Boavista had been very solid for years before the 2001 title. Then, due to some events, they became progressively weaker. First there was the debt incurred for the new stadium. Unlike rival clubs like Braga or V.Guimarães, the city hall told them to fuck off and didn't provide any help with the stadium's costs.
Then the powers that be fucked them in the ass in the Apito Dourado case and sent them to the 2nd league on the desk. They still fell to the 3rd league, but were brought back, on the desk again, to the 1st league (just Portugal things)

They're slowly recovering now. Or maybe not, since they haven't reached an agreement with the debt creditors yet.
Only Braga is capable of pulling a Boavista 2001 atm and they've been close to that a couple of times. Maybe V.Guimarães can do it too if their managers get their shit together for once in a lifetime.
