After an eventful stage 19 (Adieu Pinot, we will miss you) we are up for the final stage that really matters... until they decided it actually doesn’t. Stage 20 was shortened due to bad weather or whatever, being only 59 km now with a climb to Val Thorens as the only mountain left in this tour. Can Alaphilippe regain yellow with an ultimate surge? Probably not. This will be an Ineos TTT with Bernal winning it all (including the polka dot jersey) at the end. The weather will be bad though, so just maybe…Here’s hoping for early echelons and/or lots of crashing.
I doubt it, t-mobile rode pinarello and I think they were aluminum at that point
Alexander Reyes
they did what?
Isaac Rogers
Bernal could've had a bad day, he's young - no one knows if he has the endurance for a gt, riders often go down on the last day - now we'll never know
David Taylor
Yes without Pinot, nobody will attack. I also believe that if today stage wasn't canceled. Allaphilipe could have kept his yellow jersey. With the descent he would have gone back to Thomas group and the second mountain wasn't as hard as the first.
Logan Foster
this, the second mountain was just above a puncheur type finish, he had already caught Poels etc. before it got neutralized
Justin Wright
I think Bernal was being hold back by Ineos in this 3rd week, waiting until this very stage to see whether Geraint would have had the legs to win it again.
Dylan Parker
That doesn't happen suddenly though, they show weakness before crumbling, like Yates last year losing 40 seconds the previous stage or Pinot looking weak yesterday.
Hudson Lopez
this tour has a big asterisk next to it not only because of doping but also because of MUH HAIL
Jaxson Martinez
Outside the ITT, at no point in the race has Thomas looked anything less than a full tier below Bernal.
Landon Carter
He wasn't getting much closer on the part of the descent they had. He made up maybe 10 seconds and the other group still had de Plus to run himself into the ground on the flat.
Allaphillipe loses more if the stage isn't cancelled.
Brody Rodriguez
Yes, but Ineos is a Brit team, and they would have liked to see a Brit winning it.
Liam Hill
user I... ;_;
Nicholas Robinson
Fair. Does that take getting used to with no float at all?
Honestly I didn't even know Time still existed. Do any pros still use them these days?
Jose Bailey
Bernal wasn't very strong in the Pyrenees, who knows
Levi Parker
it's not only about Alaphilippe but also about bookie and Thomas they could have caught up to Bernal and make things look differently
Chase Johnson
There was at least 15 k more descent though, and on wet roads he could've done even more. Again, he even caught the group with Poels etc.
Justin Rivera
Allah didn't gain any time on Bernal on the descent yesterday so no that wouldn't happen. Plus the second mountain was still at 2000 meter of altitude and after the Iseran Allah would have just lose even more time.
You missed the planche stage?
Eli Walker
Probably very few, if any. I like the free-floating.
Christopher Baker
I don't think he would have won by a minute if they rode the full stage, but I think he would win the stage at least. Jumbo and Bora had 2 guys to sacrifice while Bernal would have to pull in the valley. Worst part is that he can save his legs for tomorrow because of this. What would they do if the break had 4/5 minutes with a Uran or Quintana in it over the top? They could not do what they did with the time gaps. This is kinda refball imo
Landon Brooks
He was the strongest besides Pinot and even gained time on all the other GC guys, how is that not very strong?
Hudson Taylor
He was gaining time on the group with Thomas etc. brainlet, and the final climb wasn't very long or difficult
Carson Russell
These mongs only focusing on Bernal vs Alaphilippe as if everyone else weren't on the roads and racing is frustrating. >_
Leo Gomez
Honestly was the first clips I used. I first got them 8 years ago and just haven't had any reason to try anything else.
Ayden Ross
sadly nobody will do anything. Kruiswijk and Buchmann will just lead the peloton at first to put a high tempo to be sure Alaphilippe is dropped to take a podium spot. That's about it. They never attacked before so they won't attack now to be 1st. Alaphillipe is too exhausted and the rest of the team too, also they might gave up on this stage to relax Viviani for the sprint at Paris. But I hope they don't do that, Viviani is shit this TdF, he lost at least two sprints even though he was in ideal conditions thanks to his teammates. I hope Lefevre punishes him and forces him to ride on the flat stage tomorrow to help Alaphilippe.
Mason Martin
I might remember wrong, but he finished with the group on all the pyrenees stages?
Noah Powell
Okay the ITT and a meme mountain that means literally nothing.
Samuel Martin
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Xavier Garcia
Him and Buchmann finished together on both stages.
Yes a bunch of slows that were still losing 1+ minutes on Bernal on the climbs. Also that without considering Allah was still 1 minute from them when they stopped the race so your scenario isn't very realistic. And of course on the final climb Allah would have lost even more time, it was still above 2000m not the small climbs Allah is used to race in.
Cooper Miller
Allahphillipe took 30 seconds or something on the Thomas group yesterday on a much shorter descent
Dominic Green
idk, I think they're just dealing with the hand they've been dealt. Shit sucks, but I don't think it's really their fault.
At least it leaves us with a thousand what-ifs to discuss in the coming decades.
Grayson Perry
>rating "podium" I'll never understand this mindset. Cracking spectacularly while trying is even superior.
they should put rest days in the middle of the alpine stages and switch days if the weather forecast is bad for a day in particular; spectators that go early would be pissed to have the programme changed, maybe a few problems with TV coverage/teams hotels, but it'd be totally doable
Jayden Diaz
Agree with that. The move was a bit of a gamble, but lucky for him they paid off at halftime for once. But if anything positive comes of this it's that the aggressive rider is rewarded.
Nicholas Sanders
In this Giro, when Passo di Gavia got unavaliable to climb by excess of snow, they have put a replacement climb to keep the stage distance.
20, and you are right on the Thomas group, Bernal kept all his advantage, he goes down just as fast as Allah.
Bunchman and Bernal finished above the others in the first Pyrenees stage, in the second they all finished together, so he was one of the few gaining time so you know, strong.
William Myers
Also
> using handlebars
Nathaniel Adams
Giro totally and purely cancelled a stage in 2013 because of the snow
Daniel Hill
Win the Vuelta for us /Pinot/
Nicholas Phillips
It's people with this mindset that make the Tour boring.
Joshua Sanders
It was good to see his level though. Even skeletor himself would have trouble hanging with him uphill this year. And let's face it, he is almost certainly never coming back at old level. A Vuelta win would be awesome.
Carson Gonzalez
He's injured for at very least 2 months No vuelta
Ethan Wood
How much float does it have? SPD-SL yellows are 6 degrees apparently, which is a fair amount, although less than Look reds which are 9 degrees. Looking at Time's website it looks like their floating ones have 5 degrees of float, pic related.
Interesting. For me I think it would take some getting used to having my foot position that fixed. I was just watching a video of pros being asked what they use and half of them (especially sprinters) were saying they used reds for maximum power transfer during sprints, but the other half used cleats with at least some float because they kept saying that if it's too fixed it can cause knee issues, especially if it's misaligned. I think if it's properly aligned and you adapt to it then it's fine, but it sounds like getting the right alignment is tricky and takes tiny adjustments.
Last chance? He is 29 and steadily improving season by season. He showed he has the level to win this race.
Nathan Taylor
Why must you hurt me so
Easton Mitchell
Bestemt..!
James Robinson
Fuck it's real. Maybe they're using it to test how would such short stages compare. Out tour is boring af, basically same stages every year with dumb laps. Though it did let some good riders on bigger stage.
Sebastian Hernandez
I self adjusted it, haven't had any problems so far and the knees are fine for now, don't know when I'm 40 though. My dad's knees did explode when he was training for a triathlon so hopefully I don't end up in that situation ha.
Parker Powell
This shit was finally about to get interesting and now they go and ruin it like this. I don't even care about who wins, it just sucks that we didnt get to see this stage play out in full.
Gavin Richardson
Tour de France should be owned by Gazzetta dello Sport, like Giro d'Italia
>Does that take getting used to with no float at all?
People rode for years without float (slotted cleats, with clips and straps). Float is for riders who 1.) have legitimate knee issues or 2.) can't be bothered to perfectly dial in their fit.
Bentley Fisher
INEOS MERDA CARAPAZ CULO
Camden Nguyen
it's owned by L'Équipe, actually
William Cox
I have a premonition....if either ones of the teams play it right, neither Bernal nor Geraint will wear the Maillot Jaune after tomorrow's stage.
Long mountain TTT but with everyone starting at the same time...Ineos Merda win still not set in stone
Evan Rivera
Even sumo is 6 weeks away. I guess soccerball will have to do until handegg comes back.
Charles Gomez
Not quite. L'Équipe used to run the Tour. L'Équipe is owned by EPA. ASO is owned by EPA.
Sebastian Hill
> he doesn't watch pre-season
Jeremiah Martinez
I certainly do not. Only 24 hours in a day lad. Don't be wasting them.
Jason Gonzalez
60km stage >reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee chutes reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee and it's over
Gavin Ramirez
So who is the favorite to win the tour now ? Bernal ? I mean it is practically only one stage left, granted a very hard one but still. Also who could realistically still win it all if he has a perfect day tomorrow ? Is Buchman at 1:55 still possible ? I guess 2min arent that much when you look at stage 20, if you have a great day it might be actually possible I guess...
Today I took the padding net thing out of my helmet and cleaned it. Squeezed it like a spnge and the water came out black. Fucking disgusting. Reminder to clean your helmet chaps
Asher Reyes
Of course I am not a plastic fan of foreign teams. I just enjoy watching the big games.
Anthony Reed
I think Jumbo Pissma has the best chances with Kruis, if they treat it like a TTT and blend everything out, steady but very high pace.
Dylan Sanders
Bernal, because of iMEOS train plus good form showed by El Elfo
Grayson Scott
Any word on what kind of wind is expected tomorrow? Could make or break the stage.
Samuel Myers
Official race power rankings
1. TDF 2. Paris Roubaix 3. Giro 4. Flanders 5. World Champs 6. Olympics 7. Vuelta 8. Tour de Trump 9. LBL 10. Lombardia
Joseph Brooks
Nobody has best chances for anything. It is over. Steady pace for 60km? Dave Brailsford says thank you very much
think the tour is already decided ? I really dont want ineos to win, would much rather see literally anybody else win.
Noah Rogers
Kruiswijk and Buchmann were the only two who didn't put their cards on the table today. Thomas attacked, Bernal attacked, Alaphilippe was at his limit. So I can see these two surprise us tomorrow.
Ian Walker
you have the weird giant balloon advertisement
Jason Garcia
You're in the breakaway when this landslide blocks your path. What do? streamable.com/2doas
Don't forget you could win the stage.
Hudson Ortiz
I had MSR for Tour de Trump. I think that's where it belongs. The 3rd best monument. It's pretty boring but it's a important race historically and definitely important to the riders
Parker Cook
>Kruiswijk and Buchmann They both would have attacked on tignes, its pretty obvious considering how they rode.
really sad for krus, he seemed in good shape. Tomorrow is probably gonna be explosive tho, last chance for many people.
Levi Morgan
It's just so formulaic when compared to other races. I get it, but... Eh.
Mason Carter
It's obvious they were pacing steady for the last climb and they had help for the flatter parts down to the foot as well. It's a damn shame this happened, and Bernal got extremely lucky with how this entire race played out. Before the injury issue came up he was completely outclassed by Pinot on pure level.
>History: the Tour de France has only visited once before and in 1994 Colombian climber Nelson “Cacaíto” Rodríguez won ahead of Piotr Ugrumov as the pair held off a young Marco Pantani.
Since Colombians have such an advantage at altitude I think we need to level the playing field. Foe genetic disadvantage you can get a TUE. What about genetic advantage? They must ride on heavier bikes or something
Hudson Foster
just take the bike on my shoulders and walk over it christ, it's just mud
Oliver Evans
Wait they changed the stage for tomorrow as well and made it shorter ? Well then I guess it is already over and Bernal won it... really anticlimatic... maybe I am overreacting but on such a short stage I just dont see anyone taking really any significant time off of him considering he is a strong climber and todays stage was so short already...
Samuel Richardson
Angry Lance is best Lance. Today on his podcast he was shitting on Contador, Pinot and Bardet. Says he could still beat Bardet in a TT
Pussy organisers don't want anything to happen. There are no more real men left in this world.
Blake Morales
TdF and Roubaix are usually pretty anticlimactic though. If you're talking prestige the top 3 are the GT, no question.
David Rodriguez
Explain why only Armstrong had his victories retracted despite literally every rider during his years was doped up to their ears?
Elijah Bailey
Indeed. Let's make blacks run with 5lbs weights at their ankles at the 100m sprint too. Whites over 6' shouldn't be allowed to compete in swimming competitions too.
Jordan Jackson
>20, and you are right on the Thomas group, Bernal kept all his advantage, he goes down just as fast as Allah. Actually no, he took 8 seconds on Bernal and there was still 20 km of descent to go. That said he had no more juice in the legs for the last climb. But what a berserker.
Jason Lopez
Cucks get triggered by the charisma and swagger of Armstrong.
Landon James
roubaix this year was amazing, flanders was the underwhelming one this year
Depends on what rider you ask. Half the peloton would take Roubaix over Giro or Vuelta
Camden Smith
Years without declared winner. Different, for example, than 2010 when Schleck has heired title took from Contador because of doping.
Kevin Price
That's not much of a stretch, he probably still has a freezer of Ferarri blood though so he could probably beat half the peloton.
Brayden Long
Because Giro and Vuelta is hostile to >sprinters
Caleb Barnes
It was pretty good. 2016 was amazing, top 3 all time for me. I just get so disappointed every year because they never get rain. What has it been now, 17 years?
Daniel Davis
Were there snowfalls during Paris-Roubaix?
Ethan Wright
94 or something - the year where Andre Tchmill won
Tyler Adams
A bit hard on Viviani there. Yeah as a sprinter he's shit this TdF, but he helped to get Ala over the first climb yesterday and a while after that. Surprised me to see him that long up there actually.
William Martin
Because they aren't GC guys. Why would Nils Pollitt rate the vuelta overall? GTs are a cut above everything. For the big dogs.
Joshua Cox
>wearing a helmet How many times did you fall on your head ?
Robert Collins
I would never wear a helmet. I am not a professional, I only ever hit the tarmac 4 times, I don't respect my life and I will never look like a dork on the road.
Asher Ramirez
Nah, Cancellara & Boonen are bigger stars than most gc guys
Caleb Evans
I honestly just wear a helmet riding in the city because I dont trust car drivers. Already got fucked over once and hit my head on the pavement dont want to do that again.
If I ride longer rides out of the city I dont bother with a helmet that much but I find that wearing a helmet and big sunglasses makes me feel more secure like you would with a motorcycle helmet so I am more confident when going high speed on a descent. But maybe thats just me.
based unironically helmets killed cycling, the kino mountain top finishes where you could see everybody's face will never come back again
Lincoln Diaz
29
It will be
>a bunch of gullible losers listen to this lowlife scum so you should too >in fact you should listen to justin bieber too just because his videos have a billion views You're pathetic.
Dylan Young
Helmets don't obstruct the face, so I don't know what you're talking about.
>1 (one) accident in a fucking century >EVERYBODY PUT ON A HELMET RIGHT NOW Gay. Literally what happened today "oh noes there's some mud on the road, cancel the race please mommy".
Jack Murphy
Alaphillipe pls leave
Alexander Adams
It wasn't his crash that caused the UCI scare ironically.
Dylan Hernandez
>Using alps
Bentley Mitchell
>He is 29 and steadily improving season by season. True, but how many opportunities will he get to race against a weakend Sky/Ineos train?
Froome will be back next year so there'll be no point in even showing up.
Camden Turner
>not using alternative routes
Cooper Jones
idiot, most wear the shades too so they're just robots that all look the same. And would Pantani have been as iconic if you couldn't see his bald head? With the helmets you killed a large possibility for riders to stand out and develop character
Hunter Bell
That's what lance says, that cyclists should be able to discard their helmets on mountaintop finishes
Thomas Morgan
I agree...somewhat. It's far more spectacular to see riders go for all or nothing. But it's understandable they chose the middle way, upping the tempo in hopes others will break and end up with something.
Go live out your hair/scalp fetish somewhere else.
Aaron Cook
With such a short stage maybe riders will keep an insane pace and we’ll actually see some fireworks with ineos and jumbo visma
Ayden Reed
I'm a good looking guy and with a helmet on I look like a cuck, hair is at least 70% of a face's character
Jeremiah Parker
Nothing more beta than orbiting an asshole.
Charles Morris
For 2020: Bernal 23yo Skeleton 35yo G 34yo Facepeace 27yo
Cameron Robinson
Why? All the domestiques are gonna be fresh, Sky will just be able to do a train most of the way
Jose Thomas
Wow, you make it sound like his leg got amputated. He's injured, he'll heal and I'm pretty sure he'll be back.
Wyatt Phillips
A team with 3 overall winners riding in support of Froome will be pretty much unstoppable on the road. The only thing that will beat them is if the flu ravages the team bus or something.
Leo Reyes
Plus people would rush to pick up the helmet, it would be hilarious.
Camden Hughes
This:
Nicholas Powell
brb going to break into a chemical research facility.
Nicholas Jenkins
>HELMETS KILLED CYCLING >they don't obstruct the face >ACTUALLY IT'S GLASSES THAT KILLED CYCLING, WHICH HAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH HELMETS Picture related
I do, and I'm also a skier. I just laugh at the normies who risk their cervical to avoid an improbable skull injury for the sake of fashion.
Liam Clark
I'm going to fly to France for the Dauphine and personally launch Froome from his bike. I will rot in French prison until Trump gets me out with tweets.
Julian Gomez
He's a cyborg, he can't be defeated by a mere wall anymore.
Landon Reed
I’ve reported you to the FBI
Logan Howard
Cool, maybe they will drop me off in France in a nice black heli.
James Sanders
The French wouldn't imprison you for that, they'd give you a bloody medal.
Also about that Trump thing - I cringed hard when I saw that. The most transparent attempt to corral "the black vote" ever.
I don't understand your post, earlier you were saying you're against helmets, now you're criticising people following "fashion". Are you saying people wear helmets just for fashion? I don't get it.
Honest question, You think Alaphilippe would have been a bandana guy? I feel yes, but think he might even bring out some new kind of headwear the world have never seen the likes of. Just that much of a madman.
Gavin Cruz
dude is already rocking the pirate look with his beard, he would have gone full out bandana and eye patch if he could get away with it
Nicholas Howard
Probably a turban. Then the English would abandon so he could win.
Eli Lopez
The only case where a helmet is somehow useful.
Brody Thomas
Alaphillipe without helmet on the mountains wouldve been kino, looks like captain haddock
Oh I get it, it's because you have nothing to protect. All makes sense now. Or you already bumped your head a few too many times.
Cameron Diaz
>getting off their bikes to shelter in the trees Fucking pussies
Dylan Perez
Kek.
Tyler Gutierrez
Funny story because I always wear a helmet but never crashed on my head, the only time its been useful to me was cycling home during a storm and a tree branch fell on my head
Even better idea: bikes should have 2 axles with a wheel at each end for a total of 4, a seat and some pedals at the bottom of a footwell to control a petrol powered engine instead of having to manually pedal, a metal cover to keep the weather out, and a steering wheel instead of handlebars.
Grayson Gomez
Crazy idea:
Tomorrow's stage is a kino mountain TT, instead of this limp dick amputated stage
So barguil will ride as domestique for Quintana next year?
Kayden James
Yea Forums hates TT on weekends
William Brooks
What a great photo. >Froome: exists >Frenchies: seething
Logan Rivera
It is going to be like a TT just everyone starting at same time. Tomorrow will be a great stage, Mark my words
Jace Peterson
More like domestique for whatever Sky doped horse, according to twitter.
Xavier Ramirez
when does it even start
Landon Ward
Once again, why are you so dense user ?
Logan Johnson
the french are anglo's bogeyman
Owen Martin
Oldfag here who was glued to the screen when this happened >team mate in panic when Casartelli didn't move >Moto unsure whether to stay with him or follow the course >Decide to do the latter, so Sporza comentators (or whatever it was back then) follow suit, while still being more interested in Casartelli. >They fall silent >Emotional voice: "Casartelli has died on his way to hospital" I sat crying in front of the tv. No idea if a helmet would've saved him, but it sure is a sight I never want to see again.
Ryder Clark
No you're not. But do not try and deny the French reaction to Froome.
>hit with urine lol, not cool but welcome on the TdF, in the early days they were beaten on the roadside or given 75° alcohol as refreshment. It's part of the adventure.
Jackson Hernandez
>Michel Disteldorf, the French doctor who examined Casartelli's body on behalf of the coroner in Tarbes, where the rider was flown by helicopter after he crashed, told the Sunday Times that the point of impact was on the top of the skull, and that had Casartelli been wearing a hard helmet "some injuries could have been avoided". en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fabio_Casartelli
So possibly he could have lived. Although I will mention a helmet cannot work miracles - Wouter Weylandt died even though he was wearing a helmet. But Weylandt was going very fast, I don't know if Casartelli was going as quickly.
A helmet will definitely protect you more though, no question. I really should wear mine more. If I'm going for a long ride I will always wear it. I don't usually if I'm just going to the shop or the gym, though. But I probably should.
Blake Cooper
>pot calling the kettle black lel, he deserved the urine.
Christian Phillips
INEOS MERDA ASO CULO
Mason Murphy
>Pinot hasn't finished a TdF since 2015 Why is this man so incredibly punished? What did he do to deserve this?
Has any other modern rider had the same reaction? But regardless, all I said is that Froome makes some French people seethe. The French public's reaction to him is notorious. That's just an objective fact, sorry that you're getting butthurt about it.
??? That saying would only apply if I was calling him something which I am myself... I didn't call him anything.
Luke Taylor
commenting specifically on the image, Froome says the fans are ruining the race when it was his team that ruined the race.
Christopher Morales
Black(0 float) Look Keo cleats. I hate how the floating cleats always get my feet in the wrong position while never being in the position I want. As long as you dial them in right they won't cause problems.
People in this picture are cheering, taking pictures and wearing yellow caps, t'es vraiment con toi.
Aaron Gray
>only 1 guy possibly looking mad >rest all excitedly taking pictures (you), clearly fishing for reactions with this intentionally misconstrued bait
(I won't deny that generally Froome DOES make the French seethe but there was no reason to bring that up from this picture unless you wanted to stir shit up, in which case don't, this thread is supposed to be /COMFY/, friendo)
Jackson Price
Another reason to wear a helmet is cooling. Apparently the vents' design of top-end helmets are more effective at cooling the head than even a bare head in the wind.
Thomas Morgan
Certainly true, but necessarily at the expense of speed.
Nolan Nguyen
>wahhh it's ruining the race when riders i don't like win! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Zachary Lee
>checking thread
>Ineos dick slurpin Brit is still here and on defend mode
Friend, there was no reason to start being mean just from that picture because it doesn't actually contain tons of Frenchmen seething, just like I said! Just try to be nice! I don't get why you're trying so hard to fight with people :(
I am not seething, just disappointed in you making the thread less comfy, please understand!
Sebastian Brown
>the angry looking guy on the right! What ? You mean that man raising his fist and looking at the camera while yelling ? Must be the most hardcore fan in the assembly, what do you smoke bro ?
my dad, who was born and raised in Boyaca, Colombia is really sad to have seen JA lose yellow today. Based Tour lads, I'm glad fo have spent it with you all
Colombia has good riders since early 80s. See Luís Herrera (then as amateur) winning Alpe d'Huez in 1984, for example.
Carter Garcia
There hasn't been this many top Colombian cyclists at one time. Even a few years back you had Uran, a younger Quintana and a few specialists like Darwin Atapuma, but that was no more than three. Now there's at least six or seven including Gaviria
Jordan Sanders
What an anticlimax finish for this TdF .. With Pinot injurie, we will never know who really was the best between him and Bernal. And with this shitty stage, the Tour is already won for Ineos
Jackson Lee
lol Mühlbereger is austrian though
Ethan Howard
this was an abysmal stage, and a blue balls tour if the GC stays like this. I definitely agree with that it was a refball decision that gifted Bernal the jersey and potentially the whole tour. While he may have held, Alaphilippe was well on his way to making time back when they called the stage. I like the colombian rider and he was certainly gaining time on the jersey, but this is ridiculous. The decision to take the time from Col de l’Iseran is bizarre. The two logical options were to either null the whole stage, or take the times from the time of stoppage. Stopping on the Col de l’Iseran literally only benefits Bernal.
David Scott
Allaphilippe would have lost 5 minutes if the stage went full length. Bernal was the best today and that's that. There is literally nothing to be outraged about. If anyone was hurt by it, its Geraint thomas
Owen Kelly
Allah gained 3 seconds on the Thomas group in those 10 minutes they descened while they lost 5 on Bernal so no he was not coming back. The descent wasn't technical as the one in the previous day so not much differences would be made.
Also Allah was completely blowed up and would only lose more time in the last climb, he even smiled when he found out the stage was neutralized.
Zachary Brooks
might watch today i think it's going to be raining here (yorkshire) pretty much all day so my plans of heading out to the dales are likely scuppered
Levi Foster
>Pinot got injured and abandoned the tour (again) while bernal rides a clean race and brings the yellow home Hmm doesnt take much to figure out which was better...
Michael Martinez
With the normal stage it was won for Bernal anyway, the last climb is long but only 5.5%, that's why they went long range attack yesterday.
Wyatt Cooper
Maybe I'm just a bit salty because I want the a frenchmen to win the Tour, but still it cheapens the win. They were still 30 km to the finish on a two man break, I just think its unlikely they would have put more time on the chase group which. Allah is a bit gassed, but people thought he would be gassed by stage 13. I can't help but shake the feeling he would still be in yellow today had it not been called off.
Carter Edwards
*which was picking up speed by the time it was over
Lincoln Lee
>benefits Bernal. many here disagree - Yikes was cooperating with him since the no-written rule that he was given the stage victory as reward - Ala wasn't gaining much in the descent, barely 5 seconds in the section they did - if Ala would have gained 20 seconds it means he'd have spent a lot of energy before the last climb, where he could definitely blow up since the other guys were fighting for the podium positions - G was working as a stopper - Bernal was going to add another 6 seconds time bonus at the finish, or 10 if Ykes crumbled
Bunch of pussies nowadays with these shortened stages, I will now post the Eugene Christophe Milan Sanremo story
>Christophe is most famous for the broken forks of the Tour de France, but his suffering was far greater in the 1910 edition of Milan–San Remo which was run in dreadful weather with glacial temperatures. There were 71 riders at the start; only four finished in San Remo. Christophe recounted: “The weather had been good at the start of the week but it turned really bad and Alphonse Baugé [the manager] told us that we'd be going over the Turchino even though the road was bad and covered with snow. François Faber and Louis Trousselier cheered us up by saying 'What does it matter if we've got Lapize and Christophe the two cyclo-cross champions with us?' The roads were muddy and frozen and we had to bounce along in the ruts, riding on the verges between the posts that were spaced every 20 metres as far as Pavia. We rode the first 32km in 56 minutes, the 53km from Milan to Voghera in 1h 50. There were attacks after attack and it was more like a course des primes than a long-distance race...
>We go to the notorious col de Turchino. The clouds were low, the countryside was unattractive and we started to feel the cold more and more. We started to shiver and every turn of the pedals was heavier. The half-melted snow made the race very hard and we were struggling too with a glacial wind. I dropped my friend Ernest Paul to get up to Ganna, whom I could see on the hairpins. I got up and past him without too much trouble because he didn't seem to be standing the cold any better than I was. Not far from the summit I had to get off my bike because I started feeling bad. My fingers were rigid, my feet numb, my legs stiff and I was shaking continuously. I began walking and running to get my circulation back, looking at the countryside. It was bleak and the wind made a low moaning noise. I'd have felt scared if I hadn't been used to bad weather in cyclo-crosses.

Ryan Morgan
>Well, I got back on my bike and I got to the top of the col. There's a tunnel at the top and I asked a soigneur how far down I was on the leader. He told me six minutes. I found van Hauwaert at the exit of the tunnel with his bike in his hand and a cloak on his back. He told me he was packing it in. I was beyond feeling happy about it and I just got on with going down through the snow that lay on the road on that side of the mountain.
>The view was totally different now. The snow made the countryside beautiful. The sky was really clear. But now it was my turn to have trouble. It was hard to keep going. In places there were 20cm of snow and sometimes more. Each time I was obliged to get off and push. It was cyclo-cross - off, on, riding, walking. I could keep going but it was slowing me right down. Then I had to stop with stomach cramp. Doubled up, one hand on my bike and the other on my stomach, I collapsed on to a rock on the left side of the road. I was bitter with cold. All I could do was move my head a little from left to right and right to left.
>I saw a little house not far away but I couldn't get there. I didn't realise just what danger I was in. I just had one thought: to get to San Remo first and I attached no importance to the pain I felt… I thought too of my contract with the bike factory. I'd get double my wages if I won as well as primes and there'd be my 300 francs for first place. Happily in my misfortune a man chanced to pass by.
>' Signor, signor…'

>Christophe looked at the man and said casa [house]. He took him into the house, undressed him and wrapped him in a blanket. Christophe did physical exercises to get his blood restarted. Then van Hauwaert and Paul came in. "They were so frozen that they put their hands into the flames. Ernest Paul had lost a shoe without noticing," Christophe said.
>I was there for about 25 minutes. I saw four riders go by, or at least four piles of mud. I decided to press on. Ernest Paul said 'You're crazy.' And the innkeeper didn't want to let me go. I had to trick him by saying I could meet someone who would get me to San Remo by train. I set off and caught Cocchi and Pavesi and I got to the control just behind Ganna, who was setting off as I stopped. I set off again after Baugé told me I could win and I passed Ganna at the edge of the town. And I caught Albini a few kilometres later.
>At the control at Savona (90km) everybody was astonished to see me alone. I didn't stop long and took Trousellier's spare bike, because I knew he and Garrigou had abandoned before Ovada. I was sure of my victory and with only 100km to go I felt a new strength. The idea of crossing the line alone brought back all my energy. I got to San Remo well behind the scheduled time. It was 6pm when I stopped underneath the blowing banner that showed the end of my Calvary.”
>It took a month in hospital for Christophe to recover from frostbite to his hands and the damage the cold had done to his body. It was another two years before he got back to his original health. Only three riders finished and the result is still uncertain because some reports say van Hauwaert came fourth and others that he was disqualified for hanging on to a car.

During a Liege Bastogne Liege race in the 80s, Hinault won the race with more than 15mn on the 2nd. More than half of the peloton gave up the race. Hinault got frostbites and lost sensitivity permanently on several fingers because of it. That is the power of a mad man. Pretty based if you ask me.

Yesterday he was visibly upset when they told him the race was neutralized, he really wanted his 3rd victory. So yeah imo he will try going for it trying to enter the breakaway etc. If there is no a breakaway I don't know if he can keep up with the best guys though.
Lucas Rodriguez
Can't imagine a breakaway lasting today. I'm hoping for really bad weather and heavy wind, the first 30 km are a pretty straight road so there might be some real action there if conditions are suitable.

Le premier recevra 8 secondes de bonifs, le deuxième, 5 secondes et le troisième, 2 secondes, de quoi inciter les favoris à se dévoiler.

they just said on belgian radio that appearantly yesterday's scrapped mountain was the one that Kruiswijk marked out in his training, having ridden up it 8 times to concoct a tactical plan. and now he wasn't allowed to use all that preparation to his advantage.
Would it be unfair to add this to the recent lore of Dutch GC riders always getting fucked or fucking themselves in the final days?
Eli Walker
Been reading more about this
>On the last climb, Anglade attacked. Baldini and Gaul could follow, but Bahamontes could not, and at some moment was five minutes behind. This made Anglade the virtual race leader, which was against the wishes of the national team. Anquetil and Rivière then reached Bahamontes, and helped him to get back to Anglade.
>The only risk for Bahamontes left was the time trial in stage 21. At the start, Bahamontes was leading by 5'40". In the time trial, Anglade won 1'39" back on Bahamontes, but that was not enough. When the Tour ended in the Parc des Princes velodrome in Paris, the French crowd booed the French national team, because they did not allow Anglade the victory.
That's what I love about the Tour, there is so much history and so many stories
When are we posting the race thread? Makes no sense to continue in a pre-stage thread from yesterday
Nathaniel Ward
You can't, particularly in Mountains. It's already a nightmare to not stop public services or block emergency services with one road.
Tyler Kelly
Plan b's are hard to do when you need to (get permission) to close off a whole bunch of roads, move over all the logistics that had been planned months in advance.
I think what we are going to see is a version of the plan b they had. But to really get a full stage out of today they would have had to have a plan with a completely different stage and a different finish 30-50k away. Is that really something you think they should have prepared?...
The weather condition appears to be quite extreme even today, there's plenty of rain, thunderstorm...No helicopter today and no RV along the road.
It appears the rider will still start but the production could be crappy.
Too bad its so short, it had the potential to truly be a "last boss" kind of ride.
Easton King
As soon as yesterday's stage was hinted to be neutralized the Rai commentator said that every rider would use that as an excuse of how he got fucked over. And here we are.
Grayson Mitchell
If there is hail/rain/snow or even a thunderstorm they should just have each rider decide individually if they want to continue or not. Have them each sign a waiver form if they want to continue and let's race

>Shelford made his Test debut for the All Blacks later that year against France in a 19–7 victory in Toulouse, and then was a notable victim of the infamous "Battle of Nantes" in the second Test. Roughly 20 minutes into the match, he was caught at the bottom of a rather aggressive ruck, and an errant French boot found its way into Shelford's groin, somehow ripping his scrotum and leaving one testicle hanging free. He also lost four teeth in the process. Incredibly, after discovering the injury to his scrotum, he calmly asked the physio to stitch up the tear and returned to the field before a blow to his head left him concussed. He was substituted and watched the remainder of the game from the grandstand where he witnessed the All Blacks lose 16–3. To this day Shelford has no memory of the game.

I agree just like Quintana but Herbals Vo2max is how higher than Froomes you know why they call him the beast in Spanish? He can hold on over 420watts for a good chunk of time
Jack Parker
It was during the universal exposition in Brussels (1958) where they wanted to show what Congolese looks like. So they took a family from a tribute of Congo and put them in a cage with a hut. And since most Belgians thought African where poor little things, they wanted to give food to the little black children

Because then we'd have to build the infrastructure to match the newfound enthusiasm. That's not going to happen because we pander to the fat, lazy and elderly car drivers.

Not that surgeon guy, unemployed former med student here. Solid advice by him but I have something to add. Don't assume that people don't want you around them. Of course you still have to ask, but if you want to get into surgery you should participate in as many operations as possible. Assuming you are genuinely interested of course. Always ask if you could do tasks like sewing etc., tasks where you feel "hey, I could totally do that". There are really no limits for that, they might let you do stuff like cut a bowel section when it needs to be removed anyway. Only if you ask, that is. Once the surgeons get to know you they will trust you more and let you practice all that stuff. And you should practice sutures and knots at home.
>the polacks never start it tho Fucking bullshit. Fuck off with your polshit, nobody fucking cares. Let's all post bikes in pol hurrrrr.

I remember you ! I'm not that much into surgery, ofc it's interesting since it's one of the specialization with the biggest "social recognition"if we can say it that way. Thx
No, do ask questions. It shows interest. Dont just ask questions for questions' sake and dont ask super basic stuff but do ask questions. Surgery is quite stressful and sometimes we need to concentrate and if you ask a question then some people mightbscoff at you but that's ok, we dont hold a grudge. You'll get a feeling for it. Just be confident. Surgery is still a domain for alpha males, we prey on weakness, be confident, know your shit and crack some jokes, we appreciate it. You need to convince your docs that you are somewhat capable and know your limits. If i think of you as someone who knows what he can do and whonisnt afraid to ask for help, i'll let you do a lot of stuff. But if you are a shy, submissive guy who is agraid to open his mouth i mostly wont bother with you.

Cow tipping is real but you need to do it under a full moon, where the cows go into a kind of coma state. You shouldn't bring a flashlight (or need one).
It is a cool field but it takes its toll. But if you like it it is the most amazing work you can do. What do you want to be then? Urology is interesting as well (inb4 dick toucher)

I'm sure it's a cool field. But it takes a lot of hour no ? You work 60h/weel at least no ? I'm just wondering about surgery for the manual part too, I don't want to only be an inter where the only thing you do is intelectual masturbation and you don't do anything manual. I don't know if you understand what i try to say.
I'd like to work in cancerology/oncology first or nuclear physician. Yes I thought about urology/neprhology after my physiopathology lectures, fun things (the exam wasn't though). But I'll mostly wait the internships to see what the reality is of every specialization to have a better idea.

I asked them how Brexit could possibly benefit me. They told me that we put more in than we get out. I informed them that it's an investment as stronger neighbours with better infrastructure and qualified workforce is mutually beneficial - plus France and Germany are larger contributors and that it's not a charitable donation. They said less homelessness but they couldn't explain how we have one of the highest rates of homelessness in the EU. They said we would be free to trade with other nations but they couldn't assure me that any large economy would offer more favourable terms than what we already have. Then they got angry and told me I wouldn't listen to reason.

Thoroughly enjoyable tour lads. Would have been improved by the presence of Froome and Roglic but will definitely take this.
For all the retards claiming Allah would have gotten time back in the final part of yesterday's stage, this is what would have happened if the final part of the stage was raced.

Honestly a more realistic team is 1. Dumoulin 2. Kruijswijk 3. Bennett 4. De Plus 5. WVA 6. Teunissen 7. Groenewegen
And 8 depends on strategy -Martin if they want someone to pull on the flat -Grondahl Jansen if they want the full sprinterstrain for Groenewegen -1 of Bouwman/Tolhoek (depending on who's better) if they want another mountain domestique
Think Roglic is going for the Giro again, they're not gonna do retarded 'muh trident' tactics like Movistar

A dane wouldve won it for them, but they became too insecure and decided to pull him out

They should drop the sprinters, they are the only ones that could compete with Inoes, they need to go all out on the GC.
Daniel Allen
Their riders are nice guys (or well, those three, Moscon is quite the asshole), but Brailsford is an utter cunt

That's easy to say when those sprinters did win them 3 stages and is the most elite sprinting team in the world atm. That in itself also has a lot of worth and is hard to just give up like that.

>It's not fair lads, how can we stop them? Panzerwagen suicide attack.
Christian Clark
The question was who will be beat them next year. You lack reading comprehension to go along with your lack of cycling knowledge. You probably shouldn't post in here again. It's embarrassing for you.
That already happens, Domoulin, Nibali, Roglic, Yates all targeted the giro as their main goal, any of them in good shape would have ended above Kruijswijk and Buchmann at least so it's not like the other tours only get scraps.
Same for the sprinters many of them were at the Giro too.
Evan Bell
You don't even know what you're talking about
