This. For all intents and purposes, women's soccer is only around 30 years old (the Women's World Cup started in 1991, the Frauenbundesliga started in 1990, etc.)
The women's game has been developing by leaps and bounds both in terms of training and tactics. As more women are able to play as full-time professionals, fitness and skills are improving. Clubs like Barcelona, Juventus, and Bayern are starting to invest in their women's teams.

If you watch men's soccer from the 1990s, it looks tactically primitive by today's standards too. Soccer from the 1960's is nigh-unwatchable.
