In fact, there's nothing to gain for US NBA players to play this tournament: they consider it totally irrelevant, the money they'd get palying it is pocket money compared to their NBA salaries, they risk an injury, if they win nobody will give them credit for that, and if they loose they'll get shat on.

It will never happen. The NBA minimum wage for a rookie is a top wage in Europe. And even if the wages are increasing in Europe (you can find some players who are at 2 to 3 millions a year), there still way lower than your random NBA wage (that are increasing even more anyway).
Also, basketball makes absolutely no profit here, it's only suggar daddies feeding their team, and almost nobody is ready to throw away 80 to 100 millions € at a loss to match the NBA wages (and those who can are doing it in divegrass).

Recuring injury for him, quite bad news for his career. Also shed a light as for why no EL team signed him and why he had to go to Bologna (who are probably sweating heavil now).
I had to say though, he somehow had it coming, you can't really take 6 months of pause and go back just like that at very high and physically demanding level / intensity, it's a perfect recipe for injury.
