively equal really. Yes, Akashi Shogyo have really only been prominent for the past year, but it's not like they've come from nowhere. And Riseisha, while a strong school, have traditionally played second fiddle to Osaka Toin and don't make it Summer Koshien that often (Like once every 4 or 5 years).

Riseisha have never made it past the third round in Summer Koshien prior to this year, although they did reach Spring Koshien finals in 2014 and 2017. Their Summer Koshien appearances prior were 1997, 2010 and 2016, shows the difficulty of getting past Osaka Toin.

I feel like it was a close fight. Guess I can try to sneak watching the semis in the office later.
