Okayama Gakugeikan (Okayama) Batting Lineup 9-Yoshida-(RF) 7-Kinjoh -(LF) 6-Chinen (SS) 4-Osafune (2B) 3-Niwa(P) 5-Iwahata (3B) 15-Takeshita (1B) 8-Naka (CF) 2-Mizokami (C) Okayama Gakugeikan are from the western prefecture of Okayama. They have little historical koshien tradition, as their last visit (in 2015) was their first summer koshien visit.
Asher Ramirez
Missed the last couple days but now I'm back for more
Sakushin Gakuin (Tochigi) 8-Fukuda (CF) 4-Matsuo (2B) 3-Nakashima (1B) 6-Ishii (SS) 12-Yokoyama (RF) 5-Okochi (3B) 7-Yaehata (LF) 2-Tateishi (C) 1-Hayashi (P) Sakushin Gakuin are a private school powerhouse from the small Kanto prefecture of Tochigi and this is their ninth straight qualification. They have had winning experience in Koshien, winning 2016 Summer Koshien and reaching the semis in 2011.
Luke Cooper
1B Nakashima drives in a run for Sakushin Gakuen to take the lead.
i found the name of a song they were just playing that is new to me but damned if i'll be able to find the original because the song title is just "monster"
Probably yes. Cause there's multiple japan series games and it's more a national event. There's plenty of people (particularly old people) who have far more interest in high school baseball than npb.
Ryan Diaz
Google Trends shows the looking of people for Koshien is higher than NPB during most of year so probablly
Andrew Richardson
ooh they were playing another song of pawafuro too
With Sakushin Gakuen now having played two games, we have a better idea of who their stars are. 8-Fukuda (CF) (5 for 10, 3 steals) 6-Ishii (SS) (4 for 7) 12-Yokoyama (RF) (7 for 10, 1 steal) (5 for 5 in this game alone 1-Hayashi (P) (17 innings, 10 hits, 9 ks, 3 earned runs)
Kayden Brooks
glad to see the players still smiling even losing like that way
>12-Yokoyama (RF) (7 for 10, 1 steal) (5 for 5 in this game alone this one is going to get drafted easy
Isaiah Martinez

Tokaidai Sagami (Kanagawa) Batting Lineup 8-Unuma (CF) (36 for 82 this year, 5 HRs, 23 RBIs, 4 steals) 9-Honma (RF) 2-Inoue (C) 3-Yamamura (1B) (32 for 82 this year with 8 HRs) (Possible late round draft choice) 5-Kinjoh (3B) 6-Endo (SS) (Pitched in first game with 2 hits and 8Ks in 7 innings) (Tops out at 90mph) (27 for 73 this year with 6 HRs and 29 RBIs) (One of the possible two-way talents in this year's draft) 7-Nishikawa (LF) (31 for 82 in HS Career, 6 HRs, 31 RBIs) (Possible late round draft choice) 14-Matsumoto (2B) 13-Ishida (P) (First year pitcher, one to watch for 2021 draft) (Tops out at 88mph) (5 hits, 9Ks in 8 innings this year for 1.13 ERA) Tokaidai Sagami are a private school and traditional powerhouse from the arguably the most competitive prefecture in Japan. (Kanagawa, which is centered around Yokohama). They were winners of 2015 Summer Koshien where they were led by ace Shinnosuke Ogasawara (Current Dragons starter).
Jacob Roberts
Safe to say that Tokaidai Sagami is stacked. At least 4 players with a chance of being drafted this year.
Luke Gutierrez
you can know what are the guys that got the plate?
Luke Bailey
No idea.
Joshua Butler
my bad, i forgot that its already 16 in japan so it wont happen this year

Chukyodai Gakuin Chukyo (Gifu) Batting Lineup 8-Takabatake (CF) 4-Nobuhara (2B) 3-Gen (1B) (2nd year) (3 for 3 last game) (11 for 28 in HS career with 2 HRs) 2-Fujita (C) (One of the better HS Catchers this year) 5-Oda (3B) 1-Fugo (P) (Tops out at 87mph) (7Ks, 4 hits in 5 2/3 innings last game) (2 for 4 hitting last game) 6-Inoue (SS) 9-Masuda (RF) 7-Nimura (LF)
Jaxson Walker
Chukyodai Gakuin Chukyo are a private school from Gifu (Chubu region). Chukyo have some Koshien tradition, but their only recent attendance in Koshien in the past decade has been a second round exit in 2016. They are not to be confused with Chukyodai Chukyo who are one of the most successful Koshien schools in Japan (From Aichi, but they have recently been mediocre).

they learned that from american school shootings. if you give them media attention it will just happen more.
Brayden Adams

aparently broadcast is saying that the band of of NTT Branches is playing for one of the teams
i was reading and its common some people or high schools help schools that arent from Osaka Region due the high costs of transporation of instruments, some schools spend around 10 mi yens just to go once to Koshien
Colton Brooks
>mfw you will never have an golden car diecast with silver wheels
Shido (Tokai's nominal ace) is up now. (8Ks, 2 hits in 7 innings in last game against Ohmi) But not much scouting on him.
Tyler Cox
Fujita ties it up for Chukyo. 3 for 4 today. Cementing his place as one of the premier catchers at Koshien.
Jayden Johnson
And more RBIS! Oda with another line drive. 4-3 now. And Shido is taken out of the game after just 1 out. Noguchi is now the pitcher for Tokaidai Sagami.
Wyatt Jenkins
Wow the choke is real
Nathan Perez
More errors. This is a complete choke by Tokaidai Sagami. Pick-off error results in another run. 5-3
Bentley Hughes
ahhh tokai lol
Oliver Smith
Wow. Just wow. 6-3 now. Pitching ace Fugo drives in another run.
Leo Nguyen
Wow. Another fielding stuff-up (Not really an error though) Given the amount of talent on this Tokaidai Sagami team, this does count as an upset.
I can't remember a whole team (it's been the whole team, not just one or two players) collapse so badly in just one half-inning. Pitchers throwing wild. Catcher falls over. Simple fielding errors.
Memeworthy stats from Shido in that inning. 1 out. 2 hits. 2 earned runs.
Logan Sanders
If they can't redeem themselves even a little here that's gg
Henry Murphy
it they tie with same style of choking this game will be the most meme of this tornamentl
Asher Martin
wow that tokai cheerleader at the bottom of the steps(i think, the one that had the closeup just now) was a mega cutie
Jacob Diaz
After giving the pitching reins to Gen to give Fugo a rest, Chukyo give the ball straight back to Fugo to get them out of this jam.
Aaron Sanders
For a pitcher with relatively ordinary speed (87mph) Fugo is a damn good pitcher.
Brayden Myers
tokai drummer girl cute too
Joseph Hughes
Good eye, not sure if I want them to get out of this jam or if I would like to see a reverse collapse.
Ryan Stewart
2 outs. Bottom of the 7th. Bases loaded. 8-4 down. Kinjoh is up for Tokaidai Sagami. They would have to get something here at least to stay in the game i think.
Adam Robinson
Chukyo bringing in their closer now. Akatsuka (18-P) tops out at 92mph)
Lucas Gray
is the mound low or is it just the lack of contrast
Adrian Morgan
Left a lot of men stranded, last bottom of the inning is gonna be tough now. And that's assuming no more gets piled on of course.
Juan Clark
Pretty sure it's over at this point
Ian Adams

Akashi Shogyo (Hyogo) Batting Lineup 8-Kita (CF) 2-Mizukami (C) 5-Shigemiya (3B) 9-Ando (RF) 3-Miyazaki (1B) 18-Fukui (LF) 4-Shimizu (2B) 6-Kouno (SS) 10-Sugito (P) Akashi Shogyo are a public school from the prefecture of Hyogo in Kansai region. They have only recently come into prominence with some good draftable talent. They competed in summer koshien last year and made the semis of this year's spring koshien. Realistically, they are sort of the closest thing to Kanaashi Nogyo (Yoshida's team) this year, given that they are a public school, with little historical Koshien success. Plus they're the local team from Hyogo.
Brody Ortiz
clay mixed in with dirt will do that to a field

it rained that day, and the OF had some problems in past

Ube Kojo (Yamaguchi) Batting Lineup 8-Okada(P) (Normally outfielder but pitching today) 6-Furukawa(SS) 5-Sakai(3B) 3-Tanaka(1B) 7-Harada(LF) 1-Ikemura(RF) (Normally the ace, but playing in right field) 4-Fujii(2B) 2-Yamamoto(C) 9-Kawamura(CF) Ube Kojo are a private school from the western prefecture of Yamaguchi which has recently come into koshien prominence, twice reaching spring koshien in 2015 and 2017 (where they lost their only game) and summer koshien in 2012 (where they reached the quarters)

im suprised that Hyogo (the province where koshien is in) is still on the tournament
David Brooks
at least it ended with a bunt.
but i cant forgive that empty manila folder of a dinger being the deciding factor.
Dominic Parker
To give you an idea of what Akashi Shogyo (a public school I remind you) have achieved in this past year, much of this team is the same team which attended Koshien last year (where they narrowly lost their only game) and reached semi-finals this year. Previous to that, they had never made Koshien at all. Plus they're located in Hyogo prefecture (where Koshien stadium is) which is one of the top six or seven competitive prefectures in the nation. The usual reps for Hyogo (Hotoku Gakuen) frequently recruit from all across the nation, whereas Akashi Shogyo are all locals.
David Johnson
is quarter finals user, but still impressive also, Koshie nused to heild Hyogo tournaments, but due complain of another provinces and costs of keep Tigers out even more than normal, they decided send the tournament to Hotto Motto (the secondary house of Orix Buffaloes)
Adam Bennett
I meant semis in spring.

Kaisei (Nagasaki) Batting Lineup 8-Matsuo (CF) 3-Ogushi (1B) 4-Matsuo (2B) 9-Takatani (RF) 5-Sakamoto (3B) 2-Ota (C) 7-Murakami (LF) 6-Urata (SS) 1- Shibata(P) Kaisei are a private school who are a Koshien regular from the prefecture of Nagasaki. Sakamoto with the 2-run homer to make it 3-0 for Kaisei. Turns out the school was set up by French missionaries.

Their most famous alumni is Tetsuto Yamada.
Owen Lewis
i wouldnt say that anything can happen in tournaament

Takaoka Shogyo hit a sac fly to peg it back to 3-1 after a big inning from Riseisha.
Parker Perry
Hit by pitcher drives another runner home for Riseisha. 4-1.
Jackson Scott
not lookin too good for them. not advancing is a koshien tradition for them

Tetsuto Yamada approves of this Riseisha performance!
Takaoka Shogyo at least making the scoreline a bit more respectable.

Next up is Chiben Wakayama (Wakayama) v Seiryo (Ishikawa). This is probably the best game of the third round.
Justin Powell
Seiryo (Ishikawa) Batting Lineup 8-Shouji (CF) 7-Arimatsu (LF) 5-Chida(3B) (4 for 9 in tournament) 6-Uchiyama(SS) 1-Okugawa (P) (can top 98mph and is projected to be the second best high school pitcher in the draft behind Rouki Sasaki of Ofunato (who didn't qualify).(5 hits, 12 Ks in 11 innings) 3-Fukumoto (1B) 9-Okada (RF) 13-Otaka(2B) 2-Yamase (One of the top hitting catchers in HS Baseball, possible late round candidate for draft) (4 for 8 in tournament) Seiryo are a traditional power from the rural prefecture of Ishikawa, who are famously, Hideki Matsui's former school.
Kevin Ortiz
Chiben Wakayama (Wakayama) Batting Lineup 4-Kurokawa (2B) 8-Hosokawa (CF) (5 for 10, 1 HR, 3 RBIs, 1 Stolen base) 6-Nishikawa (SS) 10-Tokumaru (RF) 7-Negoro (LF) 2-Azuma (C) (One of the better catchers in this tournament) ((5 for 8, 1 HR, 3RBIs)) 3-Sato (1B) 11-Kobayashi (P) (Their normal ace Ikeda (who tops out at 93mph) is not starting today) 5-Ayahara (3B) Chiben Wakayama are a private school from the Kansai prefecture of Wakayama and are a mainstay of Koshien, having attended Summer Koshien 23 times and Spring Koshien 12 times. Their heyday was in the 90s when they won Spring Koshien in 1994 and two Summer Koshien within four years (1997,2000). You may remember them from their epic choke in the first round to surprise quarter-finalists Ohmi as well as their earlier choke this year at Spring Koshien. Surprisingly for such a storied team, they have very little successful NPB alumni. The only of note is Haruki Nishikawa (Outfielder for the Fighters).
James Perry
The two co-commentators for this match will be the legendary coaches for both teams. Yamashita-kantoku (Seiryo) (on the left) was the high school coach for Hideki Matsui. Takashima-kantoku (Chiben Wakayama) (on the right) was the man who led Chiben to several titles in the 90s and 00s.
Glad to see him varying eye-level, Chiben seems perfectly adept at fouling away his low junk, but they're helpless against 90+ up
Aaron Morgan
17k from Okugawa today
Charles Cooper
Kid's got filth, and the ump is consistently giving 6 inches outside, no wonder we're seeing a pitcher's duel.
Hunter Williams
Haha, time for extra innings
Luke Rodriguez
Reminds me a little of Verlander in the fact that he can throw very high velocity for a long time.
Henry Peterson
i hope we get onto Tie Break today at least
Jose Parker
Can I get a quick rundown on extra inning rules? First time seeing a Koshien extra innings game.
Luis Hall
Okugawa needs 4 more Ks to tie Yuki Matsui's Koshien strikeout record in one game (Although Matsui did this in 9 innings). Starts at 13th inning. Runners on 1st and 2nd. No outs. Score as many runs as you can.
Thomas Phillips
The international tiebreaker rule will be applied at the 13th inning
Okugawa bringing the heat. 96mph on his 126th pitch. Somewhere in America a major league scout is crying.
Jason Carter
Another 96mph pitch. His ability to keep his velocity this late is amazing.
Nathaniel James
They're mentioning Saibi so i'm assuming they're referencing Tomohiro Anraku, who famously flamed out in Spring Koshien a few years back after pitching like 180 pitches in the final and his velocity just dropped.
Angel Gonzalez
Not really.
William Martin
What's the reason then?
Julian Morales
Is it their choke from last year against Saibi?
Thomas Roberts

Rewatching it reminds me how extreme of a pitchout it was, and he still bunted lmao

The clear underdog here is Akashi Shogyo followed by Chukyodai Gakuin Chukyo. All the other teams are Koshien regulars. Riseisha look like good picks for the title, Seiryo too if they can reach the semis without tiring out Okugawa.

Akashi Shogyo (Hyogo) Batting Lineup 8-Kita (CF) 2-Mizukami (C) 5-Shigemiya (3B) (4 for 7, 1 HR) 9-Ando (RF) 3-Miyazaki (1B) 18-Fukui (LF) 6-Kouno (SS) 4-Shimizu (2B) 10-Sugito (P) Akashi Shogyo are a public school from the prefecture of Hyogo in Kansai region.
James Butler
Hachinohe Kosei Gakuin (Aomori) Batting Lineup 6-Takeoka (SS)(6 for 15, 1 HR, 2 stolen bases) 8-Shimabukuro (CF) 3-Kondo (1B) (7 for 12, 2HR, 7RBIs) 9-Hara(RF) 7-Ooe(LF) 5-Shimoyama(P) 4-Itoh (2B) 2-Tayama(C)(5 for 9, 1HR) 18-Sawanami (3B) Hachinohe Kosei Gakuin are a private school from the northern prefecture of Aomori. They're a koshien powerhouse known for recruiting mostly from the other side of the country around Osaka. As such, most of their players are not from Aomori. Their most famous alumni is Hayato Sakamoto (iconic shortstop of the Yomiuri Giants)
Jack Young
3 run HOMERUN
Jason Gutierrez
I'm going out soon for a couple of hours so i'll probably miss the second game. Here's the rosters and a summary.
Jason Anderson
Thanks for your efforts
Parker Ross
Chukyodai Gakuin Chukyo are a private school from Gifu (Chubu region). Chukyo have some Koshien tradition, but their only recent attendance in Koshien in the past decade has been a second round exit in 2016. They are not to be confused with Chukyodai Chukyo who are one of the most successful Koshien schools in Japan (From Aichi, but they have recently been mediocre). Chukyodai Gakuin Chukyo (Gifu) Players to Watch: Fugo (1-Chukyodai Gakuin Chukyo-Pitcher) (12 Ks, 10 hits in 10 innings) (3 for 6 hitting) Fujita (2-Chukyodai Gakuin Chukyo-Catcher) (4 for 9) Oda (5-Chukyodai Gakuin Chukyo-Infielder) (4 for 7)
Sakushin Gakuin are a private school powerhouse from the small Kanto prefecture of Tochigi and this is their ninth straight qualification. They have had winning experience in Koshien, winning 2016 Summer Koshien and reaching the semis in 2011.
Sakushin Gakuen (Tochigi) Players to Watch: Hayashi (1-Sakushin Gakuen-Pitcher) (10 Hits, 9 Ks, in 17 innings) Yokoyama (12-Sakushin Gakuen-Outfielder) (7 for 10) Fukuda (8-Sakushin Gakuen-Outfielder) (5 for 10) Tateishi (2-Sakushin Gakuen-Catcher) (4 for 7)

Levi Phillips

Joshua Long
stay mad. mad aussie bro
You are Ikuei bro are the bests
Liam Parker
I love the ABC announcer's throaty calls of the home runs. He really seems excited unlike the boring NHK announcers.
Nathan Perez
these lads can b8. giving up a 3 run dinger to start the game and not taking the lead until very late. well done
Jack Carter
NHK have some good ones but generally the one that calls Koshien is always
"meh whartever"
this why even NHK World Premium i still watch the semis and finals on Asahi website
Adam Allen
So far both the "underdogs" won, turning out to be a good day
Matthew White
i think we got a good shot at another night game tonight, depending how this next one turns out
Kayden Reed
what is the meaning of this sand ritual?
Daniel Myers
Read some article posted before its a tradition for the loser team to bring some koshien dirt home.
Jaxson Lewis
The field, is considered an sacred battlefield, also is super honrours play in the tournament, beacuse only the winners of each province of japan (and 2 from certain areas but only in certain years) can join the tournament
so the loser team has the rigth of get an bit of the sand and take it home (generally they put on small glass bottles with Koshien write on it) as remembrance that one day they were on Koshien
there is more info about the history and why the tournament si so big on japan on OP
Seiryo (Ishikawa) Batting Lineup 8-Shouji (CF) 18-Imai (LF) 5-Chida(3B) (4 for 9 in tournament) 6-Uchiyama(SS) 13-Otaka (2B) 3-Fukumoto (1B) 9-Okada (RF) 11-Ogihara (P) (Okugawa not starting today) 2-Yamase (One of the top hitting catchers in HS Baseball, possible late round candidate for draft) (4 for 8 in tournament) Seiryo are a traditional power from the rural prefecture of Ishikawa, who are famously, Hideki Matsui's former school.
As expected, Okugawa is not starting today considering his 150+ pitch effort yesterday. Expect him to feature in the later innings to close the game though.
Ian Taylor
Seiryo (Ishikawa) Players to Watch Okugawa (1-Seiryo-Pitcher) (Tops out at 96 mph) (35 Ks and 8 hits in 25 innings) Okada (9-Seiryo-Outfielder) (5 for 8) Fukumoto (3-Seiryo-Infielder) (6 for 11) (Walk-off home run in third round)
Logan Wilson
>Seiryo You may be right but they may go opener in a few minutes' time which opens a whole new can of worms for them, including the early BTFO one imo.
Elijah Gomez
Sendai Ikuei (Miyagi) Batting Lineup 4-Nakazato (2B) (8 for 14) 3-Miyamoto (LF) (6 for 14) 6-Irie (SS) 9-Onou (RF) 5-Chiba (1B) (6 for 13) 1-Osakae (3B) (8 for 12) 18-Ito (P) 2-Kimura (C) 8-Mizuoka (CF) (5 for 11) Sendai Ikuei are a koshien powerhouse from Miyagi prefecture in northern Japan. Their school just happens to be walking distance from the stadium of the Rakuten Eagles and as such, they have some history of sending players to the Eagles. They reached the 2015 Koshien final but have never won Koshien. The star player for that 2015 team is current Marines infielder Taiga Hirasawa.
Alexander Nelson
new thread beacuse i am sure we are going to get night game today as well and today is european soccer have games that maybe can kill the thread
in case you guys didn't know yet, quarterfinals and semifinals are shuffled via lottery in Summer Koshien unlike in Spring Koshien, which sometimes confuses you.
