Not at all. When he signed it he was a 27 year old with incredibly versatile offensive tools and a track record of improving every year. Sometimes shit just goes sideways.

Again, he was younger at the time of injury. Watching him, it doesn't really seem like the physical aspect is holding him back as much as the mental trauma. If he can get over that and stay in the zone, he'll probably be fine.

You could make a case that the guard positions are interchangeable, but there are typically different responsibilities split between the 1 and 2 Harden's done both, but when there's an alternative he usually runs the 2. There's absolutely a different between the forwards, in terms of both size and skillset though. PFs are closer to centers than SFs a fair amount of the time.

Prime Duncan would be one of the best defensive players in the league. He was actually extremely switchable - young Duncan played small forward in some super-jumbo lineups, and obviously that wouldn't be possible today but it speaks to his versatility. And I don't think you should penalize a guy for being willing to cede touches to other guys on offense - he was still a capable scorer and still would be an extremely capable, useful scorer who could carry the load when necessary, in addition to his tremendous value on defense. He could fit comfortably into basically any team.

It's true that Kobe Bryant would be basically the same high-usage, inefficient scorer and stat-sheet-filler in any era. But Duncan, as a true two-way player, is just better and more valuable.

Kobe was coasting on reputation from 05 on, defensively. That is a known fact. Duncan was a better defender even when they were both trying, and then Kobe eventually decided he didn't want to try because he needed the energy to keep forcing up contested shots.

In terms of how good they were as players, I would say that their peaks were roughly the same length. Both of them were really good for a really long time. Kobe has maybe one more elite-level season than Duncan. But Duncan was a better player at his peak.

In terms of how competitive their teams were on the court, yes, Duncan benefited a lot from being in a good organization, especially after his prime. But Kobe didn't really help himself. Kobe basically forced the Lakers to trade Shaq, for example, basically wasting 3 years of his prime, and then towards the end of his career, he insisted on being paid like a superstar and continuing to jack up shots constantly. Also Kobe demanded to be traded like a million times.
