An example of a ref doing this, but the wrong way, is the British ref at the end of Parker-Whyte. Whyte was hugging the ropes and, rather than wave the fight off, the ref tried to LITERALLY pry Whyte from the ropes so that he could order the bout to continue (Which he was unsuccessful at doing, causing the fight to end).
