Technical skill doesn’t dictate wether a composition is good or not. Even those with a rudimentary understanding of music theory can make functional compositions that are very nice and pleasant to listen to. What makes music good is the pushing of boundaries and the discovery of whole new styles. Most music produced now is a rehashing of previous genres and styles with the technical skill of the artist amped up. Most music now feels dead and boring due to not only this, but also due to the digitization of the recording process. Something about records, of any genre, recorded with analog equipment seem to have more life in them. It may just be my boomer inclination to like older music, but I can’t explain it anyways.

Drake is 100x better than most of the shit out these days: Pink, Arianna Grande, Lil Yachty, Ed Sheeran, David Guetta, BTS, Beyonce, fucking mumble rappers...
