What's the future of this tournament? I heard there may not be another one.

Some major European clubs appealed against the change, but as things stand now, there won't be a new one. From 2021 the Club World Cup will be played every four years, expanded with more teams and be played in the summer instead of winter, replacing the Confederations Cup.

There won't be.

>The only meme tournament Mexico has won
I'll miss it

Welp, F. Thanks for answering, toothpaste

There was honestly no point to it, it's like shitty world cup
Club world cup every 4 years, now that will be kino

>The only meme tournament Mexico has won
Uuuuuhhhhhhh...

They could’ve expanded the confederation cup instead of the fifa club world cup, having top 4 teams from each of the 6 continental tournaments compete and have a 24 team kino tournament.

>let's make another World Cup!

Mickey Mouse cup isnt a meme

that's bad for?

world cup is good because it's only every 4 years
We could play it every year, but it wouldn't be as half as special as it is today

hope we win it before it disappears desu

Part of the prestige of the World Cup is that it doesn't happen often. Or have you not noticed the indifference the Copa América is getting because of how often it's being held (something that will stop next year with the change in schedule)? Now respect my quads and fuck off.

Too late.

none

Why the fuck would anyone want another world cup before a world cup? The club world cup expansion makes far more sense since it will help develop the game away from the current eurocentric landscape where every good player from around the world gets sold to European clubs. If the club world cup becomes big, that will incentivize clubs and leagues outside of Uefa to throw more money into the development of the sport and into buying more expensive talented players to compete.

We might unironically go back to the pre-Bosman days where every national team had 90+% of their players from their domestic leagues.

good point

This doesn't seem possible, but the burger is right. The Club World Cup expansion is one of the smartest decisions FIFA have made in a long time (not a high bar, but still).

oh....

the lack of extra time also doesn't help copa's reputation desu

I agree in principle but I also think extra time is boring as fuck 90% of the time, so I don't mind it personally.

it can prevent a lot of penalty shootouts

Penalties are only bad if you lose them lmao otherwise they're thrilling and exciting

Taking part in it was already an achievement.
