Basically soccer is the women’s equivalent here of what American football is to men. It’s the first sport young girls are actively encouraged to try out for. The culture and competition is fierce from the get go. And it’s seen as very prestigious for a woman to play the game at a high level. It’s been that way since Title IX was implemented.
