If I said Bjork is the greatest female musician of all times, I'd be giving all of her producers' and collaborators' merits to her, solely because she's the one singing. A lot of female musicians don't write what they do. The greatest is arguably Fiona Apple, but I still think Carpenter is "the best" based on her drum ability and on her vocal talent

Bjork is an okay songwriter and arranger (apparently she’s going to tour with an orchestra that will only play the arrangements written by her, so she’s self-conscious about this shit) and is obviously involved with the production, but yes, she had way too collaborators, co-producers, co-writers etc. Albums like Homogenic would simply not exist without Mark Bell. Vespertine is full of samples and instrumentals that were not even done by her at all. But she’s still good, just too dependent on other artists whose merits are unfortunately forgotten by critics who act like she is some sort of genius.

I think people like Kate Bush, Joni Mitchell and Joanna Newsom are great examples of females who did all the writing on their own and thus deserve all the praise they get and a lot more, because what makes them brilliant isn’t only the production, but the songwriting itself. And also Kate Bush was the sole songwriter and producer of all her albums starting with The Dreaming. I think Kate is a genius, and so is Joanna and Joni.

As far as co-writers and collaborators go, their roles are fairly minor in the scheme of things (Sjón helping her be more articulate in her lyrics, various producers and arrangers helping her with interesting timbres and samples.) when she's writing songs of such high quality.
