I've been following the NFL for many years, and I came to it on my own from vidya and tv, I've never seen an American trying to invite people to the sport or anything like that although once they know you're watching it too they're friendly enough.
I suppose that lack of evangelism is a big reason why the sport hasn't gotten far internationally.
