What can be done to fix F1?

The drivers are pretty much irrelevant, it's all due to the engineers.

Attached: BLF2dhe.jpg (1242x1189, 318K)

somehow I feel that if Lewis was white, it wouldn't be a problem.

Bingo
Look at the schumacher years where Ferrari had the best car for most of that period. These faggots weren't even born but they go on about it as if that was a great time

how is this sport fair when some cars are better than the others? shouldnt it be more about driver skill?? or are the differing teams supposed to add some variability? just seems like if youre not on the ‘right’ team youre already massively disadvantaged

more diversity

just like every other team sport then?

You ‘re massively disadvanted in basketball for not having certain shoes?
Or in the nhl when one team plays with a certain stick?
Or the nfl when basically everyone uses the same helmets and padding?
Or in soccer where the biggest difference is wearing a t or a polo and similar cleats?

You know what he means, in team sports you rely on teammates and if you're not in the right team your chances of winning are slim to none, in F1 your vehicle and engineers are your teammates

The lack of parity in F1 is just too much for me. I tried getting into the sport when Vettel was dominating and it was just too damn boring. Plus cars 'arr rook same'.

>in team sports you rely on teammates
Yes you rely on their skills. Your teammates aren’t using special shoes to give them hyper bounce allowing them to dunk or special enginereed back to the future soccer cleats that allow soneone to blast a ball at 300kmh. If someones vehicle in F1 has better acceleration, reaches top speeds faster, turns better, produces more downforce and has better traction, how are they not already at a large advantage?

Ferrari didn't have the best car, other teams beat them and were within spitting distance. Championships were decided by less than a races worth of points.
The problem is that merc developed a 1 cylinder model for an engine then lobbied for regulations that suited them

Nobody really hates Lewis Hamilton except for contrarian Yea Forums edgelords who giggle when they say the word nigger. People hate Mercedes dominance more than anything. They nostalgia Ferrari Dominance because Ferrari dominance because most of the so called F1 experts here didn't even watch F1 during Ferrari dominance. Ferrari dominance was also boring, but it was not as boring as Mercedes dominance because back then even midfield teams had freak days where they could end up on the podium. That only happened twice in 5 years now Mercedes is also boring as a brand, as a team and people are tired of how good that they are.

>most of the so called F1 experts here didn't even watch F1 during Ferrari dominance
Exactly, general is full of kids pretending

this. F1 is not a sport.

lmao it wouldn't have happened with a white driver, check the latest mercedes ads, americans bought F1, they want to expand in the "minority" market, because most F1 watchers are white.

t. Enjoys another Patriots NFL win

As opposed to enjoying another Mercedes win? And no, im a Giants fan. Fuck boston

because building the car is part of the competition, just like in any other relevant motorsport series

Nothing. Mercedes and FIA are in cahoots and the sport is all but dead. It costs far too much to get into the series now and even that won’t get you to win because Mercedes has the car designed to win under the rules. The field sizes will continue to drop and Hamilton will become the greatest driver of all time despite that if he was in any other machine, he’d be mediocre at best.

F1 is dead. When there’s maybe 3 cars that can win at any given race, it’s not a real racing series anymore, it’s only a money game then.

>new regulations with absolutely 0 input from the teams.
>fuck off the thousands of sensors on the cars feeding GBs of data a minute back to the pits and fuck telemetry off too. Leave drivers completely alone on track to manage any issues Leave the radio in though, love the bitching certain drivers do when battling another car.

so let people race in the same or equal cars? maybe give a small time bonus to the team that had the winning car produced? just seems like a really imbalanced ‘sport’ akin to fucking horse racing at the tracks.

then watch F2, indycar or super formula

>Your teammates aren’t using special shoes to give them hyper bounce
No, but they may use better doping
see Dr Fuentes

Compare the winner of one team vs the next closest person from another team

Ferrari "dominance"
Loses by 30 points
Wins by 10 points
Wins by 60 points
Wins by 90 points
Wins by 3 points
Wins by 60 points
Loses by 60 points

Merc dominance
Loses by 150 points
Wins by 150 points
Wins by 110 points
Wins by 130 points
Wins by 50 points
Wins by 80 points
Going to win this year too

Merc is already longer in dominance as well as with a bigger gap to the next best

Embarrassing car baby. It's pathetic how Mercedes paired Hamilton with a bootlicker like Bottas, who will put his head down whenever the team tells him to let Hamilton win. Now imagine if Verstappen were with Mercedes, Hamilton wouldn't stand a chance

Ferrari were nowhere near dominant as Mercedes are.
Mercedes least dominant years 2017-2018 are equivalent to 2001. 2014-16 and 2019 are 2002/2004 tier dominance.
They have not had a close championship battle like in 2003.

They changed the point system a few times since then so you cant compare those.

Like when he equaled Alonso in his debut season

Lewis Hamilton is the greatest ever F1 driver.
He would demolish prime Schumacher, who had months of testing each season and never had a decent teammate (apart from Rosberg who easily bettered him)

How to fix F1
>reduce maximum vehicle length to 4500 mm (or at least under 5000mm)
>reduce the vehicle width down to 1850 mm
Trim down these currently obese cars
>All three dry tire compounds have to be used in a dry race
>Remove regulation that you have to use tire you qualified on if you reached Q3.
Force teams to do more then 1 stop. Also potential varying strategies instead of the 1 stop of Soft --> Medium/Hard that we have now.
Q3 tire rule is a holdover from the days of refueling and has been left in for no reason. It doesn't punish the top 10 qualifiers and limits strategy as all the top 10 (and top 6 cars definitely) usually start on the same tire
>open up engine regulations, allow use of engines derived from road cars to be used by privateers.
These current power units are ridiculously expensive. As far as I am concerned, engine regulations should be free for all with the only requirement being it should be petrol powered.
>separate car weight into chassis weight and power unit weight, the same how drivers had their weight separated this year to stop tall drivers starving themselves to compete with manlets and teenagers.
>Chassis weight minimum is 600kg.
This will allow lighter conventional engines compete with obese hybrids (V10s weighed ~90kg, V6TH weigh 145kg).
>Change front wing to be a continuous 2 element wing.
Get rid of Y250 vortex fuckery that ruins the airflow completely behind.

i never understood f1, how can it be a fair sport if some people have better cars than others? everyone should have the exact same car and then it might be interesting

it's an engineering competition more than a driving competition
unfortunately the engineering is boring as shit now
>we added two tiny wings to the front wing, this truly is the peak of mechanical engineering

Ok same order but different measure.
3 wins difference
1 win
6 wins
9 wins
0.3 wins
6 wins
6 wins

6 wins
6 wins
4.4 wins
5.2 wins
2 wins
3.2 wins

One is consistently dominant, the other ebs and flows. If it weren't for Rosberg, there wouldn't have been a close season ever since Merc came into power.

Go watch F2 or any of the other spec series that are plentiful out there.
F1 has always been an engineering discipline, problem has been the FIA has been banning any major engineering breakthroughs so now all the teams do is shitty little winglets that have no real effect with very little track testing nowadays and the FIA wonder why a can stay dominant for 6 years now.

>I never understood football. How can it be fair when some Arab sugar daddy can inject billions into Man City to attract the best players with massive wages? There should be a wage cap so everybody has a chance to win the League.
No different than motor racing. The richest teams can afford the best cars and engineering teams so keep winning. It's worse in F1 because Ferrari and Mercedes get a disproportionately high slice of prize money so they can't be touched and the little teams will never get anywhere near their level.

And the most dominant car, the 1988 McLaren, it had 2 of the most charismatic drivers in it.
Hamilton, Rosberg and Bottass definitely have personalities as flat as Paul Ricard.

Most sports are the same. It's doesn't work in F1 because the richest team always wins, but at least in the Premier League it's entertaining to see the richest club (Man City) lose against the middle and bottom of the table occasionally

This is probably the real problem. The worst part is when he is genuine people tear him to shreds like when he posted a video of him playing around with his nephew on Christmas

Hamilton vs Rosberg was bearable because they hated each others guts and Rosberg was good at making Hamilton seethe.
Bottas is Barrichello reborn

It was a problem, I stopped watching because of that bullshit. F1 nowadays is a husk of what it once was. You dont even have fatal accidents anymore.

In football having the "best" players isnt as decisive as having the best car in F1.

Faggots who know nothing about f1

It's not stock car racing it is formula racing and every team gets to build their car within the rules. It's not cool to call out unfair just because one team is better, or best. Enforced parity is anathema to the ethos of formula 1 which is, or was traditionally, more about research and development to achieve an edge.

If you don't like it that's fine but please understand what it is and what it is not before you decide that it needs to change to suit your preferences, which you may or may not be aware that you possess.

That's all well and good, but the regulations are so tightly written these days that it might as well be a stock series. The amount of money, research and development necessary to find that edge to beat Mercedes (by the rules that Mercedes basically wrote) is available to only one team, Ferrari, who are incompetent.

F2 and F3 are better because they have the same car

moar gimi

completely this. regulations tend to just leave no leeway for smaller entities to find an advantage. this is why industry leaders in anything tend to be behind the scenes advocating for them

Barring the occasional upset, usually a cup tie, yes it does. Just because Man City might lose one game a season to Crystal Palace or some other poor team doesn't stop them storming to the title every year.

Formula 1 being elitist. It's not a stock series, and it's not a parity formula.
Just go watch Aussie Supercars, that's basically what you guys are asking for.

How long til Merc overtakes Ferrari on every statistical category? Their win-lost ratio is remarkable

-MSC and Lew Lew are car babies

-Young drivers are scared.

You see Gasly complaining his Honda RB has too torquey and rear suspension is too lively. He acting like this high down force ultra safe F1 Era is scary.

If there was higher bhp cars, refueling, there would be more unpredictable racing

I know F1 is built on innovation not parity. My point is that the current rules are so tightly written they don't allow for innovation anymore.

No one is going to come up with today's equivalent of traction control or active suspension in the 80's and 90's because that kind of creativity is not allowed.
The best a team can do is make small aerodynamic and chassis changes, which come at incredible cost in relation to their performance gains; and none of which will ever overcome Mercedes' baked-in advantage of having the only MGU-H that actually works reliably.

To make matters worse, the distribution of prize money is so uneven that for the non-factory teams, there simply is not enough money available to innovate or even compete.
Do you think that McLaren and Williams, who have dozens of championships between them, just suddenly forgot how to build a car?

They should get back to 50s/60s safety
It was the best era

Formula 1 is so frustrating because it's either absolutely edge of your seat good or utterly, utterly shit. No in-between. Last time we actually had a competitive intra-team battle was 2012 for fuck's sake. Last year could have been great but Ferrari are such fucking choke artists.

>Last year could have been great but Ferrari are such fucking choke artists.
This. The sadder state of affairs is not MWL, but the fact that we're relying on Ferrari to make the series entertaining.

Part of me wonders how anyone can still get behind this sport when it's so uncompetitive

Honestly, I think it's habit and tradition. I know I only watch because I've always watched. It's the "pinnacle of motorsport" or something, after all.
I can easily imagine that anyone else getting into the sport in the last five years or so would think it's pretty ridiculous that only one team is allowed to win the championship.

Latter half of the 00s from 2006-2010 were great.
2011-now with the exception of 2012 were shit.

At least Schumi had to fight Häkkinen. Is there anyone who can really challenge Hamilton?

>this is what needs to be done
>it'll never get done
>tfw

Hamilton is by far the best F1 driver ever, Senna and Schumacher are below Hamilton. It just comes down racism people can't handle that Hamilton shots all over the other drivers past and present

>Is there anyone who can really challenge Hamilton?
Talent-wise, there are plenty that can challenge Hamilton. (Remember, Hamilton had all he wanted from fucking Nico Rosberg).

But challenge Hamilton-in-the-Mercedes? No. Bottas is a "team player" meaning someone talked to him and told him he's not allowed to challenge Hamilton. The best this season will offer viewers is to see if Mercedes won't do a clean sweep of the season.

I stopped watching because of Ferrari dominance. Haven't watched since however it also seems like nothings changed so thats probably for the best.

Hamilton winning is probably the only thing that keeps the F1 audience here. If it was Ferrari dominating every race being shown on pay tv then I imagine no one would bother with it

kek schumi would have destroyed rosberg cmon..

KERE killed F1

Verstappen or Ricciardo in a Mercedes would destroy Hamilton. Bottas has no personality and will always obey the team orders to let Hamilton win

>your car is your teammate
lmaoing @ this mental gymnastics by the coping F1 fag

Patriots routinely do more with less. They've drafted in the bottom of each round for the last 20 years. Your comment is retarded and you should cease commenting henceforth.

Now this is bait

F1 is literally primarily a team sport, then a drivers' sport. The drivers are only there to get the best out of the cars.

I'd even go so far as to say the drivers are simply the biological component of the race-car system.

If and when driverless car software matures, I imagine a couple of F1 team execs would think about getting rid of the driver altogether.
But, of course, fans like cheering for drivers. They add an element of entertainment, but they don't actually do anything to make the car faster than it is.

Bring back Nico "Living rent free in Hamilton's head" Rosberg

Attached: hamilton BTFO.jpg (1920x1280, 356K)

Boring sport.

>Senna and Schumacher are below Hamilton

Attached: 2bd.jpg (233x233, 57K)

Hamilton has been driving in F1 since 2007. Liberty didn't buy F1 till 2016. Dumb frog.

verstappen is easily the closest thing in terms of talent and ability for sure and genuinely the most exciting driver
leclerc is pretty good though, don't care for Ferrari but rate him highly
