People who absolutely, definitely should have won the Ballon D'or

People who absolutely, definitely should have won the Ballon D'or

I'll start. 2004 and 2006. End of 2005-06 to WC 2006 was one of the most kino performances ever and one of the last times the "best player in the world" contender was at the forefront of his club and national team's success (no Cristiano's pathetic stat and occasional tap ins and showing up full kit for the final ceremony JT style after doing fuck all all match, don't count)

Deco should have won in 2004, Maharapathatabaaratha D'Souza

There's an argument to be made for 2003 and 2005 as well but at least the other guys had SOME justification. I love Sheva, and Cannavaro was world class in the WC but Titi was absolutely robbed both times

Iniesta 2010

B Silva
>present

Oh come on, not that same tired crap. He redeemed himself at his prime in 2006. Winner away vs Real at Bernabau (first English team to win there) in R16, scored vs star studded CL favourites Juve to knock them out in QF, outshone Ronaldinho in the final and for 80 minutes 10 men Arsenal went toe to toe with the best team in Europe (undefeated in CL that season, the first team since United '99). Knocked out Brazil in WC QF, played great whole tournament

Yes he choked on the big occasions at times but the ones who won in 2004 and 2006 were at least as guilty of doing so, and Henry was simply playing at a higher level than them throughout the season

Damn, to think Modric has won it and this guy, Xavi, Iniesta and Gerrard never did. UEFA really is a joke.

Deco played well but like Sneijder in 2010,another Mourinho team, he was effective rather than excellent and merely ok in Euro 2004. His first season at Barca was brilliant though, but overall the brilliance of Henry and Ronaldinho was greater that season, if not more "effective". Yet Henry still went undefeated in the league, an astounding achievement in itself

Sneijder for 2010 surely. Since neither were Messi's equal in terms of individual brilliance but sneijder had the overall greater impact for his teams, even putting Robben through one on one twice in the final

Baggio 95

He was displaced by Del Piero at Juventus no? Maybe '94? He was glorious at the WC

yeah instead goes to Nedved

that was his peak and most were legit contenders unlike the domination of Tsu and Messi after the mid 2000s

Actually Shevchenko won in 2004, Nedved in 2003. Nedved's was at least justified- he was the best player in the best team in Europe who won the league and then lost the CL final on penalties only because Nedved was suspended after playing his heart out dominating the Galacticos into submission and turning Zidane into a side show.

2004 by contrast was pretty ordinary by Sheva's standards, sure they won the league but he didn't massively outscore everyone else like Titi in England and more importantly Arsenal were undefeated. Even setting aside the huge choke vs Deportivo, Sheva simply had personally better years in '99-01 and again 2005-06.

Drogba 2012
Iniesta 2010

Agreed Sheva winning it was BS
Not sure if Henry deserved it the most, but likely yes

>2006
>massively chokes in the CL final and WC final
>deserves a ballon d'or

already told you winning against monaco in the CL is worthy of note and losing to greece at home in the euro final prevents you from claiming any individual trophies

>Xavi
>Gerrard

2001

>drogba 2012
He played like 4-5 games though, Messi that year scored like 100 goals

modric plays in a weak of dabbers and statpadders.
>Iniesta
maybe he was robbed in 2010, but even then, messi has been objectively the best player since 2008
>xavi
i give him 2008, but cristiano has great year with manure; still messi was already the best fucking player.
>henry
he should have won it in 2004 after the invincible season, but nedved was playing his heart out with juve that year and sheva was scoring like a madman every match.

Actual expert here.

2000 Zidane
2001 Raul
2003 Henry
2004 Deco
2006 Henry
2010 Iniesta
2011 Xavi
2012 Xavi
2015 Iniesta

Messi 2018
Messi 2008

>almost everyone else needed solid international achievements to win (Ronaldo almost didnt win in 2013 if it wasnt for his Portugal streak and hattrick in WC playoffs)
>Messi got 3 just for statpadding against 10men Osasuna

in case you cuck didn't notice, top goalscorers of the CL won the ballon d'or except if messi or ronaldo won the CL

Redpill me on pic related, did he really stand out that much that he won BdO as a defender in 2006?

Fuck, wrong pic

Best pone

Yes, he was incredible during the WC.

learn2english Mahamadou *clicking noises* Diarra

Henry is fucking useless in 2006 finals he played

Sneijder for 2010 is a meme. Iniesta was as good as Messi at club level and was the best player of the World Cup winning team. He deserved to win. Sneijder wasn't even as good as Xavi.
