This thread is for the discussion of all things Sumo
Nagoya basho around the corner.
Takakeisho is out and demoted for September.
For those just getting into Sumo and wondering where to watch/learn about this ancient and sacred sport the following youtube channels are a great place to start.
Who’s going to win the July tournament? For me, it’s Tochinoshin

Haha time for /sumo/. >Takakeisho is out and demoted for September. feels bad, mang Hakuho!

There's a good chance all the senior sanyaku are going to get raped this basho except maybe Hakuho, since he sat out the last tourney. Every last one of them is nursing some kind of injury. At least Takakeisho is smart enough to not ruin his future and take another basho off to heal.
Salt man will need to make sure and lay down an extra heavy trail this basho, as he'll need it to find his way back from Juryo once he gets his candy stolen one more time in makuuchi.
Enho is going to learn, once again, that M * A will always prevail in the long run, and he'll get something broken / fucked up again due to getting landed on by some dude that outweighs him by 150 lbs.
I'm excited for the makoooshtuh bouts the most, though, as those guys seem the hungriest.
Fellows, it is a pleasure to see this thread. I have been looking forward to bantering about sumo with you since the end of the last one. Welcome back, everyone.
>Make America ... What does the rest of her shirt say? I need to know!

>Tochinoshin injured his left shoulder in training yesterday. "Yesterday, you know, when I was doing some sumo.." he said. Today he was careful and had only three bouts against Aoiyama and Tochiouzan. He will be taking painkillers and and will be careful. It's a bit of a shock to him after regaining his Ozeki status last basho. "Nothing good will come from looking down, so I'm going to be looking up," he said doubt Takayasu's time to shine
Seems like there's much more injuries the last few years. Was it always like this? Maybe it's just because the high profile guys are getting hurt so you notice it more.

>Tochinoshin injured his left shoulder in training yesterday no wonder with the shoulders like this. if it's really not some synthol filler, he should pump up his shoulders like a crazy man.
woah, the thread is starting off early! There's now a life sized Tochinoshin statue in Tokyo's Central Park. He's holding a rugby ball because he's the goodwill ambassador to the 2019 Rugby World Cup, which will take place in Japan.
>much more injuries the last few years. There are. As the average weight of the rikishi have risen, so have the number of serious injuries. 300+ pound men aren't supposed to be taking break falls the way they do, as one wrong move will result in too much force generated on something not designed for it, like a ligament, tendon, bone, or supporting muscle.

>Yoshikaze Masatsugu Out this tournament with a fucky knee.
So that's former Ozeki Takakeisho, Maegashira 11 Yoshikaze.....anyone I missed?
All the sekitori are just fucked up now, and it's hard to tell when somebody loses because they got beat, or because they got beat by injury.
daily reminder that the last tournament was rigged in order to have a Japanese winner; even Hakuho missed it on purpose to not disturb the general plan and also his application for citizenship
I hear Takakeisho is out (or rather not even in)? That's hysterical.

>disrespecting your yokozuna like that Disgracefur!

>I hear Takakeisho is out (or rather not even in)? Yeah. He felt he was ready to fight again, but his oyakata thinks he hasn't healed properly yet. This means that, in September, he'll be in the same position Tochinoshin was in last May, needing 10 wins to go back up to Ozeki.
