There's no secret of how to do the next trick you want to land besides to fucking suffer until you land it. There are no rules to skateboarding except stop doing that. Don't buy gimmicky bullshit products to help "train" just go skate with your boys and have fun! If you have a tent and a car and some homies that are down then you can go on a weekend camping skate trip for super cheap to concrete parks or street spots in cities. Post your tricks, receive stoke/hate from anons
I grew up in Edison NJ and never knew this guy or such a skating history existed. Such a cool interview, and I never skated a day in my life. youtube.com/watch?v=7_KJiwPXPds
youtube.com/watch?v=h4M5rPSf0ZY I have no interest in actually skating but I looked at some old videos of him that he made in the 80s, and I'm recognizing all these parts of the Rutgers Campus that still exist today. I love videos like this, snap-shots of time that use to exist and is no longer there. It is so much more fun when its of places you walked around a million times, but its just 30 years in the past.
His skating is so different than what people do now. He hits curbs and ramps with such intensity and speed. Growing up in the 80s must have been dope.
Dude skateboarding videos are going to be a huge source of local history. I’ve watched some vids from the nineties in my hometown and so much shit has changed since then, was cool to see it how I remembered it again.
Jackson Parker
Guys, what’s that super fast wiggly turn thing called all the dudes used to do in old skateboard videos while cruising? Is it just a type of slalom manoeuvre basically? Reason I ask is watching someone do that made me realise my trucks are prob tighter than they should be, but I would get major wheelbite trying to do that
Wyatt Diaz
Something like this? youtu.be/0OY2hFc9EPM?t=44 I can do it with my loose trucks to a certain extent.
Evan Barnes
Yeah just need a little more height on it
Gavin Rodriguez
Yeah man! So it gains them more speed as well as traction, probably why I’ve seen most people doing it on downhill sections
Jordan Reed
Once you loosen your trucks and get used to it it's so much fucking better. More control and more fun.
Ryder Phillips
try doing the flick slower and put your power into pulling it through the nose and up if that makes any sense
Yeah I need to get used to it. I’ve loosened them up to the point where I’m like a millimetre away from my deck touching my wheels when I’ve got most of my weight over one side of the board. I don’t wanna go any looser than that as I’ve got 78a 55mm wheels and when I first used them my trucks were loose and when I leaned too far to one side I got wheel bite which was like hitting the brakes. Lucky I wasn’t going super fast. Also speed wobbles.
I learned switch fs willy's today but for some reason I can't for the life of me do it regular. Which is dumb because I can fs crooked. What are some tricks that you Anons find easier switch?
idk that's how it made sense in my head you do like a gazelle spin style scoop and pop/ get your front foot out of the way like a pressure flip and uh it just werks. just try it desu it's easier than it looks switch flip blunts/ nollieflip back noseblunts. my switchflips are just floatier and more laid back i guess and makes them lock in really easily. it took forever to learn to flip in regular. switch and nollie 360 inwards are way easier too people tend to lean back more when they pop switch so maybe you just naturally put less weight on the front truck that way? that sounds scary.
Whoever was asking for skate videos with metal in them last thread I forgot about this one. Probably my favorite video of all time considering none of these guys were pro at the time and were really just doing it for fun and not to be the best, and their styles and trick selection shows. And all the classic 70s metal is tight youtu.be/rqhd8XWJhzg
I had a few tricks in several of ty moss' videos (another cringy faggot) and people found my social media somehow and I got shitloads of random 12year old followers dming me asking how to 5050. My brother actually had a reoccurring role as a fucking character on the episodes, I thought it was the gayest faggoty shit in the world, he also agreed but just went with it for the fans. Eventually he gained like 10k followers in Instagram just from saying silly shit into the camera during Ty's vlogs. I refused to talk on camera or even be near him while he was selfie filming. I just rolled with ty cause he would drive us to sweet skate parks and sometimes film me skating. With the YouTube money ty bought his own house at 20. It really opened my eyes to how faggoty vlogging is. My brother gets paid good money just to manage his social media accounts now.
I could have easily just doxxed myself but I don't care.
Christian Davis
if it gets you money why not? you're getting hate for it but at least you have more expendable income than the general population
Is it really true it's never too old to start skating?
John Price
informationpill me on why we hate Braille
Christian Howard
I am the guy who asked for them. Thank u my dude
Lincoln Young
>YOU' RE NEVER TOO OLD TO SKATE NOW GO OUT AND SHRED yes probably
Gavin Hall
Soulless corporate click bait cash grab for 12 year olds. There's a whole world of skateboarding videos out there and niggas choose to watch 'GLASS SKATEBOARD?!!? HOSPITAL TIME!!!!" for 18 min of plugs and 2 min of half hearted obligated skating
My anxiety is really fucking up learning to skate. I bought one and practiced enough to where I could ride without falling off it in my back garden. I got comfortable going at speed etc and was pretty happy cruising. I then got too over confident and tried going down this hill, got bad speed wobbles and had to run it out and almost faceplanted. Now every time I pick up speed or hit a slope I start tensing up and getting scared which will make it speed wobble anyway as being tense makes it happen easier. Can’t seem to break the fear. My roads on a slight slope, i.e you could get to the bottom from the top without pushing. I’ve been trying to go down it to overcome this but as I said, once I start picking up speed I get scared now. Dunno how to break it... I’m 100% aware how much of a pussy this make me seem but when anxiety turns to fear it takes over a bit.
Julian Walker
How do I pop my tricks higher without losing control?
I’ve been using OJ 55mm Mini Hot Juice. They’re 78a so pretty damn soft and pick up speed super quick. I was thinking of switching to a set of 54mm 97a wheels as they won’t pick up speed so quick, but the roads around me are pretty rough so if I was on flat I’d need to push constantly.
Luis Lee
Depends. Jonny Giger is an excellent tech and flat skater that doesn't plug much but stretches vids to 10 mins. Other than that, Berrics are awesome for different formats of skate vids, like Ninja Training, It Must Be Nice (which I love), BATB and other skate-related content. Thrasher for skate parts. Check out the "Epicly Later'd" series from Vice if you want to know about skate culture and some of the most well known people that ever skated.
Lincoln Gray
Vlogging is cancer. Watch amatuer homie videos. Shit like the "a happy medium" series, all weekendtages are fucking amazing and funny if you have an immature sense of humor, pyramid country, anything shane Auckland has produced, the entire sk8rats channel kills it (a bunch of fuck around appearances by Cory Kennedy before he went to prison) anti heros "beauty and the beast" series is epic. Destination unknown is a modern classic and it's free on YouTube. Pretty much all the old anti hero videos are mostly just friends skating together. Love letters to skateboarding is so fucking sick, I could watch those for hours and I guess technically that's a kind of vlog. All the ones I listed have a hanging out with your friends type vibe, it's not just endless banger after banger down 20 stair rails. Idk if there are any mindless consumption type skate channels that aren't awful out there, there might be, that's not my cup of tea anyway
Liam Cooper
I really miss MAJ3R
Lucas Garcia
When you haul ass you're going to get folded from time to time. You just have to accept it. There's no secret
Jayden Miller
Try scootering you little bitch
Kayden Ortiz
Yeah I think I just need to learn to let go with it, part of skateboarding is being on something that’s moving independently from you after all
But I don’t like bum sex. It’s just anxiety anyway. I used to tear shit up when I was a teenager with no fear of anything. Once you have it it’s like mould in a damp house, keeps growing and takes over everyone that was u touched before.
Just wondered if anyone else is going through the same thing. I know it’s hard to understand other people aren’t the exact same as you.
I shattered my elbow skateboarding when I was 20. I had to get surgery, titanium rods, 2 months rehab just to get partial mobility 3/4 strength and constant arthritis back. It took me a year of being too scared to really roll around comfortably. Then a year of trying shit that was in my wheel house but a little risky. Then a year of skating how I was before my Injury. Now I'm finally getting confident and hucking myself again. 2 seconds of slamming took years of skateboarding away from me. The only way to get over it is acceptance, know that the pain is worth it if you really really love it, and having a beer or two to calm the nerves. Now if I get in my head about trying a trick I'll just sit down. I only skate hard when I feel fired the fuck up to my goddamn bones and ready to tear shit down. Otherwise i just stay home. Since my Injury I skate an hour or two a week now. It's part of growing up I guess.
Wyatt Lopez
I have a similar kind of issue. I’ve broken my shoulder twice in 2 separate motorcycle crashes from people pulling out in front of me without looking properly. I think a big part of the fear is worrying about falling on my shoulder and fucking it up worse as it’s still really bad a year after the second crash. Like I can’t get arm above my head or raise it out to the side fully any more. I used to skate between the ages of 12-14 and I’m trying to get back into it at 33 as a replacement for the feel of riding a motorcycle. I’ve gotten to the point where I can ride it comfortably again and was enjoying myself for a couple months but the speed wobbles made it scary again and now I’m back to over thinking everything instead of just going with it. Maybe this was just a dumb idea lol.
>buys two sets of wheels before he can even ride down a little hill or ollie. What a joke lmao. Pack it up and go home faggot.
Oliver Cox
carve down the hill instead of going straight down, you wont pick up as much speed and since youre constantly turning you wont get speed wobbles
Chase Moore
Yeah ones a cruiser set for less pushing. And I can ride down a hill, did you actually read the post or are you just deliberately being a contrarian, obtuse faggot? Keep trying though dude.
Landon Walker
Thank you for actually useful information.
Cameron Hernandez
or start from like 1/4 up the hill and gradually start higher and higher until you can do the whole thing. also learn how to footbrake if you havent already even though it looks lame as shit
Noah Carter
tws and thrasher for parts, jenkem has some good random stuff too
You're a fucking asshole. The fucks wrong with 2 different set ups for the kind of skating you want to do that day? I bet you're gonna say something gay like "I've been skating way longer than you and I'm way better than you!!!!" Instead of just answering why 2 boards is a problem
Lincoln Cox
Having two set ups before you can even ollie or bomb a hill is the kookiest shit in the entire world. Having two sets of wheels you are gonna keep swapping out on one deck is beyond retarded, your situation isnt changing that much, you're just rolling around. Using your gear as an excuse as to why you can't do something is the lamest and most kiddie shit. Theres kids learning to skate on hand me down boards with rusted fucking bearings and dirty ass griptape. If you just want a hobby you can sink money into get into model airplanes or some shit. Or don't, keep wasting money on different parts until inevitably you bail again and give up. At least you'll help keep the skate industry afloat that way.
Julian Roberts
I wanna be clear this only applies to noobs. Of course its fine to have two different set ups, if you want a vert/tranny set up and a street set up. Or if you want a cruiser set up to make skating to spots easier, cool, no problem.
Logan Murphy
>I’ve been using OJ 55mm Mini Hot Juice. They’re 78a so pretty damn soft and pick up speed super quick. I was thinking of switching to a set of 54mm 97a wheels as they won’t pick up speed so quick, but the roads around me are pretty rough so if I was on flat I’d need to push constantly.
Where the fuck does it say anything about his equipment being the reason he can’t do something? You’re projecting. He wants a softer wheel for the conditions he’s experiencing and FYI the reason companies make different hardness wheels is for different conditions. Bitching about people buying product from core skate companies is kook as fuck. Welcome to kook: beach population, you
Brayden Clark
>your skateboarding abilities determine if you’re a kook or not You sound like a fucking poser bro
Tyler James
I see I angered the rich fags. Why dont you guys just go stare at your quiver and admire all your different set ups.
what is even the point of a rocker on a board with wheels?
Easton Adams
You’re honestly so dumb. Yes I could skate shit ground and barely move 2 feet, or I could swap over to a softer set of wheels which already have the bearings in and it takes all of 30 seconds. Why would I make things harder just for the sake of it? I just found the soft wheels too fast on hills. You’re also trying to provoke me with the image I posted in the last thread so good luck with that lmfao. I can’t believe you actually saved it.
Jace Barnes
You’re lower to the ground
Wyatt Lopez
You angered me, trying to shit talk beginners into quitting pisses me the fuck off. Had someone done that to me when I was a little kid and I listened to them my life would he shit right now. I wish someone would have done that shit to you your first week skating just for asking a question, then there would be one less poser at the park judging people for skating to the park on a cruiser. If I heard you gossiping about someones two boards at the park I'd tell you to shut the fuck up
I'll be honest I watched a couple of these vloggers for a few weeks earlier this year when I got back into Skateboarding. A lot of then we're pretty cool and flashy at first, then it became formulaic and obvious padding to get the 10minute ad revenue and I stopped. I still watch Ben degros videos though. There's also some little British (?) Kid that is ok every once in a while
Juan Evans
54 bones stf cuz my town is shit with cracks. Big wheels are just comfortable and fast and 54 seems like a good still-do-tricks size. I can't believe we used to Street skate with low trucks and miniature wheels. It actually makes more since to skate those now since there seems to be a lot more parks
Joshua Bennett
53-55mm 99a or 101a duro. F4's, OJ Elites or Bones STF's are my wheels of choice.
53 101a f4s but I think they're like 48 now because of power sliding
Adrian Anderson
I wore my wheels down to probably 35ish and when I recently bought new ones I can't believe how I used to push a mile to school every day
Carter Wright
JOHNNYGIGER IS BRAILE DUDE didnt mean to type in caps btw
Robert Gonzalez
its got more to do with pegan shit i think but ya the ss liked it
Lincoln Bailey
Learn to powrslide and bleed speed. Learn more control so you can actually feel in control of what you're doing.
Camden Phillips
>buying 2 sets of wheels makes you retarded >but it’s ok to buy an entire other board for cruising rather than just swap wheels over
You’re a special kind of retard user. Whether you ride a cruiser board or just swap over to cruiser wheels it’s the exact same thing but you hate one and like the other, you moron. How are you this dumb.
Is getting sponsored (skateshops not included) in this day and age still about raw skill or does the size of your media empire (social media followers, value of your name as a brand) dictate if someone picks you up?
Camden Thomas
That's some crybaby shit you just said, user.
Chase Campbell
Hey guys, beginner here. I just started to learn how to bicycle. Im getting alright at pedaling around but I keep falling off anytime I try to brake. I'm also having a little trouble staying on my bike when going fast, I think its because my road bike wheels are so small. I bought a road bike to cruise around with and I bought a bmx bike for tricking so I thought my bases were covered. I was thinking about buying a mountain bike now so I can learn to ride better. Right now its kinda a pain going over cracks and having to avoid potholes. I was also thinking maybe getting a decent kickstand would help me not fall over. Hopefully Ill learn how to go down and up a curb soon, but the guy at the shop said I might need to upgrade my suspension for that.
Juan Adams
You’re so mad! Holy shit. I bet you don’t even skate, probably some fat wrestling fag living out his THPS fantasies while desperately trying to stir shit up lmao
