The objective answer is Americans literally see soccer as a sport for women and children. I cannot stress this enough, it's not a meme. Therefor women are encouraged to play it well into college (which they get great training from thanks to Title IX), while men are encouraged to play a "real" sport once they hit puberty, drastically reducing the talent pool. No American boy grows up daydreaming of becoming a soccer player.

This kind of shit makes me hesitate in playing casual footy for cardio. I'm terrified of some try-hard autist sending my ankles to snap city.

I've taken swinging forearms to the head and neck in rugby and its hurt considerably less than innocuous little taps to the knee or ankle.

Sure a lot of players milk it like fags but sometimes the little things hurt like hell. Like when you stub your toe.

I've played club and school rugby since I was 6 and didn't play any organised soccer until I was like 18 or 19 and then at a social level. You'll still get knocks in soccer and your legs, well mine anyway, were much more sore after than from rugby. There's elbows and kicks to the knees and stuff happens, it's not really a faggy game like some people think, although there are plenty of whiney faggots play it that would be too scared to even look at a rugby field.

Soccer is the main sport for women in the US. 2nd is probably softball. Male athletes tend to pursue basketball, baseball or football because it's what they grow up watching and you can get rich without leaving the country. Not to mention no other nation puts the resources into women's soccer that we do

Because the people that do watch womens sports and play them always make it into some big thing where "haha we're better than the men!" Nobody who watches men's sports gives a shit about women's sports at all.
