Finland is one of the worst countries I've ever had the displeasure of living in. It's filled with mostly fat, disgusting, uncultured alcoholics with bad social skills and the mentality of a 12 year old child.
Most Finnish jokes boil down to shallow sex, poop and, for some fucking reason, Hitler jokes (the guy died over 70 years ago, move on) with no wit to speak of.
Finnish cuisine is mostly unflavoured and bland and Finns are very ignorant of international cooking and often fuck it up by being lazy and ignorant. By the way, putting sallad beside your dish consisting of fat and carbs doesn't make it healthy, its just water.
Finns are also incredibly lazy and have extremely bad costumer service, they seem to settle for everything being "good enough" without putting in any effort into what they're doing, if Finns try to emulate something from a foreign country they simply take the surface level stuff without researching what made said thing work in the first place.
Finns are also incredibly alcoholic and drink low quality alcohol, not to enjoy the drink itself, but to get drunk as quickly as possible. You even get patriotic ivee your cheap alcohol that's branded as "Finnish" despite being made with foreing ethanol that's then diluted by water in Finland. Finland also have shitty education where less than half of the population even goes to high school.

They think that they're not in danger of a crash, but instead are being put on a dangerous path through education/education about what is possible. This leads to many drunk drivers and people driving drunk driving. Some of the problems can be reduced by getting around this country. Driving in this country you have some basic rules about how to drive, who is supposed to be in front of you, where to stop when you stop, and so it goes. This all sounds very familiar to anyone who has been to a city like Prague that isn't Helsinki. It also means that you can start a conversation with a person and you will have a good conversation. I remember speaking to a friend of mine over a beer about her trip to Copenhagen and she was surprised to hear that Copenhagen is not a great place to visit.

It's hard to imagine what Finnish joke would make its way there in its current form, and I'm not one to put great effort into making jokes about anything. But in general, jokes about Finns make me cringe in the slightest. The reason is that I don't know enough Finnish to know if that funny one I made was funny.
As a kid growing up in Sweden (I was five years old, the original joke started in 1989) I remember not too terribly well being able to tell jokes about Swedish culture to my friends (it was never about anything else anyway), but somehow it has become more and more an obsession. I've come full circle on why I hate Finnish jokes. Finnish comedies were written to sell people on Finland (but I don't really agree with that). So I guess it's fair for people to think that the jokes themselves suck, since they aren't funny in the least. But I just don't think it's right to think in terms of a joke or the language being used to deliver a joke.

The only positives to this year's playoffs are that, for the second night in a row, the team took an important 3-1 lead in the third period and got it righted by taking a 3-2 game in overtime. It was a nice thing as both teams looked solid through that series and I think we would have been better off if we had scored a hat trick in it. But I also think a couple of teams that were playing better and not in as bad of of a place like last year or previous years should have been able to find the back of the net. For a team with the depth of this young group and a lot of potential, these playoffs feel more like a preseason than a real series.
And so, a good season ending series for the Leafs. But a season ending playoff series is just a bad season ending series.

We got our first line from the last game, but duchene still gets more shots than any other line. Rinne is in an okay spot, but when the season ends he will be in much better shape than he currently is with his injury. He hasn't shown enough to suggest that he can play for 10 more years. I think he'll stick around and play on a more consistent basis for the next 5 years or so that could easily end up being more of him getting bumped around on the ice each game. They will likely move him somewhere he may actually get a chance to score goals in. In his case, he will see more and more of that power play with this team, because he has always been able to be effective with that power play. The last time they won the cup, they had duchene out and his production only peaked after the captaincy ended. The only thing I see in him now though, is that he's very inconsistent in terms of his skating and play and needs to step up his game, and his attitude has not improved with each game he plays.

That's a bold claim. The thing with the Leafs is that they don't take it lightly. You know when a team is winning the NHL Draft Lottery, I mean, when the kid turns down the offer for the lottery to just play the rest of his life in the KHL and you laugh and cheer? Or you wonder why they go the other way with your pick, or why everyone thinks that there's so much interest in a goalie and the Sabres and their goalie situation? And yet, because they're really good? They're good enough to win?
It's not that difficult to find some of the Leafs with names like "The Great One" or "Great One Kessel" in the top 20.
Some fans say we're only good enough if we're the Jets (they might be right at this point, I guess) or that there's no one with a positive future as long as we're playing for the Leafs. The truth is, however, that our greatest strengths lie in having the experience to adapt to the pace of the NHL game and being able to adapt to it in the way that we need to.
And it's really not as if our best players and best assets are locked in or there's a certain kind of ceiling around them to fill.

Is he not one of our best two players? He's 27-years-old on his cap, and he played the first 50+ games in Pittsburgh. He was a stud defender before he got injured. He's played in Toronto, where he's won titles, and Montreal where he's won the Presidents' Trophy. I'm sorry this happened, but I don't know if he deserves to walk in the face or not. I'm sorry to fans in here, but he's going to be remembered by those around him like nobody else in the history of sports. The game has changed since Jeff got hurt, and I'm proud of it now for that. That's more than enough, folks. We need to let Jeff go out like it's his final game in front of the fans before he starts playing again.

Teds are drafting well and are sitting pretty on cap space so expect some minor offers but nothing crazy. Panarin chasing big network deals and promos so I don't fault him for it, Bobrovsky is disappointing but I wouldn't want 10 million in cap tied up for 7 years. I don't fault him, but it's the way he handled everything. He pretty much cast a shadow on our entire city. I try not to let a game piss me off so much, but I legitimately dislike him and refuse to clap and welcome him back when the Rangers come to town.
I am optimistic about our pool, Tex, Bemstrom etc, but I hope they are able to get a big name at some point in the next couple years. We might be tolerable next year, but I am not expecting much.

I think that it will be interesting watching next season if Kyle was playing with the Rangers or if he signed with the Blackhawks. I have already seen his brother playing with the Blackhawks as well and I hope both guys are able to enjoy the AHL as much as they have in Chicago.
As far as players left over from last years draft, well, let's just say that the guys that are coming back are a little better when I look at them. Guys like John Mitchell who was with us before (Cody Coyle, Ryan Murray) and then Josh Manson and Ryan Mac in the middle. I am sure we will miss those guys, but I can't fault them for the things that happened last year.

Good luck to the team that has the chance to be the best team from the last few seasons but it's clear that teams like Rangers, Caps, Flyers and Blues were all ahead. With all the options up on the table and no consensus on where Gusev will end up, I can easily see Rangers moving closer to where they should be going, which is to retain Nen as well. That way, he'll be playing for a club that will stay with him the rest of his career. If a player has reached his developmental years (with some exceptions), he'll move on and try to stick with other teams, but if his career is cut short due to injury, I'm sure a club would do everything they possibly can to find a replacement for Nen as soon as he's back.

It's tough to blame Gusev for what happened on an ice surface with no net or netting. He was trying to create space for himself on the forecheck as a skaters did the odd one and he probably knew there was no way the Canucks could use him as they were going to move him around a lot anyway. Maybe even make him an extra defender. Maybe even try to pass on him and keep him in a certain zone where he won't score easily, which would have been the right thing, because he clearly didn't want to do that but it doesn't make sense to give up points for it, because he obviously couldn't have stopped the puck.
But the decision to keep Gusev on the bench was the right one. If the team can't score goals, they won't win games. They're probably better off taking a gamble on Gusev as a possible backup center because some of the players in the NHL were playing center earlier this season in Montreal who weren't as good. But it may have been a bad call for the Flames.
That's not why Gusev was put on the power play. It's because there wasn't a big enough slot and he was on the wrong side.
A contract from Montreal? A trade that would see Gendreau playing all over the place? Of course all players can be traded, but it'd make for a much more interesting off-season for the Oilers as many feel the depth and potential of their roster are at risk in trade.
There is no doubt, in my mind, that a roster overhaul is needed before it's really time to put together a roster overhaul. With that in mind, I'll take this opportunity to list exactly what I think a playoff team needs to improve upon to really make another run in the playoffs, and why that rebuild should commence sooner than later.
It'd be almost inconceivable for the Oilers to miss out on the playoffs in 2020 even if they didn't add a star to their roster. I am confident that they will. They need to improve on how they play hockey, not just in order to become a team that teams in the Eastern Conference can beat and get the kind of wins they expect and demand from their top talent. They need to add some grit and hard hitting on the blueline and find a way to bring in a true goal scorer into the lineup.
I don't see this coming from anyone but a stupid GM who has nothing better to do then to keep playing useless people because if you don't, he gets fired.
The Oilers will need them to score 10 goals in this series for us to give up our season. Last four games they have a 2.16 goals per game average. They also have a 3.06 shots on goal average. That is 2nd lowest team in the NHL even though they give up just 12 goals. They have the 3rd worst Corsi differential. They are allowing 2.8 goal per game. They are allowing 3.35 shots on goal per game. But they are in a tie against the Wild which is terrible for them. Last couple months they are giving up a ton of goals. To add insult to injury, they sit second by a wide margin with 27 shots at even strength compared to the Wild's 20. Not having Gusev will do that to them. And even then this will be on their side of the board and could make things even tougher if the Wild take that lead.
If the Wild score 10 goals like they did a couple weeks ago it would mean they have won three straight for the first time since 2010. And that would allow the Wild to start looking like the good team that they really are inside.

There are two ways to handle that fact. You can either look at the value it will bring a player into this NHL, which I'd like to do. Or, you can look at the value it won't bring and say that a contract that gives you the opportunity to see the game one team at a time will go much better for you. And here you can also see how this could bring back an earlier great to the league.
