Except UK doesn't play a single one of those games as a united team. Why are people so retarded? There is no UK Football Team. There is no UK Cricket Team. There is no UK Rugby Union/League Team. There are meme versions, but no proper ones. We're all split up.

For stuff like football/cricket/rugby we were the first to play them so there wasn't anyone to play against as Britain and ended up with home internationals and the teams have just stuck

Rugby, Football, Cricket were invented in a period where UK was basically the only people to play them properly, so did inter-country tournaments. They then got popular and when FIFA formed, they asked UK to join as UK since there had been UK Olympic Football Team (Modern Olympics also being a British invention) and we went 'We won't unless we can do it as individual nations'. So that's what happened. At the moment, UK teams (or more specifically, GB teams, as Northern Irish can choose to play for Ireland or UK) are essentially for niche/minor sports. So, for example, Ice Hockey, despite being a British invention, isn't popular enough to split up, so to compete it's kept as a single thing (and we did win an Olympic Gold in it once), American Football is also a UK team.

As to why the Women's Football Team have agreed to do a GB team for the Olympics but the Men's Team hasn't? Essentially Scotland and Co going 'Waaaah if this happens it will mean the eventual destruction of our national teams and we'll be forced to do GB teams' or some utter nonsense. I still maintain the reason other nations are better at football than us is because they play Olympic Football, since it gives U23's experience. I would be fine without it if we replaced it with something else during the tournament. We could bring back The British Championship Cup, which is all the nations. But no.
