The 3 run margin only matters if you pitch at least one full inning (and less than 3, because if you pitch 3 it's a save no matter the run difference). If there's a pitching substitution after the start of the 9th inning, the tying run needs to be on deck for it to be a save situation. Is there a single franchise more embarassing than the Montreal Bay Maple Rays? Let's break that down.

The problem

The real elephant in the room about the Toronto Maple Leafs roster, when you consider all these changes made over the last few years, is that there aren't that many people in it that are completely off the ice. Most are either working or teaching, or making their living outside of the sport. I was shocked for you to know how many people still live in Toronto and still play baseball (despite all the changes to the game). The Leafs organization doesn't spend a lot of money on players to try to add value for the fans, so in order to get younger players you may have to trade some players. This means some of those who don't make it onto games are left sitting in a waiting list, or if they're young that they don't make the cut into the next year's roster.

The real tragedy:

Many of the people on the roster aren't even players. They might be great and well-paid position players or just not very well known. Some of these guys aren't even considered for the Opening Night roster! Some guys have been on the team forever now… Some of those guys don't even get to do a game!

Atlanta has a trio of big hitters in Matt Kemp, Miguel Gonzalez and Freddie Freeman, so it won't be too difficult to get Kemp traded or someone else to get Gonzalez and Freeman going for a solid starting rotation. If the Royals or Blue Jays can snag the Rangers top pitching prospect, it would make good business sense to move up to acquire that pitcher or something else in hopes that he or she can lead off the pen against the Indians.
