I grew up regionally in AUS and everyone did play soccer until they were 12. Then it was time to play a real sport (AFL, LEAGUE, UNION).

In Sydney there a heaps of competitions with ABCDEF grades with 10 teams in each comp where league above the age of 18 is dying and merging comps all over the place and can barely get competitive A grade teams. Menai hawks used to be the biggest football club in the Southern Hemisphere.
